  • TB Relief Pitcher #38
Rays placed LHP Colin Poche on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to April 24, with mid-back tightness.
It’s not yet clear how long the 30-year-old southpaw may be sidelined for. Manny Rodriguez was recalled from Triple-A Durham in a corresponding move to take his place in the Rays’ bullpen. Poche’s absence could lead to additional save chances for Jason Adam and Garrett Cleavinger while Pete Fairbanks is also shelved.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #96
Dodgers recalled RHP Landon Knack from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Knack will make his first MLB start in three weeks tonight against the Guardians. He has a 3.00 ERA in eight starts and two relief appearances for the Dodgers this season.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #70
Dodgers recalled LHP Justin Wrobleski from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Wrobleski was sent down after giving up 10 runs in his start Sunday, but Gavin Stone’s injury has him back with the Dodgers, probably to start Saturday. He has a 6.82 ERA and a 20/11 K/BB ratio in 30 1/3 innings over six starts this season.
  • LAD Relief Pitcher #90
Dodgers optioned RHP Michael Petersen to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Petersen returns to the minors after giving up three runs in an inning last night. He has a 6.43 ERA in 11 appearances this season, though that comes with a 3-0 record.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #35
Dodgers placed RHP Gavin Stone on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation.
Dreadful. Stone had been slated to start Saturday’s game. No replacement was immediately named, but Justin Wrobleski was recalled and could be the choice. Stone is 11-5 with a 3.53 ERA in 25 starts this season. He leads the Dodgers in both wins and innings (140 1/3).
  • TOR Relief Pitcher #68
The Blue Jays have ruled Jordan Romano out for the rest of the season following August surgery to address an elbow impingement.
With the Blue Jays out of the postseason mix, any urgency for Romano to pull off a late September return has dissipated. Chad Green will likely finish out the year as Toronto’s closer. Romano, who saved 36 games in both 2022 and ’23, finishes this year with a 6.59 ERA and eight saves in 15 appearances.
  • OAK Shortstop #10
Nick Allen is out of the A’s lineup for an eighth straight game Friday against the Tigers.
Allen very much earned another chance with the A’s by hitting .345/.431/.397 in 81 games in Triple-A, but it’s incredible that the team decided to give it to him one day after activating Jacob Wilson from the injured list. Allen went 1-for-4 in his second day back in the majors on Aug. 29, and he’s totaled one at-bat since. Max Schuemann has been slumping badly for over a month now (.137/.239/.177 in his last 34 games), so maybe Allen could start over him every once in a while.
  • TB Second Baseman #8
Brandon Lowe is out of the Rays lineup but available off the bench Friday because of ligament inflammation in one of his fingers.
It sounds like it’s something that’s been bothering Lowe for a little while and that he’s going to have to manage the rest of the way. If you picked him up during his surge in July and the first half of August, it’s time to drop him now. Jonathan Aranda should get some extra playing time with Lowe occasionally sitting.
  • CWS Catcher #26
Korey Lee was scratched from Friday’s starting lineup due to back tightness.
Chuckie Robinson is starting in his place tonight. Consider Lee to be day-to-day.
  • SF Starting Pitcher #45
Giants placed LHP Kyle Harrison on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to Sept. 4, with left shoulder inflammation.
Harrison goes on the IL after giving up 11 runs over 7 1/3 innings in his last two starts, leaving him 7-7 with a 4.56 ERA for the season. No word yet on if he’s done for the year. The Giants might consider promoting Carson Whisenhunt to take over for him in the rotation or they could just employ bullpen games until Robbie Ray is back.
  • SF Relief Pitcher #57
Giants recalled RHP Austin Warren from Triple-A Sacramento.
Warren made one appearance for the Giants last month, throwing two scoreless innings. He’ll be available in the pen tonight, and he could be a candidate to start a bullpen game Sunday.
