  • CWS Relief Pitcher #63
White Sox and RHP Matt Foster avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $750,000 contract.
Foster will miss the majority of the 2024 campaign recovering from Tommy John surgery that he underwent back in April.
  • BOS Starting Pitcher
The Red Sox are planning to call up Richard Fitts for Sunday’s game against the White Sox.
He’ll likely start or serve as a bulk guy Sunday, which suggests Brayan Bello is getting pushed back. Fitts, a product of the Alex Verdugo trade with the Yankees, is 9-5 with a 4.17 ERA and a 111/37 K/BB in 116 2/3 innings for Triple-A Worcester.
  • LAA Right Fielder #3
Taylor Ward went 1-for-4 with a solo home run against the Rangers on Saturday.
Ward’s home run was his 22nd of the season. He hit a solo shot off Jack Leiter to leadoff the game in the first inning. It’s his fourth home run in six games in September so far. Ward is hitting .243 with a .744 OPS and 65 RBI this year.
  • TEX Third Baseman #6
Josh Jung went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double and a run scored against the Angels on Saturday.
Jung has six multi-hit games in his last nine games. He’s 15-for-35 (.428) five runs, two home runs and five RBI in that time. Jung missed nearly four months of the year, but he returned in time to show once again that he can still swing the stick.
  • TEX Second Baseman #2
Marcus Semien went 1-for-4 with a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base against the Angels on Saturday.
The stolen base is just his fifth of the season. He’s hitting .236 with a .689 OPS and 65 RBI this year. Semien has 18 home runs and 87 runs scored, which are respectable numbers, but his stats are down across the board this year. He turns 34 later this month and it’s fair to wonder at this point if this is the beginning of his decline.
  • TEX Relief Pitcher #39
Kirby Yates tossed a scoreless ninth inning and got the save against the Angels on Saturday.
Yates’ save was his 28th of the season. He struck out one in a perfect ninth inning. He lowered his ERA to 1.32 on the year. Yates has quietly been one of the better closers in all of baseball this year.
  • LAA Starting Pitcher #31
Tyler Anderson allowed two runs (one earned) in five innings and got a no-decision against the Rangers on Saturday.
Anderson gave up one hit, walked two and struck out seven. Wyatt Langford reached on an error to start the fifth inning before Anderson walked Nathaniel Lowe. Both runners came around to score on Ezequiel Duran’s double, which was the only hit Anderson allowed. The win was his 11th of the year. Anderson has a 3.50 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 132 strikeouts in 167 1/3 innings this year. The 34-year-old left-hander is set to face the Astros at home next week.
  • TEX Starting Pitcher #35
Jack Leiter allowed three runs in five innings and got a no-decision in the Rangers’ 6-4 victory over the Angels on Saturday.
Leiter gave up two hits, walked two and struck out six. This was one of the better outings of Leiter’s brief major league career so far. He has a 10.41 ERA, but should remain in the Rangers’ rotation. Leiter’s fantasy upside just isn’t there at the moment, though he should be held onto in dynasty formats. The 24-year-old right-hander is set to face the Mariners on the road next week.
  • ATL Third Baseman #65
Luke Williams drove in two runs while going 2-for-4 in a loss to the Blue Jays on Saturday.
Williams doubled home a pair in the ninth to make it a 9-4 game. Still counts. The 28-year-old could be starting games for Atlanta with the Whit Merrifield injury, but the team did just trade for Cavan Biggio, and Williams hasn’t shown he can hit nearly well enough to be considered a potential reliable fantasy contributor.
  • TOR Third Baseman #7
Will Wagner went 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI in a win over Atlanta on Saturday.
Wagner was one of three players for the Blue Jays who were able to pick up at least three hits, joining Nathan Lukes and Spencer Horwitz. Wagner has been extremely impressive since being recalled on August 12, and he now has a .329 average over his 21 games and 73 at-bats with the Blue Jays. There are question marks about the power, speed and defense; but Wagner has a hit tool that suggests being a helper in that category.
  • TOR First Baseman #48
Spencer Horwitz homered twice and drove in three runs while going 4-for-5 in a 9-1 blowout win for the Blue Jays of Atlanta.
Horwitz homered off Spencer Schwellenbach twice, and both were solo shots for the 26-year-old. He also drove in a run with a double in the fifth, and he’s now plated 32 runners to go with 11 homers. Six of those deep balls have come since the start of August, as he’s starting to drive the ball on a more consistent basis. It bodes well for Horwitz in the future, and fantasy managers should look to play the hot hand.
