Jonathan Loáisiga will undergo season-ending right elbow surgery.
Loáisiga landed on the 60-day injured list earlier this week with a right flexor strain and will miss the remainder of the 2024 season. The 29-year-old won’t undergo a full Tommy John surgery, but has been diagnosed with a torn UCL in his right elbow. He’s expected to miss roughly 10-12 months following the procedure.

Connor Norby is out of the lineup for the Marlins on Friday with left hand soreness.
Norby injured the hand in his final plate appearance of the night during Friday’s game. Consider the 25-year-old day-to-day for now. Javier Sanoja will get the start at third with Norby out to begin the contest.
Players to watch in MLB All-Star Futures Game
James Schiano spotlights the rising stars to watch in this weekend's 2025 All-Star Futures Game in Atlanta.
  • CHC Starting Pitcher #16
Matthew Boyd shut out the Yankees for eight innings Saturday in the Cubs’ 5-2 victory.
Boyd was at just 85 pitches after eight, but either he or manager Craig Counsell decided it wasn’t worth him going for his second career shutout and third complete game. Boyd, who opted out of pitching in the All-Star Game, finishes the first half with scoreless starts in three of his last four outings. He has a 1.28 ERA in his last nine starts, and he was pretty good before that, too. He’s one of five major leaguers with 10 victories, and his 2.34 ERA is sixth in the league.
  • CHC Relief Pitcher #48
Daniel Palencia got two outs for his 11th save of the year Saturday against the Yankees.
Palencia was called on after Brad Keller gave up a two-run homer and then hit a batter in what had been a 5-0 game. He struck out Jazz Chisholm Jr. and got Trent Grisham to ground out to end the game.
  • CHC Catcher #15
Carson Kelly went 2-for-3 with a homer, two RBI and a walk Saturday versus the Yankees.
Kelly’s roller-coaster season has seen him hit .361/.500/.820 in his first 20 games and .156/.224/.211 in his subsequent 26. However, he’s bounced back nicely recently, batting .386/.461/.727 with three homers in his last 15 games. It all adds up to an .892 OPS, placing him third among catchers behind Cal Raleigh and Will Smith,
  • NYY Right Fielder #99
Aaron Judge had a two-run homer and doubled twice in Saturday’s loss to the Cubs.
Spoiling the shutout bid by taking Brad Keller deep in the ninth, Judge was the Yankees’ only offense today in the 5-2 loss. The one out he made was actually a 409-foot blast that would have been a homer in 24 ballparks. The actual homer was hit 388 feet to right. It was the 350th of his career, tying him with Chili Davis for 103rd place all-time. With two more, he’ll move into the top 100.
  • STL Right Fielder #21
Lars Nootbaar was removed from Saturday’s game against Atlanta with left side soreness.
Not great. Nootbaar has been battling through an intercostal/ribs issue for the past few weeks. The 27-year-old outfielder, who finished Saturday’s contest 0-for-2 at the plate, will presumably undergo further evaluation and imaging to determine the severity of the issue. It’s possible he’ll wind up requiring a trip to the injured list. There should be an update on his status ahead of Sunday’s first-half finale.
  • MIA 2nd Baseman #1
Connor Norby is out of the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Orioles.
Nothing official from the team, but Norby appeared to be dealing with some left wrist or hand discomfort during his final plate appearance on Friday night. It doesn’t appear to be a significant concern since he’ll have the entire All-Star break to recover, but it’s a situation fantasy managers should monitor closely for the rest of the weekend.
  • HOU Shortstop #28
Brice Matthews is at second base and batting ninth on Saturday against the Rangers.
Matthews went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts on Friday in his major-league debut. The 23-year-old shortstop was Houston’s first-round pick in the 2023 MLB Draft and does offer some power/speed combo potential in deeper mixed leagues. He’s going to face an adjustment period as he acclimates to everyday life in the big leagues, but he’s going to get some runway with Jeremy Peña (rib) on the shelf in addition to injuries to Luis Guillorme (hamstring) and Brendan Rodgers (oblique).
  • SD Relief Pitcher #37
Padres recalled RHP Alek Jacob from Triple-A El Paso.
Jacob gets the call to rejoin San Diego’s relief mix ahead of Saturday evening’s contest against the Phillies. The 27-year-old righty posted an underwhelming 6.94 ERA across 23 1/3 innings (22 appearances) earlier this season in the big leagues.
  • SD Relief Pitcher #38
Padres optioned RHP Ryan Bergert to Triple-A El Paso.
Bergert struck out seven and allowed two runs over 4 2/3 innings on Friday against the Phillies in his return from the injured list. San Diego isn’t going to need a fifth start coming out of the All-Star break, so they’ll use his roster spot to fortify their bullpen mix.
