  • TEX Starting Pitcher #43
The Rangers optioned RHP Owen White to Triple-A Round Rock.
The 24-year-old played in three games this spring with the Rangers and posted a 9.00 ERA with six earned runs over six innings.
  • NYY Second Baseman #25
Gleyber Torres was pulled from Friday’s contest against the Blue Jays due to disciplinary reasons.
Yankees’ skipper Aaron Boone told Torres that he pulled him from the game due to his lack of hustle. Torres smacked a ball off the wall in left field in the second inning, but instead of hustling it out for a double, he stood in the box and watched what he assumed was a home run instead and wound up with a single. Then, perhaps in an effort to atone for his mistake, he tried to score from first on a double off the bat of Anthony Volpe and was cut down at the plate. We’ll see if he makes his way into Saturday’s lineup or not.
  • COL Right Fielder #19
Charlie Blackmon was removed from Friday night’s battle against the Padres after being hit in the face by an errant throw from Xander Bogaerts.
Ouch. The encouraging news is that Blackmon was able to walk off the field under his own power. He’ll likely have to pass through the concussion protocol though before he’s cleared to return to action. The Rockies should have more information on his status prior to Saturday’s ballgame.
  • LAA Shortstop #2
Luis Rengifo was pulled from Friday’s game against the Mets in the fifth inning due to renewed soreness in his wrist.
The 27-year-old infielder was pulled from Wednesday’s game and then sat out on Thursday after having a flare-up with his injured wrist. He thought he was good to go on Friday, but after going hitless in his first two at-bats on Friday he was pulled from the game. It’s possible that it will be a day-to-day situation once again, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see Rengifo land back on the injured list on Saturday.
  • TOR Shortstop #28
Ernie Clement went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBI, and a walk in an 8-5 win over the Yankees on Friday.
Clement put his Blue Jays first up 3-0 in the first inning with a two-run double and then 5-2 in the third a run-scoring hit. He’s found himself in the middle of more than a few rallies of late as he’s on a bit of a heater with hits in seven of his last eight games. He also has multiple hits in four of those eight and is becoming a strong yet sneaky source of both batting average and RBI.
  • TOR Relief Pitcher #57
Chad Green struck out the side in a perfect ninth inning to secure the save against the Yankees on Friday.
Green looked downright dominant against his former team, striking out both Juan Soto and Aaron Judge en route to his seventh save of the season. With the dust from the trade deadline settling, Green is seemingly locked in to closer duties for the Blue Jays.
  • NYY Shortstop #11
Anthony Volpe went 3-for-4 with a home run, double, run scored, and two RBI on Friday against the Blue Jays.
Down big early, Volpe helped the Yankees close the gap with a two-run homer in the fifth inning to cut the Blue Jays’ lead to just three. It wouldn’t be enough to spur a comeback, but Volpe is blazing hot right now. This was his first game with multiple extra-base hits since April 1st and he’s hit in seven straight games with four home runs in his last 10. That’s 40% of his homers all season.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #0
Marcus Stroman gave up eight hits and seven earned runs in just 2 2/3 innings on Friday against the Blue Jays. He struck out three and walked one in defeat.
Stroman had nothing working in this one. The Blue Jays put nearly everything in play and found hole after hole. More troubling, Stroman’s velocity was down about a tick across the board and his sinker and fastball just barely sat 90 MPH. Stroman has made a habit of falling apart in the second half for the last few years and there is some concern the shape of this season could match those of the past.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #34
Kevin Gausman allowed eight hits and five runs, four earned, across 4 2/3 innings on Friday against the Yankees. He struck out two and walked three in a disappointing no-decision.
It’s starting to feel like the Gausman we’d grown used to the last few seasons is truly gone. Ahead 7-2 in the third inning, he let the Yankees right back in this game with a fifth inning rally that knocked him out of this game just one out shy of qualifying for the win. His fastball is incredibly ordinary when it sits around 94 MPH and hitters don’t chase his splitter like they once did. With that and never truly developing a third pitch, this is who Gausman is now.
  • ATL Shortstop #11
Orlando Arcia went 2-for-3 with a homer, two RBI and a walk as the Braves topped the Marlins 5-3 on Friday.
After four months as one of the league’s worst hitters, Arcia has suddenly homered four times in six games, raising his OPS from .588 to .641. We still wouldn’t rush to pick him up in mixed leagues, but the Braves have to be pretty thrilled.
  • ATL Starting Pitcher #56
Spencer Schwellenbach was charged with three runs in seven innings Friday in a no-decision against the Marlins.
Schwellenbach struck out 10 for the second straight outing and went without a walk for the third straight outing. Still, the Marlins did enough against him in a couple of brief rallies to deny him a win. Schwellenbach’s ERA stands at 4.04 after 11 starts, but his 70/10 K/BB in 64 2/3 innings is truly impressive. He’s legit.
