Aaron Civale (hamstring) was scratched from Wednesday’s minor league rehab start for Triple-A Nashville.

Civale was scheduled to take the ball for the second game of Wednesday’s Triple-A doubleheader following Tuesday’s rainout, but that’s no longer happening. It sounds like there’s a decent chance he’s heading to rejoin the Brewers to start Thursday’s series opener against the Pirates. There should be an official update from Milwaukee at some point prior to Thursday’s contest.

It’s a bit unclear whether the issue is serious enough to warrant a trip to the injured list, but the Rangers can probably afford to give him a few days to rest and recover since they’re presently carrying three catchers on their active roster. The 29-year-old backstop appeared to injure his hand on a swing early in Wednesday’s game at Yankee Stadium and was forced to leave the contest. There should be an update on his status ahead of Thursday’s series finale, weather permitting.

PHI Starting Pitcher #76

Phillies RHP prospect Andrew Painter recorded seven strikeouts and allowed two runs — one earned — over four innings on Wednesday for Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Painter built up his pitch count to 71 (49 strikes) in his second outing at the Triple-A level. The dynamic 22-year-old top pitching prospect is expected to arrive in the majors at some point in the early stages of the second half after a couple additional outings on the doorstep of the big leagues. He should make an immediate impact for fantasy managers once he debuts.

Reds optioned RHP Lyon Richardson to Triple-A Louisville.

The move clears a roster spot for the Reds to activate ace Hunter Greene (groin) from the injured list to start Friday’s series opener against the Cubs. Richardson has compiled a strong 1.32 ERA across 13 2/3 innings (10 appearances) this season in the big leagues.

Heim appeared to injure his right hand and was unable to continue due to difficulty throwing the ball back to the mound. He was replaced by Tucker Barnhart. The silver lining here is that the Rangers are carrying three catchers already so they might not need to make a roster move at all. There should be an update on his status shortly.

Ramón Laureano (ankle) was held out of the lineup for Wednesday’s series finale against the Brewers.

The positive news here is that Laureano didn’t wind up hitting the injured list after suffering a scary-looking ankle injury during Tuesday’s contest. He’s day-to-day heading into a four-game series against the Red Sox at Fenway Park.

Schanuel is batting .212 in 33 at-bats this season against left-handers, so he’ll grab a seat on Wednesday night with veteran Kevin Newman getting a chance to face Athletics southpaw JP Sears. The suddenly red-hot Angels are vying for their sixth consecutive victory and are close to getting Mike Trout back from the injured list.

Glasnow is making gradual progress towards rejoining Los Angeles’ rotation at some point in late June or early July as he starts to ramp up his throwing progression. The 31-year-old righty hit the injured list back in late April with shoulder inflammation.
