  • NYM Relief Pitcher #63
Bryce Montes de Oca (elbow) has been throwing at the team’s spring training complex in Florida as he continues his recovery from Tommy John surgery.
The 27-year-old right-hander missed the entire 2023 season after undergoing the procedure, but it’s encouraging to see that he’s already throwing again. He should be an option to help out the Mets around the All-Star break in 2024 provided everything continues to go smoothly in his recovery.
  • CIN Shortstop #44
Elly De La Cruz went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, two runs scored, an RBI and two stolen bases against the Rockies on Monday.
De La Cruz is now up to 45 steals on the season. He’s been one of the most electric players in fantasy baseball this year. De La Cruz is hitting .251 with an .813 OPS and 40 RBI on the season.
  • CIN Outfielder #87
Rece Hinds went 2-for-3 with a double and a solo home run against the Rockies on Monday.
Hinds doubled on a line drive in the fifth inning for his first major league hit and then blasted a 450-foot home run in the eighth inning for his first major league home run. Not a bad major league debut for the 23-year-old. Hinds has some serious raw power. He had a .193 ISO at Triple-A Louisville this year, but there’s also a lot of strikeouts as he had a 38 percent strikeout percentage. This could be a good hot streak for fantasy managers before major league pitchers figure out how to strike him out. If Hinds can continue to tap into his power, that’ll play in any park, let alone Great American Ballpark.
  • COL Starting Pitcher #18
Ryan Feltner allowed two runs (one earned) in seven innings and took the loss against the Reds on Monday.
Feltner gave up four hits, walked three and struck out six. Feltner certainly pitched well enough on Monday, but the Rockies offense provided no run support. He’s still stuck on one win this year. Feltner lowered his ERA to 5.29, though his 3.98 xFIP suggests he’s been much better than that skill-wise. Maybe that would make him interesting on another team, but he can’t win games for the Rockies and has to pitch half of his games at Coors Field. The 27-year-old right-hander is set to face the Mets on the road this weekend.
  • CIN Starting Pitcher #41
Andrew Abbott tossed seven shutout innings and got the win in the Reds’ 3-0 victory over the Rockies on Monday.
Abbott gave up three hits, walked two and struck out eight. The win was Abbott’s ninth of the year. He certainly pitched well against the Rockies on Monday, but this is still a pitcher with a 7.17 K/9, 3.32 BB/9, and 1.40 HR/9 that pitches half of his games in Cincinnati. He has a 3.06 ERA despite a 4.81 xFIP this year largely due to his 86 percent left on base percentage and .230 BABIP allowed. He has to regress at some point. The 25-year-old left-hander is set to face the Marlins at home this weekend.
  • DET Left Fielder #21
Mark Canha went 0-for-3 with a walk and an RBI against the Guardians on Monday.
Canha’s fielder’s choice RBI in the bottom of the eighth brought in the only run of the Tigers’ 1-0 victory. He hit .278 with five home runs and 16 RBI in April, but he’s hit .194 with one home run and 18 RBI since then. He hasn’t homered since May 11th and doesn’t have an extra-base hit since June 11th. At 35-years-old it’s safe to wonder how much he has left in the tank at this point.
  • DET Relief Pitcher #7
Shelby Miller tossed a scoreless ninth inning and picked up the save against the Guardians on Monday.
It was Miller’s first save of the season. He entered a 1-0 game in the ninth inning and slammed the door on the Guardians as he retired the side in order. This development is potentially concerning for Jason Foley, who was available after not pitching on Sunday. Foley had allowed at least one run in three of his last four appearances and now Miller got his first save of the year. Perhaps the Tigers are merely showcasing Miller ahead of the trade deadline, but this is a situation to monitor going forward.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #32
Gavin Williams tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings and got a no-decision against the Tigers on Monday.
Williams gave up four hits, walked one and struck out five. He allowed five runs in his first start since returning from the injured list, but bounced back nicely against the Tigers. He threw 89 pitches, exactly 15 more than the 74 he threw in his last start. Williams should be able to go over 100 pitches his next time out. The 24-year-old right-hander is set to face the Rays on the road this weekend.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #54
Keider Montero tossed 6 1/3 scoreless innings and got a no-decision in the Tigers’ 1-0 victory over the Guardians on Monday.
Montero gave up three hits, walked one and struck out four. Montero had a quality start and beat the Twins in his last start, which makes this his second good start in a row. He’s now the clear choice over Matt Manning to be the Tigers’ fill-in starter. With Casey Mize on the injured list, he should continue to get opportunities. Montero has some appeal in AL-Only leagues, but he’s probably best left on the bench against the Dodgers this weekend.
  • LAA Center Fielder #27
Mike Trout took soft toss and jogged outside on the field prior to Monday’s game.
“I feel great, I feel fine and I’m progressing the way I should be,” Trout said. “It’s good to get out there and start moving around instead of being in the weight room and the cage. It’s all about the progression of running. I feel good hitting. I took 30 swings out there with no pain at all.” Trout is aiming to return from knee surgery late this month.
  • SEA Catcher #33
Mariners sent C Seby Zavala outright to Triple-A Tacoma.
It’s his second time being outrighted in the last few weeks. He has the choice of becoming a free agent, but he opted to stay with the Mariners last time around.
