  • ARI Third Baseman #28
Eugenio Suárez went 2-for-3 with a homer and a stolen base on Wednesday night, leading the Diamondbacks to a 4-3 victory over the Reds in Cincinnati.
The 32-year-old slugger was hit by a pitch to start the fourth inning, then stole his first base of the season, but the Diamondbacks couldn’t cash him in. He then added a valuable insurance run with a two-out, 390-foot (104.4) solo shot off of Lucas Sims that extended the Diamondbacks’ lead to 4-2 — and proved to be the difference in the ballgame. With his two-hit attack, Suárez is now hitting .226/.295/.346 with three long balls and 20 RBI on the season.
  • SD Shortstop #2
Xander Bogaerts (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment on Thursday with Triple-A El Paso.
The veteran shortstop has been sidelined since May 20th with a fractured left shoulder. The team originally claimed his absence would be two months, which would be almost exactly after the All-Star break. Considering Bogaerts will need a few rehab appearances to get his timing back, the Padres could wait until after the break to call him up, but there’s a chance we’d see him at the end of next week if all goes well. The 31-year-old has not been great this season even when healthy, hitting .219/.265/.316 in 47 games with four home runs and four steals. It’s fair to wonder how often Bogaerts will run when he comes back since head-first slides into second base could risk aggravating the shoulder injury. Given his modest power output, if his stolen base totals take a meaningful hit, he would likely be a middle infield option for deeper leagues but not a starting shortstop in shallower formats.
  • SEA Catcher #18
Mitch Garver (wrist) is back in the lineup for Thursday’s game against the Orioles.
Garver is back at designated hitter for Thursday’s game following a brief two-game absence due to a right wrist contusion.
  • LAA Shortstop #2
Luis Rengifo is out of the lineup for Thursday’s game against the Athletics with right wrist soreness.
X-rays came back negative for any fractures after Rengifo left Wednesday’s game against the Athletics with right hand soreness following a ninth-inning swing. However, he’s slated to undergo an MRI on Friday in Chicago to determine the extent of the injury, specifically whether he’s dealing with any structural damage. There should be an update on his status in the coming days, but fantasy managers shouldn’t expect him back until the weekend, even if he checks out completely fine.
  • TOR Shortstop #11
Bo Bichette was scratched from Thursday’s lineup due to a right forearm contusion.
It’ll be Leo Jimenez making his big-league debut at shortstop on Thursday against the Astros in his absence. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #22
Bryan Woo (hamstring) will make a rehab start for High-A Everett this weekend.
Woo has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since June 25th and has also battled an elbow injury earlier in the season. There’s no word yet on how many rehab starts Woo would need, but it doesn’t figure to be more than one or two.
  • COL Third Baseman #44
Rockies sent INF Elehuris Montero outright to Triple-A Albuquerque.
Montero was designated for assignment last weekend after hitting .205 with a .571 OPS so far this season. With nobody claiming him on waivers, he will return to Triple-A where he hit .359 in 35 games last year with 15 home runs and 48 RBI. He may simply be a good Triple-A hitter who never quite finds his footing at the big league level.
  • WAS First Baseman #45
Nationals optioned 1B Joey Meneses to Triple-A Rochester.
Menses is hitting .235 on the season with three home runs and a 63/21 K/BB ratio in 75 games. He is also coming off a month of June in which he hit just .198; however, he was 4-for-12 in his first three games in July. No corresponding move has been announced and Joey Gallo has yet to start a rehab assignment, so the Nationals could opt to use Jesse Winker at first base in the near future.
  • HOU Left Fielder #30
According to the Houston Chronicle, Kyle Tucker (shin) and Justin Verlander (neck) will both be out through the All-Star break.
Tucker’s long absence with a shin bruise will continue. It’s fair to wonder if there’s something more going on here, but Tucker will remain out for at least another two weeks through the All-Star game on July 16th. Both Astros fans and fantasy managers hope that will be enough time to get Tucker back on the field on July 19th.
  • HOU Starting Pitcher #39
According to the Houston Chronicle, Jake Bloss (shoulder) will make a rehab start on Saturday for Triple-A Sugar Land.
Bloss injured his shoulder during his MLB debut back in June and was subsequently put on the IL. He may not need more than one or two rehab appearances before the Astros consider giving him another shot at the rotation, but with Luis Garcia (elbow) also nearing his return, the Astros could opt to keep Bloss at Triple-A for the near future.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #81
According to Yankees manager Aaron Boone, Luis Gil’s recent struggles could be impacted by an inconsistent release point.
Boone said that the Yankees have noticed that Gil’s recent point has been inconsistent of late. That could be tied to fatigue since he’s pitching more innings than he ever has before or it could simply be a mechanical issue with an easy fix. The inconsistent release point could also be leading Gil to tip some of his pitches, which might provide more context to why the Orioles were able to pounce on his fastball so much in his recent start. It should also be noted that Gil is making many non-competitive pitches and leaving pitches over the heart of the plate, so the release point isn’t the only issue to be fixed, but it might be one that can be addressed soon.
