  • NYY Relief Pitcher #63
Nick Ramirez notched his first major league save after pitching a scoreless ninth in the second game of Tuesday’s doubleheader against the Red Sox.
Clay Holmes pitched in the first game, so he wasn’t coming back out for Game 2. The Yankees managed to hold the Red Sox scoreless over the second half of the game with scoreless innings from Zach McAllister, Anthony Misiewicz, Matt Bowman and Ramirez. McAllister and Bowman were making their first appearances in the majors for the first time since 2018 and 2019, respectively.
  • SF Relief Pitcher #48
Giants acquired LHP Alex Young from the Reds for OF Austin Slater.
Young has thrown just two innings at the big league level in 2024 but has a 1.19 ERA across 22 2/3 innings at Triple-A with a 22/7 K/BB ratio. He has also been a valuable reliever for the last two seasons and appeared in 63 games for the Reds last year. He should get a chance to contribute for the Giants in the near future.
  • CIN Left Fielder #13
Reds acquired OF Austin Slater and cash considerations from the Giants for LHP Alex Young.
Slater is struggling this year with just a .200/.333/.224 slash line; however, he has made his reputation as a strong offensive player against left-handed pitching with a career .275/.367/.437 line. The Reds have a left-handed-heavy outfield, and the recent injury to Nick Martini has left Edwin Rios as the main designated hitter. Slater should see regular starts against lefties with the chance to carve out more playing time if he hits.
  • BOS Third Baseman #11
Rafael Devers blasted a pair of solo home runs on Sunday night, powering the Red Sox to a 3-0 victory and a series win over the Yankees in New York.
With the two bitter rivals mired in a scoreless tie heading to the seventh inning, Devers finally broke through as he lined a 2-2 fastball from Luis Gil over the wall in left-center for a 373-foot (103.8 mph EV) solo shot. He then crushed a 423-foot (107.0 mph EV) bomb off of Michael Tonkin in the ninth that made it 3-0. The 27-year-old All-Star third baseman also singled in the ballgame, finishing the night 3-for-4. On the season, he’s now slashing .293/.378/.593 to go along with 21 homers and 55 RBI.
  • BOS Center Fielder #43
Ceddanne Rafaela went 1-for-3 and belted a solo homer on Sunday night as the Red Sox eked out a victory over the Yankees in New York.
The versatile 23-year-old delivered a valuable insurance run with a two-out, 412-foot (106.1 mph EV) solo shot off of Luke Weaver in the eighth inning that increased the Red Sox’ lead to 2-0. On the season, he’s now hitting .244/.272/.417 with 11 long balls, 50 RBI and 11 stolen bases through his first 87 ballgames.
  • BOS Relief Pitcher #74
Kenley Jansen closed out the Yankees on Sunday night, working a scoreless ninth inning to preserve a three-run advantage.
The 36-year-old hurler picked up his 18th save of the season for his troubles. He made quick work of the Yankees in this one, getting Ben Rice on a ground ball to first, Juan Soto on a liner to left and Aaron Judge on a swinging third strike to end it. Jansen has been as reliable as ever this season, converting 18 of his first 19 save chances while posting a 2.01 ERA over 31 1/3 innings of work.
  • BOS Starting Pitcher #50
Kutter Crawford delivered a brilliant performance in Sunday night’s victory over the Yankees, scattering four hits over seven scoreless innings of work.
The 28-year-old right-hander punched out four batters on the evening and didn’t walk a batter. He needed just 68 pitches (54 strikes) to get through his seven innings. Crawford has never pitched into the eighth inning in his big-league career though, and the Red Sox trusted their bullpen to get the final six outs. Crawford generated nine whiffs on the night while posting an elite CSW of 38 percent. He’ll attempt to finish the first half strong as he carries a stellar 3.24 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 106/28 K/BB ratio (105 2/3 innings) into Saturday’s matchup against the Royals.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #81
Luis Gil was outstanding in a tough-luck loss against the Red Sox on Sunday night, racking up nine strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings of one-run baseball.
The 26-year-old hurler scattered just four hits on the evening and didn’t walk a batter. He was engaged in a scoreless pitcher’s duel with Kutter Crawford until he served up an opposite-field solo homer to Rafael Devers in the seventh inning. Gil generated 15 swings and misses on 96 pitches in the ballgame — seven on his fastball and six on his slider — while posting a CSW of 31 percent. He’ll look to replicate this fine outing and finish the first half strong as he brings a 3.27 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and a 111/48 K/BB ratio (96 1/3 innings) into a tough matchup against the Orioles in Baltimore on Saturday.
  • TOR Right Fielder #4
George Springer continued his hot hitting in Sunday’s extra-inning 5-4 victory over the Mariners, going 1-for-5 with a three-run homer.
Springer turned the game on its head and started the comeback for the Jays, crushing a game-tying 400-foot (106.9 mph EV) three-run homer off of Ryne Stanek in the seventh inning that knotted things up at 4-4. That would be his only hit on the night but played a critical role in the come-from-behind victory. On the season, the 34-year-old outfielder is now slashing .221/.311/.361 with 10 homers and 31 RBI.
  • TOR Relief Pitcher #92
Genesis Cabrera slammed the door on the Mariners in the 10th inning on Sunday, protecting a one-run lead to earn his second save of the season.
The 27-year-old hurler was given a one-run lead to protect with a man on second to start the 10th inning and he didn’t disappoint. He did allow a one-out infield single to Dylan Moore, and then a double steal that put both runners into scoring position, but he rallied to get J.P. Crawford on a foul out to third base. Cabrera then walked Mitch Garver to load the bases before getting Cal Raleigh on a fly ball to center to end it. Cabrera isn’t going to steal many saves away from Chad Green (and eventually Yimi Garcia), but he has shown the ability to get the job done when called upon.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #17
Jose Berrios piled up 10 strikeouts over six innings of four-run baseball in a no-decision against the Mariners on Sunday afternoon in Seattle.
Overall, Berrios scattered seven hits on the afternoon while issuing one base on balls. All of the damage done against him came via the long ball, with Victor Robles launching a solo homer in the third inning and Mitch Garver crushing a three-run shot in the fifth. Berrios got 13 whiffs on 98 pitches in the ballgame, posting a CSW of 31 percent. He now holds a 3.76 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and an 87/29 K/BB ratio over 115 innings through his first 19 starts on the season. He’ll toe the slab against the Diamondbacks his next time out in Arizona on Saturday night.
