  • BAL Right Fielder #23

Daniel Johnson finished 3-for-3 with a triple, a double and two runs scored as the Orioles bested a Tigers split-squad 5-2 on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old Johnson was once a fine prospect and logged major league time with Cleveland in 2020 and ’21, but after spending most of last year in Double-A with the Padres, he’s not much of a candidate to make the Orioles this spring. Sam Hilliard is the favorite to serve as the team’s fourth outfielder, and Jorge Mateo also figures to log some outfield time in addition to his infield duties.
  • BOS 2nd Baseman #23

Red Sox activated INF Romy Gonzalez from the 10-day injured list.
Gonzalez had just taken over as Boston’s primary first baseman when he got hurt last month, but he’ll probably take a backseat to Abraham Toro against righties for now and go back to getting most of his starts versus lefties. On the plus side, the Red Sox are facing lefties each of the next two days. Gonzalez is starting and batting fifth tonight. Toro is playing third base over Marcelo Mayer.
Alvarez shut down from swinging with hand fracture
The Astros have shut down slugger Yordan Alvarez from swinging, who is dealing with a hand fracture, and Eric Samulski shares why Houston's roster is now worth monitoring over the next few weeks.
  • BOS 3rd Baseman #40
Red Sox optioned INF/OF Nate Eaton to Triple-A Worcester.
Eaton didn’t play in his one day with the Red Sox, but at least he’s on the 40-man roster, making his situation better now than it was Saturday.
  • PHI Starting Pitcher #45
With his wife due to give birth any day now, Zach Wheeler won’t start for the Phillies until Friday at the earliest.
The Phillies will start Cristopher Sánchez, Mick Abel and Jesús Luzardo in the three-game series against the Jays that begins Tuesday. They can also move Ranger Suárez up to Friday if Wheeler needs to be pushed back one additional day.
  • FA Relief Pitcher #17
    Mariners released RHP Trevor Gott.
Gott underwent Tommy John surgery in March 2024 and was on the rehab trail, though the early results weren’t great; he had a 9.95 ERA in 6 1/3 innings for Triple-A Tacoma.
  • FA 1st Baseman #33
    Giants released 1B Jake Lamb.
We haven’t heard whether Lamb opted out of if the Giants decided themselves to move on. The 34-year-old veteran big leaguer was hitting .240/.352/.353 for Triple-A Sacramento. He last played in the majors in 2023, when he hit .216/.259/.353 in 54 plate appearances for the Angels.
  • FA 1st Baseman #22
    Yankees released 1B Dominic Smith.
With Ben Rice performing so well and Giancarlo Stanton coming back at some point, Smith figured to chance with the Yankees was forthcoming and opted out of his minor league deal. He was hitting .255/.333/.448 in 45 games for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
  • CWS Catcher #89
Catcher prospect Kyle Teel has recently been working out at first base while playing for Triple-A Charlotte.
He’s yet to get into a game at the position. Teel is good enough to stay behind the plate, but so is Edgar Quero, and the White Sox need to have room for both, if not this year, then at least by 2026. Teel is hitting .289/.394/.491 for Charlotte.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #51
Astros signed RHP Jordan Weems to a minor league contract.
Weems, 32, was released by the Braves last month after posting a 5.09 ERA in 17 2/3 innings of relief work for Triple-A Gwinnett. He has a 5.26 ERA in 140 relief appearances over five big-league seasons.
  • NYM Starting Pitcher #59
Sean Manaea (oblique) throws his last live batting practice on Monday.
The left-hander will now begin a lengthy rehab process to build up his pitch count before returning to the Mets rotation. Assuming his rehab assignment progresses normally, we could see Manaea back in the Mets rotation by the end of July.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #80
Emmet Sheehan (elbow) threw three scoreless innings for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday.
Sheehan also struck out five and didn’t walk anybody while throwing 27 of his 39 pitches for strikes. The 25-year-old is working his way back from last year’s Tommy John surgery and will need a few more starts before he becomes an option for the Dodgers’ rotation.
