  • CWS Shortstop #29

Paul DeJong is not in the starting lineup for the first game of a doubleheader against the Nationals on Tuesday.
DeJong has swung the bat well thus far in May with a .955 OPS and three homers. He’ll get the first game off before likely returning to the lineup for the second contest of the twin billing. Braden Shewmake is playing shortstop in his absence.
  • DET Right Fielder #30

Kerry Carpenter has been scratched from Wednesday’s lineup with right hamstring tightness.
Hamstring issues are never what fantasy managers want to hear, especially since Carpenter has dealt with them in the past. The hope is that his absence is merely for precautionary reasons to prevent the issue from becoming a more serious matter. There should be some clarity on his status following Wednesday’s showdown in Chicago at Rate Field. Stay tuned.
Cowser, Mayo hit ground running with Orioles
Colton Coswer and Coby Mayo are recent callups for the Orioles who could make waves if early returns are any indication.
  • CLE Relief Pitcher #39
Ben Lively underwent Tommy John surgery with a right flexor tendon repair on Wednesday and is expected to miss 12-14 months.
Lively won’t potentially return to Cleveland’s rotation until the second half of next season and there’s a chance he won’t make it back until the 2027 campaign. He would be 35 years old at that point. He suffered the right elbow injury back on May 12 and was transferred to the 60-day injured list last week.
  • FA 2nd Baseman #46
Pirates INF/OF Nick Solak has elected free agency.
Solak will search for a new opportunity on the open market instead of accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Indianapolis. The versatile 30-year-old former second-round pick has achieved journeyman status in recent years. His stint with the Pirates lasted just four games where he went 1-for-11 at the plate.
  • HOU Center Fielder #4
Pedro León (knee) has been pulled off a minor league rehab assignment.
León re-aggravated his left knee sprain during his recent minor league rehab assignment and is likely going to be shut down for a while. The 27-year-old outfielder is likely ticketed for Triple-A Sugar Land once he’s finally healthy.
  • HOU Starting Pitcher #68
J.P. France (shoulder) will face hitters on Friday in a live batting practice session.
France has been on the shelf since the end of spring training recovering from last July’s surgery to repair a capsule tear in his right shoulder. The 30-year-old righty figures to rejoin Houston’s rotation at some point in the second half, most likely after next month’s All-Star break following a series of minor league rehab starts to build up his pitch count and stamina.
  • BOS Starting Pitcher #50
Kutter Crawford (knee) has been diagnosed with right wrist inflammation.
Crawford was pulled off a minor league rehab assignment earlier this week to undergo further testing, which didn’t reveal any structural issues. It doesn’t sound like a massive concern, but the Red Sox are likely going to wait until the inflammation subsides before letting him pitch in minor league contests. The 29-year-old righty has been working his way back from a knee issue that bothered him down the stretch last year.
  • STL Starting Pitcher #39
Wednesday’s game between the Royals and Cardinals has been postponed due to inclement weather.
Only Mother Nature can keep rookie sensation Jac Caglianone from stepping onto a big-league diamond anymore. Both teams were going to have to endure several hours of waiting out rain showers before an extremely late start, so they’ve decided instead to play a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon. Wednesday’s original starting pitchers— Noah Cameron and Miles Mikolas — will presumably take the ball at some point during Thursday’s twin bill at Busch Stadium.
  • LAA Right Fielder #12
Jorge Soler was removed from Wednesday’s series finale against the Red Sox with groin tightness.
Angels manager Ron Washington told reporters afterwards that they believe they caught the issue early before it became worse. He also expressed optimism that Soler will be ready for Friday’s series opener against Seattle. The 33-year-old slugger should benefit from some extra rest during Thursday’s off day and could potentially be ready to return later this week.
  • PHI Starting Pitcher #27
Aaron Nola (ankle) has been shut down from throwing temporarily due to right side soreness.
Nola’s upcoming live batting practice session, which was set for Thursday at the Rogers Centre, has been scrapped for precautionary reasons. Phillies manager Rob Thomson classified the side soreness as “very mild” in nature, but the club can’t really afford to take any chances and risk a full-blown oblique strain. The 32-year-old veteran righty should resume throwing in some capacity later this week. The setback pushes his return back even further, likely until at least late June.
  • ATH Shortstop #10
Athletics recalled INF Max Muncy from Triple-A Las Vegas.
We’ve achieved maximum Muncy status for the second time this season with both infielders named Max Muncy — born exactly 12 years apart and completely unrelated — back in the big leagues. The 22-year-old rookie returns to the majors ahead of Wednesday’s game against the Twins after hitting .176 (12-for-68) with one homer and four RBI in his first taste of the show before being shipped back to the minors in late April.
