  • MIL Starting Pitcher #20

Brewers placed LHP Wade Miley on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to April 17, with left elbow inflammation.
Another pitcher down for the Brewers. Miley allowed four runs (three earned) in three innings against the Padres last time out while also getting hit in the knee by a 108 mph comebacker. However, it’s the elbow that’s ailing him. We should know more specifics in the coming days. Tobias Myers is on his way up from Triple-A.
  • CHC Relief Pitcher #57

Cubs acquired RHP Ryan Brasier and cash from the Dodgers for a player to be named later or cash.
Brasier heads to the Windy City after being jettisoned last week from the Dodgers’ 40-man roster following the addition of veteran closer Kirby Yates. The 37-year-old hurler was a key component of Los Angeles’ relief corps during their World Series title run last year after posting a serviceable 3.54 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 25/5 K/BB ratio across 28 innings (29 appearances) during the regular season. He’ll most likely occupy a setup role for Chicago alongside Porter Hodge behind closer Ryan Pressly.
  • CHC Relief Pitcher #58
Cubs designated LHP Rob Zastryzny for assignment.
Zastryzny was effective last year for the Brewers in a relatively small sample, compiling a sparkling 1.17 ERA, 0.65 WHIP and 5/1 K/BB ratio across 7 2/3 innings (nine appearances, three starts). The 32-year-old southpaw was claimed off waivers by the Cubs back in November but loses his roster spot following the arrival of veteran reliever Ryan Brasier. He should garner some interest on waivers as extra left-handed relief depth.
  • LAA Second Baseman #45
Angels signed INF Yolmer Sánchez to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Sánchez heads to spring training with Los Angeles attempting to latch on in a bench role. The 32-year-old infielder hasn’t appeared in the big leagues since the 2022 season when he got into 17 contests between the Red Sox and Mets. He spent all of last year at Triple-A Syracuse in New York’s system, batting .226/.346/.393 with nine homers and nine steals in 399 plate appearances over 111 games.
  • MIA Catcher #19
Marlins signed C Rob Brantly to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Brantly broke into the majors with the Marlins back in 2012 and got into 98 contests over a two-year span. The 35-year-old journeyman got into three games last year with the Rays. He’s merely emergency organizational depth for Miami at this stage of his career.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #31
Blue Jays signed RHP Max Scherzer to a one-year, $15.5 million contract.
The deal is now official. Scherzer heads north of the border for his age-40 season following an injury-marred campaign last year where he posted a serviceable 3.95 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 40/10 K/BB ratio across 43 1/3 innings (nine starts). It’s unclear how much he has left in the tank from a physical standpoint at this advanced stage of his legendary career, but he’s still capable of making an impact for fantasy managers as a viable streaming option, especially in deeper mixed leagues, when healthy. He’s a late-round lottery ticket this spring in all fantasy drafts due to his omnipresent durability concerns.
  • TOR Relief Pitcher #70
Blue Jays designated RHP Michael Petersen for assignment.
Petersen loses his spot on Toronto’s 40-man roster to accommodate the arrival of future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer. The 30-year-old reliever was claimed off waivers back in November from Miami after making 16 appearances last season between the Marlins and Dodgers.
  • ARI Center Fielder #15
Diamondbacks re-signed OF Randal Grichuk to a one-year, $5 million contract with a $5 million mutual option for 2026.
The deal is official. MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reports the agreement also includes $500,000 in performance-based incentives and a $3 million buyout. At 33-years-old, Grichuk is entering the metaphorical back-nine of his lengthy career but still offers some appeal for Arizona in a complementary role as a lefty-mashing corner outfielder to spell starters Corbin Carroll, Jake McCarthy and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. He’ll also probably split time at DH with Pavin Smith. He blasted 12 homers in 279 plate appearances last year in addition to posting a robust .913 OPS with six round-trippers off southpaws. He can be safely ignored for fantasy purposes outside of extremely deep mixed leagues.
Alex Bregman and Pete Alonso are the top free agents remaining in Major League Baseball.
  • STL Third Baseman #28
MLB Network’s Jon Morosi reports the Red Sox and Cardinals had recent communication regarding Nolan Arenado.
The standoff continues. The looming resolution to the Alex Bregman sweepstakes, which seems to be down to the Astros, Tigers and Red Sox at this juncture, should provide some additional clarity on Arenado’s potential trade destinations. The 33-year-old perennial Gold Glove Award candidate has been linked to the Boston for months, but there doesn’t appear to be a ton of urgency from either side to get a deal across the finish line. With spring training rapidly approaching it seems possible Arenado will head to camp with St. Louis as the two sides continue negotiations.
  • TEX Shortstop #16
Rangers signed SS Nick Ahmed to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Ahmed seems like a perfect fit for the Rangers as an emergency bench option at the outset of next season with superstar shortstop Corey Seager coming off sports hernia surgery. The 34-year-old veteran remains a certifiable defensive wizard at this stage of his career, but offers next to nothing from an offensive standpoint after slashing just .232/.278/.303 with one homer and one steal in 172 plate appearances over 52 contests last year between the Padres and Dodgers.
  • BAL Center Fielder #18
Orioles signed OF Ramón Laureano to a one-year, $4 million contract with a $6.5 million club option for 2026.
The deal is now official. Laureano heads to Baltimore as extra outfield depth behind starters Cedric Mullins, Tyler O’Neill and Colton Cowser. The 30-year-old is capable of filling in at all three spots, which makes him an invaluable bench option over someone like former top prospect Heston Kjerstad, who offers limited defensive appeal. He was non-tendered by the Braves earlier this offseason after batting .259/.311/.437 with 11 homers and eight steals across 309 plate appearances last season between the Braves and Guardians. He’s a non-factor for fantasy purposes at this stage of his career, but he’s landed in an ideal spot with hitter-friendly Camden Yards giving him a shot at rebuilding his long-term value as a lefty-mashing platoon specialist.
