  • FA Relief Pitcher #35
FanSided’s Robert Murray reports the Reds are signing free agent left-hander Justin Wilson to a one-year contract.
Wilson spent parts of two seasons with the Reds from 2021-22 and will return to Cincinnati just a few days after opting out of his minor league contract with the Dodgers. The 36-year-old lefty hasn’t pitched in the majors since the 2022 campaign due to injury. He’ll likely take the roster spot of lefty Alex Young (back) who is headed to the injured list.
  • SEA Center Fielder #44
Julio Rodríguez is batting seventh on Tuesday against the Orioles.
It’s the lowest Rodriguez has batted in the majors in quite some time as his frosty start to the 2024 campaign continues. The 23-year-old generational talent has really struggled to get going this season at the plate, batting .247/.297/.327 with seven homers and 17 steals across 360 plate appearances. He’s been ice-cold of late, hitting .069 (2-for-29) over his last seven games. It’s possible taking some pressure off him to produce in the heart of Seattle’s lineup will help him get back on track. We’ll see.
  • SEA Catcher #18
Mitch Garver (wrist) is absent from the lineup for Tuesday’s series opener against the Orioles.
Garver will take a seat for Tuesday’s series opener after suffering a right wrist contusion when he was hit by a pitch during Sunday’s game against the Twins. He’s day-to-day for now.
  • BAL First Baseman #6
Ryan Mountcastle (illness) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday’s series opener against the Mariners.
Mountcastle remains out of the lineup for the third straight contest due to an ongoing illness. The 27-year-old first baseman’s absence has led to some additional at-bats for Ryan O’Hearn and top prospect Heston Kjerstad in the meantime.
  • SF Starting Pitcher #45
Kyle Harrison (ankle) will throw a bullpen session on Tuesday.
Harrison isn’t expected to require a minor league rehab assignment before returning to San Francisco’s starting rotation mix after suffering a right ankle sprain back in mid-June. It sounds like he could be back prior to the All-Star break, but that isn’t a lock.
  • SF Starting Pitcher #23
Robbie Ray (elbow) will make a minor league rehab start on Thursday for Triple-A Sacramento.
Ray is progressing towards a midseason return to San Francisco’s starting rotation mix as he completes his rehabilitation from last year’s Tommy John surgery. The 32-year-old southpaw is still capable of missing bats at a high level and is worthy of a speculative stash for fantasy managers in deeper mixed leagues.
  • DET Shortstop #28
Javier Báez (back) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Tuesday with Triple-A Toledo.
Báez has been on the shelf since mid-June due to back inflammation and will likely need at least a handful of rehab contests to get back up to speed. It would be an understatement to say that his time in Detroit has been a colossal disappointment since signing a six-year, $140 million deal as a free agent back in 2022.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #12
Casey Mize (hamstring) will require a trip to the injured list.
Mize will officially land on the injured list at some point this week due to a left hamstring strain. No word yet on the severity of the issue, but the 27-year-old righty figures to be shelved until after the All-Star break.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #9
Jack Flaherty will not make his next scheduled start on Wednesday against the Twins due to an ongoing back issue.
Flaherty remained back in Los Angeles following last Thursday’s lackluster start against the Angels where he allowed five runs over 5 2/3 innings to receive a pain-reducing injection in his back. The 28-year-old righty, who has been excellent this season in his Detroit debut, is expected to take the ball next week against the Twins. It doesn’t sound like he’ll require a trip to the injured list, but back issues can be complicated matters and could certainly impact his on-field performance moving forward.
  • BAL Relief Pitcher #56
Orioles signed RHP Vinny Nittoli to a minor league contract.
The rambling man is on the move again. It didn’t take Nittoli long to find a new opportunity following an extremely brief stint last week with the Cubs that lasted roughly 24 hours. The 33-year-old righty looked sharp earlier this season in seven relief outings for the Athletics and figures to get a look in Baltimore in short order.
  • DET Left Fielder #8
Matt Vierling (foot) remains absent from the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Twins.
Vierling will get another day off to rest and recover after being scratched from Sunday’s series finale against the Angels due to left foot soreness. It’ll be Riley Greene patrolling center field in his absence with Akil Baddoo stepping into the lineup to cover left field.
