  • TEX Starting Pitcher #43
Rangers RHP prospect Owen White will start for the American League on Saturday in the 2023 MLB All-Star Futures Game.
White, who made his major-league debut earlier this season for a contending Rangers’ squad, will toe the rubber in Seattle with a pretty sensational lineup behind him. Here’s the full order: Jonatan Clase (SEA) CF, Marcelo Mayer (BOS) SS, Heston Kjerstad (BAL) RF, Harry Ford (SEA) C, Lawrence Butler (OAK) LF, Junior Caminero (TB) 3B, Tyler Soderstrom (OAK) 1B, Justyn-Henry Malloy (DET) DH and Nick Yorke (BOS) 2B.
  • SEA Center Fielder #10
Victor Robles (hip) returned to the Mariners’ starting lineup for Friday evening’s showdown against the Phillies.
Robles hasn’t played since Tuesday when he left their game against the Red Sox with a hip issue that has been bothering him for some time. It sounds like a couple of days off did him some good though, as he’s right back out there in center field and batting leadoff against Tyler Phillips and the Phillies on Friday night.
  • MIN Right Fielder #26
Max Kepler (head) remains out of the Twins’ starting lineup for Friday night’s soiree against the White Sox.
Kepler was pulled from Wednesday’s game after he was hit in the head by an attempted throw to second base by Mets’ catcher Francisco Alvarez. The encouraging news, at least as of now, is that he hasn’t been placed on the injured list at all. For the time being, he should still be considered day-to-day.
  • BAL Third Baseman #86
Coby Mayo will start at second base and bat eighth for the Orioles in his big-league debut against the Guardians on Friday evening in Cleveland.
The 22-year-old top prospect should have a decent runway here to show what he can do as an everyday bat for the Orioles with Jordan Westburg (hand) sidelined — making him interesting in all mixed leagues. Mayo was hitting .308/.384/.619 with 23 homers, 67 RBI, four swipes and an 88/36 K/BB ratio over 357 plate appearances in the minors this season.
  • ARI First Baseman #9
Josh Bell is starting at first base and batting cleanup in his Diamondbacks’ debut against the Pirates on Friday night.
The Diamondbacks are going to swap Bell right into the hole in the middle of their lineup that was vacated by injured slugger Christian Walker (oblique). Once Walker is healthy, we’ll see how they plan to do things when both boppers are available. Bell had been hitting .239/.305/.394 with 14 homers and 49 RBI in 104 games with the Marlins.
  • LAA Shortstop #2
Luis Rengifo (wrist) returned to the Angels’ starting lineup for Friday night’s series opener against the Mets.
Rengifo was forced to leave Wednesday’s game — and then sat out on Thursday — due to a flareup in his wrist, but thankfully it appears to have been only a minor issue. The versatile 27-year-old will start at third base and bat second against Paul Blackburn and the Mets on Friday evening in Los Angeles.
  • BOS Relief Pitcher #48
Red Sox sent RHP Yohan Ramirez outright to Triple-A Worcester.
The 29-year-old hurler had been designated for assignment earlier in the week, but he passed through waivers unclaimed and will continue to serve as extra bullpen depth for the Red Sox at the Triple-A level. Ramirez appeared in just one ballgame with the Red Sox, allowing three runs (two earned) over 1 1/3 frames.
  • BOS Catcher #3
Red Sox sent C Reese McGuire outright to Triple-A Worcester.
McGuire lost his grip on the Red Sox’ backup catcher’s job after they acquired Danny Jansen from the Blue Jays just before the trade deadline. He’ll continue to function as extra depth at the Triple-A level, but it’s going to take an injury to Jansen or Connor Wong most likely for him to earn another shot at the big-league level.
  • CHC Relief Pitcher #61
Cubs claimed RHP Trey Wingenter off of waivers from the Red Sox.
The 30-year-old hurler is on the move again after getting designated for assignment by the Red Sox on Tuesday. He posted a troublesome 27.00 ERA and 3.00 WHIP in his two innings with the Red Sox, so it’s not hard to see why he was let go. It’s unclear if he’ll join the Cubs’ bullpen immediately or if they plan on sending him to Triple-A Iowa to begin his tenure with the club.
  • OAK Shortstop #2
Athletics activated INF Darrel Hernaiz from the 60-day injured list.
The 22-year-old infielder has been sidelined since early May due to a severe left ankle sprain. He’s back with the A’s though and will be in uniform for Friday’s series opener against the Dodgers. He’ll take the spot of Brett Harris on the A’s active roster after Harris was optioned back to Triple-A Las Vegas.
  • CIN Shortstop #9
Reds’ manager David Bell told reporters on Friday that Matt McLain recently suffered a stress reaction in his rib.
It sounds like it’s just a minor issue, but his activities will at least be limited for the next three-to-seven days. Bell noted that McLain could still potentially begin a minor league rehab assignment on August 12, though that seems a bit optimistic at the moment.
