Twins signed RHP Austin Brice to a minor league contract
Brice made four relief appearances last year for the Pirates and compiled a lackluster 5.56 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 53/18 K/BB ratio across 43 2/3 innings (37 appearances, two starts) for Triple-A Indianapolis. The 30-year-old will give the Twins additional relief depth in the upper minors.

Brendan Donovan was scratched from Tuesday’s lineup with rib soreness.
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol told reporters he doesn’t anticipate Donovan requiring a trip to the injured list. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. It’ll be Nolan Gorman at second base with Masyn Winn at shortstop on Tuesday night in his return from the injured list.
  • CWS Starting Pitcher #54
ESPN’s Jesse Rogers reports Martín Pérez (elbow) will miss the remainder of the season.
Rogers adds that according to a source, Pérez won’t require Tommy John surgery, but isn’t expected to resume throwing until September, which doesn’t leave him enough time to make it back to Chicago’s rotation. The 34-year-old hit the injured list over the weekend with elbow inflammation. It’s unclear whether he’s electing to undergo surgery, or proceed with the rest and rehabilitation route, but it sounds like his season is essentially over.
  • BOS Catcher #12
Connor Wong (finger) has resumed catching bullpen sessions.
Wong hit the injured list back on April 8 with a fractured finger and is on track to return to Boston’s catching mix at some point in early May.
  • BOS Starting Pitcher #54
Red Sox manager Alex Cora confirmed Lucas Giolito (hamstring) will make another minor league rehab start.
Cora added that Giolito will return to Boston’s rotation next week, but they haven’t decided on a specific date. The 30-year-old will make his final rehab start later this week at either Triple-A Worcester or Double-A Portland. He threw 65 pitches (47 strikes) on Sunday for Double-A Portland in his latest rehab outing.
  • FA Shortstop #16
    Diamondbacks released INF Grae Kessinger.
Kessinger has been cut loose by Arizona after passing through waivers unclaimed following his removal over the weekend from the club’s 40-man roster. The 27-year-old projects as a bench infielder at the highest level. He’ll most likely have to settle for a minor league contract, but should be able to latch on somewhere else.
  • ARI Center Fielder #1
Diamondbacks recalled OF Jorge Barrosa from Triple-A Reno.
Barrosa, not top prospect Jordan Lawlar, gets the call to the majors ahead of Tuesday’s series opener against the Rays in the wake of Jake McCarthy’s demotion to Triple-A Reno. The 24-year-old outfielder figures to platoon with Alek Thomas in center field moving forward.
  • FA Relief Pitcher #67
Jacob Barnes has elected free agency.
Barnes went unclaimed on waivers after being removed from Toronto’s 40-man roster over the weekend. The 35-year-old righty should be able to latch on somewhere else as emergency relief depth.
  • MIA Starting Pitcher #35
Ryan Weathers (forearm) faced hitters on Tuesday in a live batting practice session.
Weathers showed a ton of promise last year when he posted a strong 3.63 ERA over 16 starts for the Marlins. The 25-year-old southpaw is working his way back from a left flexor strain and should be ready to kick off a minor league rehab assignment in the coming weeks. He appears on track to make his season debut by the end of May.
  • NYY 1st Baseman #22
Ben Rice (elbow) is back in the lineup at DH for Tuesday’s game against the Guardians.
Rice missed two starts after suffering a bruised elbow when he was hit by a pitch Saturday. He’s leading off on Tuesday night at Progressive Field.
  • CHC Relief Pitcher #46
Cubs recalled RHP Gavin Hollowell from Triple-A Iowa.
He takes the spot of Jordan Wicks, who was sent down last night. Hollowell pitched in one game for the Cubs late last year after being claimed off waivers from the Diamondbacks. He had a 4.26 ERA and a 10/3 K/BB in 6 1/3 innings out of Iowa’s pen this season.
