Diamondbacks and RHP Ryan Thompson avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.35 million contract.
Thompson was a revelation for the World Series-bound Diamondbacks last year after being cut loose by the Rays, posting a nearly flawless 0.69 ERA, 0.54 WHIP and 9/1 K/BB ratio across 13 innings (13 appearances) to close out the 2023 campaign. The 31-year-old righty was arbitration-eligible this winter for the first time. He’ll be a free agent in 2027.

Diamondbacks optioned RHP J.P. Feyereisen to Triple-A Reno.
The 32-year-old right-hander made two appearances with the D’Backs, giving up two runs on three hits while striking out a pair in his two innings of work. He’ll continue to function as extra bullpen depth at the Triple-A level. Yilber Diaz was recalled from Triple-A Reno to take his place in the Diamondbacks’ bullpen.
Mangum's injury clouds fantasy outlook for 2025
Eric Samulski looks at the fantasy fallout of Tampa Bay Rays' outfielder Jake Mangum's move to 10-day IL, wondering if he will return at the same level and explaining why Christopher Morel is a solid pivot for now.

Ivan Herrera (knee) hopes to begin a minor league rehab assignment before the end of next week.
When the 24-year-old backstop initially suffered the bone bruise in his left knee, the expectation was that he would miss at least a month’s worth of action. We’re about three weeks out right now, which would seem to put him on track if he is indeed able to return to game action at some point next week. It’s unclear how many games he’ll need to get into before the Cardinals are ready to bring him back though. Those counting on Pedro Páges for everyday at-bats may soon need to look elsewhere.

Royals optioned LHP Evan Sisk to Triple-A Omaha.
The 28-year-old southpaw made two appearances during his time with the Royals, allowing two hits and a pair of walks over two scoreless innings. He’ll almost assuredly get another opportunity with the big league club before the summer is through. Jonathan Bowlan was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move on Friday.
  • KC Starting Pitcher #62
Royals recalled RHP Jonathan Bowlan from Triple-A Omaha.
Bowlan was already with the team, serving as the 27th man for Thursday’s twin bill against the Rockies, but he’ll stick around in the team’s bullpen with Evan Sisk getting optioned to Triple-A. The 28-year-old hurler has posted a 3.00 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and a 12/5 K/BB ratio across 12 frames at Omaha this season.

Dodgers claimed RHP Yoendrys Gómez off of waivers from the Yankees.
The 25-year-old hurler was designated for assignment by the Yankees earlier in the week after posting a 2.70 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and a troublesome 5/9 K/BB ratio over 10 innings in six appearances with the Yankees. He’s out of minor league options, so expect another move to be coming from the Dodgers before Friday night’s contest.
  • KC Catcher #13
Salvador Perez is absent from the Royals’ starting lineup for Friday night’s soiree against the Astros.
There haven’t been any rumblings of any sort of injury, so it sounds like it’s just a regular day of rest for the hard-hitting backstop. Freddy Fermin will start behind the plate and will bat eighth for the Royals against Astros’ right-hander Hayden Wesneski.
  • LAA Shortstop #19
Kyren Paris is not in the Angels’ starting lineup for Friday night’s battle against the Twins in Minneapolis.
The 23-year-old blasted five homers and swiped four bases within his first 30 plate appearances on the season, but since then he’s slashing a pitiful .111/.179/.139 with an 18/1 K/BB ratio over 40 plate appearances. A day off to clear his head will hopefully do him some good. Tim Anderson will start in his place at second base and bat ninth for the Halos against Twins’ right-hander Pablo Lopez.
  • STL Right Fielder #41
Alec Burleson is not in the Cardinals’ starting lineup for Friday evening’s tilt against the Brewers.
It looks to be just a routine night off for Burleson, though it’s odd that it would come after an off-day and while the Cardinals are facing a right-hander. Nolan Gorman will serve as the team’s designated hitter and will bat fifth against the Brewers on Friday night.
  • STL Left Fielder #33
Brendan Donovan (rib) returned to the Cardinals’ starting lineup for Friday’s series opener against the Brewers.
Donovan missed each of the team’s previous two games due to soreness in his ribs, but after an extra off day on Thursday he appears to be doing much better. The versatile 28-year-old is starting at second base and will bat third against Brewers’ right-hander Chad Patrick.
  • TOR Right Fielder #18
Alan Roden is not in the Blue Jays’ starting lineup for Friday night’s showdown against the Yankees in New York.
The 25-year-old rookie outfielder has really scuffled out of the gate, slashing just .203/.284/.297 with one homer, five RBI and a 15/5 K/BB ratio through his first 74 plate appearances. With Daulton Varsho (shoulder) likely to return any day now, it’s possible that Roden could wind up being the odd man out in the Blue Jays’ outfield and be sent back to Triple-A Buffalo for more seasoning.
