Padres signed RHP Jake Sanchez to a minor league contract.
Sanchez has yet to ascend to the majors and hasn’t pitched in affiliated ball since the 2018 season. The 33-year-old right-hander has spent the last half-decade pitching in the independent Mexican League, most recently for the Sultanes de Monterrey.

Diamondbacks reassigned INF Ildemaro Vargas o minor league camp.
Vargas was in competition with Garrett Hampson for the utility job, and the D-Backs chose Hampson. Vargas will presumably begin the season with Triple-A Reno.
  • Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports that the Twins have informed Eiberson Castellano he won’t be a part of the Opening Day roster.
Castellano was the Twins’ Rule 5 draft pick, and Minnesota obviously didn’t feel comfortable with carrying him on the roster throughout 2025. Minnesota can try and work out a trade with the Phillies — the team the Twins selected Castellano from — but if not, he’ll be returned to the organization.
  • BOS Starting Pitcher #79
Chris Cotillo of MassLive reports that Bryan Mata will not be a part of the Opening Day roster for the Red Sox.
Mata was re-signed to a minor league contract just hours after being non-tendered by Boston in November, and he didn’t do enough in the Grapefruit League to justify a roster spot. He could be up at some point this spring if he pitches well in Triple-A, but Boston will need to clear room on the 40-man roster.
  • LAA Relief Pitcher #52
Angels signed RHP Carl Edwards Jr. to a minor league contract.
Edwards Jr. will likely stay behind in extended spring training before reporting to Triple-A Salt Lake. The 33-year-old is just org depth at this stage of his career.
  • LAD Third Baseman #13
Max Muncy pulverized his second home run of the spring on Sunday, propelling the Dodgers to a 7-1 victory over the Angels in their Freeway Series matchup.
Muncy was the only hitter on the Dodgers that did any damage against Jose Soriano on Sunday, crushing a first-pitch sinker for a 383-foot (99.2 mph eV) solo homer in the fifth inning that tied the game at 1-1. He finished the night 1-for-2 and is now hitting .227 (5-for-22) with a pair of homers and seven RBI. As long as he’s healthy, he’s going to be a viable contributor for fantasy purposes — just don’t expect him to help you out in batting average.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #79
Jackson Ferris pitched well in Sunday’s Freeway Series start against the Angels, allowing one run on two hits across 3 2/3 innings.
The 21-year-old hurler struck out four batters on the day while issuing a pair of free passes. The only blemish on his day came on a solo homer off the bat of Taylor Ward. Ferris got six swings and misses on 62 pitches in the ballgame — two each on his fastball, slider and curveball — while registering a CSW of 26 percent. He’ll open the year as extra rotation depth for the Dodgers in the upper minor leagues.
  • LAA Right Fielder #3
Taylor Ward belted a solo home run in the third inning on Sunday night, accounting for the Angels’ lone run in a loss to the Dodgers.
Ward finally got the Halos on the board in the third inning with a 399-foot (101.2 mph EV) solo shot off of Jackson Ferris. That would wind up being their only tally in the ballgame. The 31-year-old outfielder finished his day 1-for-3 plus a walk and is now hitting .275 (11-for-40) with one homer, four RBI and one stolen base on the spring.
  • LAA Starting Pitcher #59
José Soriano put together another strong performance in Sunday’s Freeway Series battle against the Dodgers, surrendering only one run on four hits across his 5 1/3 innings of work.
The 26-year-old right-hander walked two and struck out two batters on the evening. The lone tally against him came on a solo shot off the bat of Max Muncy in the fifth inning. Soriano got seven whiffs on 85 pitches on the night, posting an underwhelming CSW of 20 percent. He finishes the spring with a 3.60 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and a 21/10 K/BB ratio over 20 innings.
  • SEA Catcher #29
Cal Raleigh went 3-for-5 with a pair of solo homers on Sunday afternoon, powering the Mariners to a 10-6 victory over the visiting Brewers.
Raleigh gave the M’s a 3-2 lead with his towering solo shot off of Garrett Stallings in the fifth inning. The hard-hitting 28-year-old backstop then capped off the scoring in the ballgame with his solo blast to right off of Kaleb Bowman to finish off a seven-run uprising in the eighth inning. He has performed about as expected this spring, hitting a brutal .193 (11-for-57) but with five long balls and 10 RBI.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #50
Bryce Miller pitched decently in a no-decision against the Brewers on Sunday, allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits over 5 1/3 innings of work.
Miller punched out five opposing hitters on the afternoon while allowing one base on balls. The Brewers scratched out a pair of unearned runs against him in the third inning, then Miller served up a two-run homer to Wes Clarke before exiting in the sixth. The 26-year-old hurler got just four swings and misses on 76 pitches in the game, registering a CSW of 30 percent. He finishes Cactus League play with a respectable 3.77 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and a 17/3 K/BB ratio over 14 1/3 innings.
