The Phillies have promoted Cesar Ramos to bullpen coach.
The 39-year-old Ramos has spent the past two seasons as the pitching coach with Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He’ll replace Dave Lundquist, who has been on the Phillies’ major league staff since 2018. The team announced his departure following the team’s exit from the NLCS.

Mark Vientos went 2-for-5 with a solo home run against the Dodgers on Thursday.
Vientos’ home run was his fourth of the playoffs. He hit a solo shot off Yoshinobu Yamamoto in the first inning. Vientos now has 12 RBI in the postseason. The Mets have fallen behind 3-1 in the series, but Vientos has done all he can to help the team. He’s hitting .370 with a 1.070 OPS in October.

Mookie Betts went 4-for-6 with three runs scored, a double, a home run and four RBI against the Mets on Thursday.
Betts staked the Dodgers to a 5-2 lead with a two-run double in the fourth inning. Then he hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning. It was Betts’ third home run of the playoffs. After a slow start, he’s suddenly hitting .278 with a .964 OPS in the postseason.
  • LAD Designated Hitter #17
Shohei Ohtani went 1-for-3 with three walks, four runs and a solo home run against the Mets on Thursday.
Ohtani led off the game with a solo home run off Jose Quintana. It was his third home run of these playoffs and second of the NLCS. Ohtani didn’t have any other hits, but he walked three times and came around to score after each walk. He has an .895 OPS and nine RBI in the postseason so far.
  • NYM Starting Pitcher #62
Jose Quintana allowed five runs in 3 1/3 innings and took the loss against the Dodgers on Thursday.
Quintana gave up five hits, walked four and struck out two. Quintana had been solid in the two previous playoff rounds, but he was no match for the Dodgers in Game 4. Shohei Ohtani led off the game with a solo home run and then Mookie Betts did Quintana in with a two-run double in the fourth inning to make it 5-2 Dodgers. This very well could’ve been his last start with the Mets as he’ll hit free agency this offseason. Quintana will turn 36 before Opening Day 2025.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #18
Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed two runs in 4 1/3 innings and got a no-decision in the Dodgers’ 10-2 victory over the Mets in Game 4 of the NLCS on Thursday.
Yamamoto gave up four hits, walked one and struck out eight. He hasn’t pitched more than five innings in any of his three playoff starts, but that hasn’t been a problem. If Yamamoto can give the Dodgers a solid five innings, they’ll take it and that’s just about what he was able to provide in Game 4. Yamamoto turned the game over to the Dodgers bullpen, which has been a tremendous strength of the team this October. Los Angeles is now one win away from the World Series. Yamamoto’s next start is likely to come on baseball’s biggest stage.

Luke Weaver allowed two runs in 1 1/3 innings and blew the save against the Guardians on Thursday.
Weaver had been untouchable at the backend of the Yankees bullpen in the playoffs, but couldn’t close the door on the Guardians in Game 3. Weaver was one out away from a four-out save when Jhonkensy Noel hit a game-tying home run deep to left field. The Guardians won in extra innings on a David Fry home run off Clay Holmes. Cleveland ended up winning this battle of the bullpens, setting up an interesting next few games between the two teams.
  • NYY Right Fielder #27
Giancarlo Stanton went 1-for-3 with two walks and a solo home run against the Guardians on Thursday.
After Aaron Judge hit a game-tying home run off Emmanuel Clase in the eighth inning, Stanton followed with a go-ahead home run. After adding another run in the ninth inning, the Yankees had a two-run lead with three outs to go. It looked like Stanton was going to be the hero, but the Guardians came back in the ninth inning and won in extra innings. Stanton has three home runs, a 1.150 OPS and six RBI in the playoffs.
  • CLE First Baseman #43
Jhonkensy Noel went 1-for-1 with a two-run home run against the Yankees on Thursday.
Noel was 1-for-15 in the playoffs entering play Thursday, but saved his best for a big moment. With the Guardians down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth inning, trailing by two runs in the game and two games in the series, Noel hit a game-tying two-run home run off Luke Weaver. Cleveland would go on to win the game in extra innings on a David Fry walkoff home run, but it shouldn’t be lost on anyone that Noel saved the Guardians’ season for the time being.
  • CLE Catcher #6
David Fry went 1-for-2 with a walk and a two-run home run against the Yankees on Thursday.
Fry pinch-hit in the seventh inning and walked. In the 10th inning, he hit a walkoff two-run home run off Clay Holmes to seal the Guardians’ victory in Game 3. It’s Fry’s second home run of the playoffs and the other was also a game-winning home run that came against Detroit in Game 4 of the ALDS. Fry will likely start Friday’s game on the bench with the Yankees starting right-hander Luis Gil, but he’s already proven that he can be a weapon as a pinch hitter in the late innings.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #36
Clarke Schmidt allowed two runs in 4 2/3 innings and got a no-decision against the Guardians on Thursday.
Schmidt gave up five hits, walked two and struck out two. The Yankees had a 1-0 lead when Schmidt gave up a two-run home run to Kyle Manzardo in the third inning. Those were the only runs off Schmidt on the day, though. It was a solid effort, though Schmidt hasn’t been quite as sharp during the playoffs as he was in the regular season.
