Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports that Hirokazu Sawamura is still looking for MLB opportunities rather than a return to Japan.
The right-hander registered a 3.73 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, and 40 strikeouts across 50 2/3 innings with the Red Sox during the 2022 season. He should be able to find an opportunity somewhere, even if he has to settle for a minor league deal with a spring training invite.

Brent Rooker is absent from the Athletics’ lineup for the first time this season on Thursday night against the Rangers.
If you’re going to have to sit out a game, doing so against Jacob deGrom makes plenty of sense. Seth Brown will function as the A’s designated hitter on Thursday evening and will bat sixth against the Rangers’ right-hander.
Giants' Doval could provide fantasy insurance
Eric Samulski weighs in on Camilo Doval and why the former National League saves leader could provide fantasy insurance for struggling San Francisco Giants closer Ryan Walker.
  • ATH Left Fielder #22
Miguel Andujar is not in the Athletics’ starting lineup for Thursday night’s showdown against the Rangers.
It’s the second straight game that Andujar has found himself on the pine, coinciding with the promotion of Nick Kurtz from Triple-A. It looks like he’s going to see the biggest negative impact there in terms of playing time, which is frustrating for fantasy managers who may be relying on him. The 30-year-old has hit .319/.360/.435 with one homer and nine RBI through his first 75 plate appearances on the season.
  • KC Catcher #13
Salvador Perez doubled twice and drove in two runs as the Royals topped the Rockies 7-4 in the first game of Thursday’s doubleheader.
On the short list of the game’s unluckiest hitters this season, Perez entered today with a .185 average and a .293 slugging percentage that were way, way lower than his .283 xBA and .559 xSLG. He has 11 barrels and two home runs. Today’s line-drive doubles left his bat at 106 and 102 mph. He’s back in the lineup for the second game as a DH after catching the first game this afternoon.
  • KC Relief Pitcher #53
Carlos Estévez pitched a perfect ninth with a three-run lead for a save against the Rockies in the first game of Thursday’s doubleheader.
Estévez took a blown save against his old team on Tuesday, but he had no issues today. After throwing 12 pitches in the first game, he might be available against in the second game. If not, Daniel Lynch IV could be the choice to close, since Lucas Erceg also pitched in the first game.
  • COL Starting Pitcher #48
Germán Márquez was tagged for six runs in four innings by the Royals in a loss Thursday, dropping him to 0-4 on the season.
Márquez reached 1,000 career strikeouts today, but that was the lone highlight for the 30-year-old. He has a 9.30 ERA through five starts, only one of which has come at Coors Field. The Rockies will surely stick with him, though. He’ll make his next start at home against the Braves.
  • COL Catcher #15
Hunter Goodman went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI in the first game of Thursday’s doubleheader against the Royals.
Goodman started at catcher for the first time in 10 days and hit his first homer in 10 days. Maybe it’s just a coincidence, but he’s 11-for-40 with four homers and three doubles in his 11 games as a catcher this season, compared to 7-for-32 with no extra-base hits in nine games as a DH. Goodman is in the lineup as a DH for the second game this afternoon.
  • COL Left Fielder #27
Jordan Beck went 2-for-3 and homered against the Royals in the first game of Thursday’s doubleheader.
Beck took Cole Ragans deep in the second inning for his first homer in 13 major league games this season, and in so doing, might have earned himself another start; he’s in the lineup against a righty in the second game of the doubleheader. Beck is 4-for-13 in four games since he was recalled Saturday.
  • CWS Relief Pitcher #64
Shane Smith twirled five scoreless innings with seven strikeouts as the White Sox beat the Twins 3-0 in a rain-shortened affair Thursday.
The game was delayed after the seventh concluded and never resumed. It’s yet another solid outing for Smith, and the fact that the White Sox were able to get him in the Rule 5 draft just adds to the impressiveness. The 25-year-old scattered four hits with one walk, and he generated 12 swings and misses over his 82 offerings. Smith is a tough sell as a fantasy hurler because he plays on the White Sox and he isn’t going to get super deep into games, but he’s worthy of keeping an eye on. He’ll try and keep the good run going against the Brewers next week.
  • CWS Relief Pitcher #53
Brandon Eisert pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh to get a save against the Twins in a rain-shortened game Thursday.
It’s fitting that the White Sox’s first save in 25 games of the year came from a pitcher who had no idea he’d be in line for one. It was actually the first time this season that Eisert entered with a lead in a non-blowout situation; his previous eight appearances had seen him enter with the White Sox behind six times and then ahead by nine and 10 runs in the other two. He has a 4.76 ERA in 11 1/3 innings. The White Sox bullpen should continue to be avoided in fantasy leagues.
  • MIN Starting Pitcher #20
Chris Paddack allowed two runs over five innings while picking up a loss Thursday to the White Sox.
Paddack was able to strike out five, but he issued four walks and threw just 57 of his 99 pitches for strikes. The right-hander issued one of those free passes with the bases loaded in the fourth, and his other run allowed came on a solo homer by Lenyn Sosa. Paddack wasn’t horrible, but it’s fair to say he was fortunate to limit the damage to just two runs, and also fortunate to be facing the White Sox. He shouldn’t be started against the Guardians next week.
