Infielder Josh Harrison has opted for free agency.
After being informed he wouldn’t be on the Reds’ Opening Day roster, Harrison decided he would rather test the waters in free agency than go to Cincinnati’s minor league system. The veteran was always a longshot to break the Reds’ crowded infield depth chart, and he hit just 5-for-20 this spring with two doubles and one steal. There’s a chance another team will value his defensive versatility and give him a shot.

    Diamondbacks released RHP Kendall Graveman.
Graveman was DFA’d on Monday after amassing a 7.13 ERA and a 9/12 K/BB in 17 2/3 innings out of the Arizona bullpen.
What's next for Alonso after making Mets history?
With Pete Alonso now alone atop the Mets' all-time home run leaderboard, Eric Samulski explores what could be next for the slugging first basemen and the only organization he's ever known.

Max Muncy was scratched from Wednesday’s lineup against the Angels.
No reason provided yet. Mookie Betts was set to have the night off, but he was added to the lineup as the shortstop and No. 2 hitter with Muncy out.
  • SD Center Fielder #5
Ramón Laureano finished 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and a walk as the Padres crushed the Giants 11-1 on Wednesday.
Laureano is hitting .333/.400/.600 with two homers in 12 games for his new team. The Padres did sit him in favor of Gavin Sheets on Monday, but that’s just not something they should really ever have much reason to do going forward.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #27
Nick Pivetta limited the Giants to one run in 6 2/3 innings for his 12th win Wednesday.
Pivetta allowed four hits, walked one and struck out five. He has given up one or no runs in 13 of his 24 starts this season, and he’ll get to face the Giants again on Tuesday.
  • SF Relief Pitcher #66
Kai-Wei Teng was charged with seven runs — six earned — in 1 2/3 innings Wednesday in a loss to the Padres.
With the game still scoreless, Teng caught a horrible break in the second inning, as what almost certainly would have been an inning-ending double play ball from Jake Cronenworth bounced off second base and into left field for a two-run single. Teng went on to give up a walk, a two-run single, a sac fly and an RBI double before being pulled. We doubt Teng would have had a particularly successful day even if not for the fluke hit, but he didn’t deserve to have things end this badly. He fell to 1-2 with a 9.90 ERA in three starts, and the Giants might send him down rather than let him face the Padres again next week.
  • SD Right Fielder #23
Fernando Tatis Jr. went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two walks Wednesday against the Giants.
Tatis only hit grounders today, but two of them plated three runs. He has nine hits and four walks in his last five games, pushing his OBP up to .370. That’s good for 10th in the National League.
  • SF Center Fielder #61
Drew Gilbert went 0-for-3 on Wednesday, leaving him 1-for-17 through six big-league games.
It’s still very early, but Gilbert has reached base only once and has yet to hit a ball harder than 99 mph. The Giants have little to lose by sticking with him, but they might want to send him back to Triple-A if remains overmatched.
  • ATL Right Fielder #13
Ronald Acuña Jr. should be ready to return from his calf strain within the next couple of days, manager Brian Snitker said.
Friday’s series opener in Cleveland might be the plan here. Eli White should head back to the bench when Acuña is activated.
  • ATL 3rd Baseman #27
Austin Riley is still dealing with soreness in the area around his abdominal strain and hasn’t ramped up workouts.
Riley is eligible to come off the injured list on Thursday, but it sounds like he’ll be out for at least another week. Nacho Alvarez Jr. has been filling in at third base.
  • ARI 2nd Baseman #4
Ketel Marte went 4-for-6 with a go-ahead three-run homer in the ninth inning Wednesday as the D-backs topped the Rangers 6-4.
The Diamondbacks were down by two with none on and two outs in the top of the ninth and roared back with four runs against Phil Maton to stun the reeling Rangers. Marte is batting .297/.398/.558 with 23 homers in 88 games this season. Injuries have prevented him from putting up truly incredible numbers, but even so, he’s probably been the National League’s second-best player since the beginning of 2024.
