Orioles designated LHP Darwinzon Hernandez for assignment.
The move clears a spot for the newly-acquired Cole Irvin on the 40-man roster. Hernandez was recently acquired from the Red Sox for cash considerations, but now he could be on the move again. It’s an evolving situation for now.

Ezequiel Tovar was removed from Wednesday’s game against the Padres with a left triceps contusion.
The positive news here is that Tovar doesn’t appear to be dealing with anything serious after being hit on the arm by a pitch from Padres starter Michael King during Wednesday’s Cactus League contest. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.
  • BAL Shortstop #2
Gunnar Henderson has been diagnosed with a mild intercostal strain.
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde told reporters Wednesday that he’s “very, very optimistic” Henderson will be ready for Opening Day. The 23-year-old fantasy superstar has been held out of spring training contests recently due to lingering side discomfort, so it’s a massive relief that additional imaging didn’t reveal anything serious. He’s a first-round selection in all fantasy drafts this spring on the heels of last year’s 37-homer, 21-steal performance.

Andrew Kittredge will get a second opinion after undergoing an MRI on his left knee.
Kittredge has been dealing with left knee soreness and inflammation. It typically isn’t an encouraging development when a player is seeking multiple opinions. There should be an update on his status at some point in the coming days. The 34-year-old right-hander is expected to operate in a setup role this season in his Orioles debut.
  • BOS Starting Pitcher #35
Garrett Crochet fanned seven in three scoreless innings as the Red Sox took down the Rays 4-2 on Wednesday.
Crochet hit 101 mph twice on the stadium gun, though he didn’t believe he was throwing quite that hard. “I think that was a misread,” he said. “I was feeling and I know it was coming out well, but I don’t think it was that well.” Crochet has struck out 14 in 6 1/3 scoreless innings this spring.
  • BOS Relief Pitcher #31
Liam Hendriks gave up four hits and a run in his inning against the Rays on Wednesday.
The inning ended on a baserunning miscue after the fourth single. There still hasn’t been any Statcast data for Hendriks, since all of his appearances have come in home games. He’s thus far given up four runs and eight hits in three innings, and as early as it is, that doesn’t seem to bode well. If Hendriks fails to secure closing duties in Boston, then Aroldis Chapman could open up in the role. Ideally, Justin Slater or Garrett Whitlock would prove ready to step in at some point.
  • TB Relief Pitcher #63
Edwin Uceta allowed a run on two hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning Wednesday against the Red Sox.
Uceta was perfect in his first two appearances, but he was pulled before he could get a third out today. It’s a little misstep as he tries to overtake Pete Fairbanks for save chances in the Rays pen.
  • BOS Shortstop #28
Kristian Campbell went 0-for-2 off the bench against the Rays on Wednesday.
Campbell is 1-for-17 with nine strikeouts through eight games, dimming his chances of opening up as Boston’s second baseman. The Red Sox are still being tight-lipped on the Alex Bregman-Rafael Devers situation, but with Bregman yet to play second base in a game, it would seem to be becoming more likely that the Red Sox open up with a David Hamilton-Romy Gonzalez platoon at second. Vaughn Grissom remains in the mix as well.
  • MIL Starting Pitcher #37
Brewers placed LHP DL Hall on the 60-day injured list.
Hall’s placement on the 60-day injured list opens a spot on the 40-man roster for Jose Quintana. Hall has been out with a lat strain and hasn’t thrown since the middle of February, and he won’t be able to rejoin the Brew Crew pitching staff until the end of May.
  • MIL Starting Pitcher #62
Brewers signed LHP Jose Quintana to a one-year, $4.25 million contract with a mutual option for 2026.
Quintana joins the Brewers after spending 2024 with the Mets, and he was a solid backend option for New York as seen in a 3.75 ERA. He’ll pitch in the middle of the Milwaukee rotation, and he offers streaming potential against all but the upper-echelon lineup in 2025.
  • MIN Relief Pitcher #48
Justin Topa left Wednesday’s Grapefruit League appearance with an apparent injury.
Topa threw just six pitches, with the last being a slider that clocked at just 79 mph. The right-hander was limited to just 2 1/3 innings last year because of a knee injury. There should be an update on Topa’s status soon.
