Former Yankees reliever Jimmy Cordero is signing with the Chiba Lotte Marines of Japan.
Cordero was suspended for the final three months of the MLB season for violating the league’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assaults and Child Abuse Policy, and he became a free agent after the Yankees removed him from their 40-man roster last month. It doesn’t seem very likely that he’ll ever pitch in MLB again.

Jackson Chourio homered twice and drove in five runs to power the Brewers past the Reds 8-2 on Sunday.
Chourio delivered a three-run homer off Sam Moll and a solo shot against Ian Gibaut. He also had a sac fly. It’d been something of a rocky start for the 21-year-old, mostly in the form of his 14 strikeouts in 41 plate appearances. However, his OPS is all of the way up to .880 now, and he has three homers and nine RBI in 10 games.
  • MIL Starting Pitcher #39
Chad Patrick pitched 5 1/3 innings of one-run ball Sunday in a victory over the Reds.
Patrick’s first two big-league starts have been big success, and he was rewarded with his first win today. The former Diamondbacks and A’s minor leaguer was added to the Brewers’ 40-man roster over the winter after going 14-1 with a 2.90 ERA in Triple-A last year. He’s a long shot to last as a starting pitcher in the majors, but the Brewers are loving his work as a stopgap. He’ll get the Diamondbacks next.

Carson Spiers surrendered four runs in 3 1/3 innings Sunday in a loss to the Brewers.
Spiers excelled in his 2025 debut against the Rangers last week, but he was hit hard today and it was mostly line drives. He could be sent down if the Reds opt to activate Andrew Abbott to start next weekend against the Pirates.
  • MIL Left Fielder #5
Garrett Mitchell went 0-for-3 with a walk as the Brewers’ cleanup man Sunday against the Reds.
No luck for Mitchell today. He did strike out once, but his two balls in play were a 111-mph lineout right at TJ Friedl in center and a 108-mph groundout. He’s a respectable 6-for-23 at the plate, but he’s yet to make a fantasy impact with no homers, no steals and one RBI. One would think better days are on the way, but it hurts that the Brewers dropped him in the order just before Opening Day. While he hit fourth today with William Contreras resting, he’s batted seventh and eighth the rest of the time.
  • CIN First Baseman #7
Spencer Steer hit his first homer and walked Sunday against the Brewers.
It’s good to see Steer finally on the board as he attempts to overcome his shoulder soreness. The homer off Chad Patrick was hit 103.7 mph, and while that’s not normally his peak, it’s three mph better than he managed to do on any of his previous 15 batted balls this year.
  • PIT Center Fielder #28
Tommy Pham delivered a walkoff hit in the bottom of the 11th to give the Pirates a 5-4 win over the Yankees on Sunday.
The Yankees had to bring everyone in after automatic runner Jack Suwinski stole third base with one out and the score tied in the 11th, but Pham hit his drive far enough that it probably didn’t matter. The 388-foot shot to left center off Devin Williams actually would have been a homer in 17 parks, Statcast says. Pham also had an RBI on a sac fly today. They were his first runs driven in of the year.
  • PIT Starting Pitcher #45
Andrew Heaney limited the Yankees to one run over seven innings and struck out 10 on Sunday.
Impressive work against a team averaging nine runs per game. It’s Heaney’s 21st career 10-strikeout game. He had one of those last year for Texas. It’s just the fourth time since 2022 that he’s gotten the chance to complete seven innings. We still wouldn’t go trusting Heaney in mixed leagues, but it is to his benefit that he’s pitching half of the time in the worst home run ballpark of his career. He’ll face the Reds in Cincinnati next time out.
  • PIT Relief Pitcher #43
Given a chance to close, Ryan Borucki blew a three-run lead in the ninth Sunday against the Yankees.
The Pirates played matchups today, using Dennis Santana against the top of the Yankees order in the eighth. He retired Paul Goldschmidt, Cody Bellinger and Aaron Judge consecutively. Borucki, though, let the Pirates down by giving up three hits and a walk to the six batters he faced. The Pirates did go on to win in extra innings, but that this worked out so poorly for them is probably good news for those who picked up Santana.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #98
Will Warren lasted four innings and gave up four runs Sunday versus the Pirates.
All of the runs came in the first two innings. Warren recovered from there, but he didn’t come out for the fifth at 87 pitches. He wound up striking out five and walking one. Still, he’ll probably need to do better than this to stay in the rotation after Clarke Schmidt returns. Next week’s outing against the Giants might be his last chance.
  • NYY Center Fielder #35
Cody Bellinger returned to action Sunday and went 1-for-5 with a steal and a run scored against the Pirates.
Bellinger missed two games with back tightness. He was used in right field with Aaron Judge at DH today.
