Roby did allow two earned runs on three hits with a walk, which continued his up-and-down AFL stint. He was dominant in his first outing then couldn’t get out of the first inning last week, so Tuesday’s outing was a step in the right direction. Roby was injured for a large part of 2023 and then was traded to the Cardinals at the deadline as part of the Jordan Montgomery trade. In four starts with St. Louis’ Double-A affiliate, he posted a 3.00 ERA with a 43.2 percent strikeout rate, and a four-pitch arsenal highlighted by a plus fastball and curveball. The 22-year-old is unlikely to break camp with the Cardinals but could be a name to watch by the summer.

Baa. Lamb provides the Giants with some extra first base depth heading into spring training behind LaMonte Wade Jr. and Wilmer Flores. The 34-year-old veteran slugger, who posted a .744 OPS with seven homers in 414 plate appearances last year at Triple-A Indianapolis, didn’t appear in the big leagues last season, but has appeared in 723 contests dating back to 2014.

The New York Post’s Jon Heyman adds that Borucki will earn $1.15 million plus incentives if he makes the majors. The 30-year-old lefty missed most of last year due to triceps inflammation. He’s made 148 appearances (21 starts) in the big leagues dating back to 2018. He’ll augment Pittsburgh’s organizational relief depth heading into next season.

It’s quite entertaining to see the Rockies and Angels in the mix with a handful of legitimate contenders for one of the better lefty relievers left on the open market. The Mets and Yankees have been linked to Hill throughout the offseason with the Dodgers and Diamondbacks making a ton of sense as potential landing spots as well.

Mayza is heading to Pittsburgh, pending a physical, as extra left-handed relief depth after being non-tendered earlier this offseason by the Yankees. The 33-year-old southpaw was a key component of Toronto’s bullpen for multiple years prior to last season’s unexpected collapse when he struggled to a calamitous 8.03 ERA over 35 appearances before being cut loose and heading to New York where he finished with a respectable 4.00 ERA over 15 appearances.

Wall gives San Diego some additional outfield depth entering spring training and is likely ticketed for Triple-A El Paso to open the year. The 29-year-old has gotten into 31 games at the big-league level over the past two seasons between the Braves and Marlins, batting .311/.380/.422 with one homer and nine steals in 50 plate appearances.

Seattle doesn’t have a ton of depth at the keystone entering spring training, so López makes a ton of sense as a break glass in case of emergency stopgap. The 32-year-old journeyman got into a career-high 27 contests last year for the division-rival Halos. He’s spent close to a decade bouncing around the upper minors between several organizations, sipping the occasional cup of coffee when the opportunity arises.

Lavastida got into six games for the Guardians back in 2022 and hasn’t been back in the big leagues ever since. The 26-year-old former prospect spent all last season at Triple-A Columbus, posting a lackluster .232/.334/.387 triple-slash line with eight homers and five steals in 345 plate appearances. He fortifies Houston’s organizational catching depth chart at Triple-A Sugar Land.

Seagle fortifies Atlanta’s catching depth chart at Triple-A Gwinnett heading into next season. The 28-year-old backstop got into one game for the Padres during the 2023 season and spent all of last year at Triple-A El Paso, batting .180/.219/.280 with one homer in 38 games.

Snelten hasn’t appeared in the big leagues since making four relief appearances during the 2018 campaign for the Giants. The 32-year-old journeyman southpaw was out of affiliated ball last year, making a handful of appearances south of the border in the independent Mexican League.

Romero hasn’t appeared in the big leagues since 2018 when he made eight relief appearances split between the Nationals, Pirates and Royals. The 34-year-old journeyman southpaw has spent the past several years overseas in Japan including stints with the Chunichi Dragons and Chiba Lotte Marines. He’ll presumably give the Giants some extra relief depth in spring training.
