Cardinals placed LHP Jojo Romero on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to September 2, with left knee patellar tendonitis.
Romero figures to miss at least a couple weeks moving forward with Ryan Helsley handling the majority of the save chances for St. Louis in his absence. The 26-year-old left-hander has compiled a 3.68 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and a 42/10 K/BB ratio over 36 2/3 innings on the season while recording three saves and four victories.
  • NYY First Baseman #48
Anthony Rizzo went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI in the Yankees’ 2-1 win over the Mariners on Wednesday.
Rizzo knocked a base hit in the second inning to score Jasson Domínguez for the first run of the game. With things tied up in the tenth inning, he came through for the Yankees again with a double to give New York the lead with what would be the game-winning run.
  • SEA Designated Hitter #2
Justin Turner went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and a walk against the Yankees on Wednesday.
Turner knocked a double in the second inning, then came up clutch in a big spot for the Mariners in the eighth. With Seattle trailing by one run, he took Clay Holmes deep for a game-tying solo homer. The Mariners eventually fell in the 10th, with Turner striking out to end the game.
  • NYY Relief Pitcher #71
Ian Hamilton struck out two batters in a scoreless 10th inning to earn the save against the Mariners on Wednesday.
Hamilton took the mound in the bottom of the tenth to close out the game with a one-run lead. He gave up a base hit to put runners on the corners before striking out a batter while Julio Rodríguez was picked off at third. Hamilton then struck out the final batter to end the game, securing the win and locking up a playoff spot for the Yankees.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #65
Nestor Cortes tossed six shutout innings with six strikeouts in a no-decision against the Mariners on Wednesday.
Cortes was brilliant in Seattle on Wednesday, holding the Mariners scoreless over six frames. He worked around four hits and three walks, inducing six groundouts and striking out six batters. The 29-year-old right-hander will take a 3.77 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and a 162/39 K/BB ratio across 174 1/3 innings into a start against the Orioles in New York on Tuesday.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #50
Bryce Miller allowed one run with eight strikeouts over six innings in a no-decision against the Yankees on Wednesday.
Miller worked around a walk in the first inning, then gave up a run on a walk and a base hit in the second. He then worked around a bases loaded jam in the third, striking out Jazz Chisholm to end the threat. Miller fired three more clean frames to end his day after six innings with eight strikeouts. He’d get saddled with a no-decision after getting no run support. The 26-year-old right-hander will take a 3.06 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and a 166/43 K/BB ratio across 173 1/3 innings into a start against the Astros on Houston on Monday.
  • MIN Shortstop #4
Carlos Correa went 3-for-5 with four RBI against the Guardians on Wednesday.
Correa was responsible for all four of the Twins’ runs in just his third game back since returning from injury. He drove in a run on a fielder’s choice in the first inning and singled in another in the fifth inning. His bases-loaded two-run single in the top of the 10th inning, gave the Twins a 4-2 advantage. Correa is hitting .315 with a .910 OPS and 51 RBI on the year.
  • BOS Relief Pitcher #74
Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters after Wednesday’s game that Kenley Jansen is dealing with a shoulder issue.
Not only did Jansen have some command issues with two walks, but his velocity was down. Cora said that he was good enough to get through the inning in terms of health, but this is a situation to monitor; especially with the Red Sox closer to lottery status than playoff contention.
  • CLE Second Baseman #0
Andres Gimenez went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base against the Twins on Wednesday.
Gimenez’ stolen base was his 30th of the season. He’s hitting just .250 on the year, but has eight home runs and 60 RBI to go along with the steals.
