White Sox signed LHP Ricardo Sánchez to a minor league contract.
Sánchez made a trio of relief appearances for the Cardinals during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season and spent last year at the Triple-A level between the Phillies and Tigers, finishing with an underwhelming 4.95 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 103/41 K/BB ratio across 116 1/3 innings (26 starts). The 25-year-old left-hander is merely upper-level organizational starting pitching depth for the White Sox entering the 2023 season.

  • CWS Left Fielder #23

Andrew Benintendi left Sunday’s game against the Tigers with an adductor injury.
Benintendi appeared to come up lame after scoring a run in the first inning against the Tigers. The 30-year-old outfielder took his next at-bat, but was then pinch-hit for in the fifth inning by Nick Maton. The White Sox quickly announced Benintendi left the game with an adductor injury and deemed him day-to-day, which implies a trip to the injured won’t be necessary.
  • SEA Second Baseman #7
Mariners manager Dan Wilson told reporters Jorge Polanco is experiencing soreness in his left knee.
The Mariners hoped Polanco would bounce back after he sat out Saturday’s game, but he’s getting another afternoon off with soreness in his surgically-repaired left knee. The 31-year-old infielder was replaced in the lineup by Dylan Moore. Polanco hasn’t been placed on the injured list, which is a good sign, but the soreness hasn’t subsided enough for him to return to the lineup yet either.
  • STL Catcher #48
Ivan Herrera (leg) left Sunday’s game against the Red Sox.
Herrera pulled up lame running the bases in the third inning of the first game of the Cardinals’ doubleheader against the Red Sox. He was helped off the field by the team trainer and wasn’t able to put weight on his foot. While that’s all we know for now, a trip to the injured list could be in the red-hot catcher’s future.
  • PIT Third Baseman #19
Jared Triolo isn’t playing Sunday because of back soreness.
Triolo was a late scratch from a game he was due to start at shortstop. He’s day-to-day.
  • SEA Second Baseman #7
Jorge Polanco is out of the Mariners lineup for a second straight game Sunday.
Something is obviously wrong here, though the Mariners wouldn’t say anything about it Saturday. Polanco is 9-for-20 with two homers this season, so if he were fine, he’d be out there. Instead, Dylan Moore is starting at third today.
  • BAL Starting Pitcher #32
Kyle Gibson is coming a three-inning bullpen session in Florida and will soon join Triple-A Norfolk’s roster.
Gibson is building up after signing with the Orioles on March 22. He should be a rotation option sometime around May 1.
  • NYM Starting Pitcher #77
Appearing in a game for the first time since 2019, Matt Allan pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings for low-A St. Lucie on Sunday.
Allan struck out five and averaged 95.9 mph with his fastball. Once arguably the Mets’ best pitching prospect, Allan had Tommy John surgery in 2021 and needed a revision two years later. He’s still just 23, so if his arm holds up, he still very much has a chance to turn into a major leaguer.
  • ATL Catcher #45
Braves designated C Chadwick Tromp for assignment.
Tromp was designated for assignment as the Braves reinstated Sean Murphy (rib) from the injured list Sunday. Tromp had been the Braves’ backup catcher, but the team will opt to keep Drake Baldwin in that role going forward.
  • PIT Third Baseman #19
Jared Triolo was scratched from Sunday’s lineup for the game against the Yankees.
No reason was given. Triolo was set to play shortstop today, giving Isiah Kiner-Falefa his first day off of the season. There will be no break for IKF, however.
  • ATL Catcher #12
Braves reinstate C Sean Murphy from the injured list.
With the Braves being rained out Sunday against the Marlins, Murphy is set to make his 2025 season debut against the Phillies on Tuesday. While no one likes to draft an injured player, fantasy managers may have found a bargain in Murphy, who missed only a little more than a week of the regular season. Chadwick Tromp was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.
