Reds optioned RHP Raynel Espinal to Triple-A Louisville.
Espinal allowed one earned run over 2 1/3 innings of relief on Tuesday night against the Pirates and took the loss. It was just the second career major league appearance for the 30-year-old Dominican right-hander.

Max Scherzer (thumb) pitched a live bullpen session Friday.
Scherzer faced hitters for the first time since he was placed on the injured list with his thumb issue. The right-hander will now need to see how he responds to the session, but this and a 45-pitch bullpen session Monday suggest that he’s closing in on a rehab assignment.
Smith-Shawver put on 60-day IL with elbow injury
James Schiano discusses the Atlanta Braves pitching depth getting tested this season after the team placed talented right-handed starting pitcher AJ Smith-Shawver on the 60-day IL with an apparent elbow injury.
  • LAA 3rd Baseman #5
Yoán Moncada (knee) is not in the lineup for Friday’s game against the Guardians.
Moncada left Wednesday’s game against the Yankees with knee soreness, and he’ll miss at least one more game with the injury. Luis Rengifo will move over to third base, with Scott Kingery getting the start at second base in Moncada’s absence.
  • CLE Center Fielder #38
Steven Kwan (wrist) is leading off and playing left field against the Angels on Friday.
Kwan returns after leaving Wednesday’s game against the Dodgers with right wrist inflammation, but it appears that exit was precautionary. He returns to the leadoff role, and fantasy managers who roster Kwan can breath a sign of releif.
  • BOS Relief Pitcher #68
Red Sox recalled RHP Nick Burdi from Triple-A Worcester.
Burdi is up to replace Liam Hendriks (hip) on the active roster. The 32-year-old will be a low-leverage option in his time with the Red Sox.
  • BOS Relief Pitcher #31
Red Sox placed RHP Liam Hendriks on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 28, with right hip inflammation.
Hendriks, 36, will need to miss at least two weeks, but there’s a good chance this will be a longer stint on the shelf than the minimum 15 days. The right-hander will be out of action and replaced by Nick Burdi on the active roster.
  • LAA Center Fielder #27
Angels activated OF Mike Trout off the 10-day injured list.
Welcome back, Mike. Trout has been out since late April with a bone bruise, but the future Hall of Famer is back and should return to an everyday role with the Angels The plan is for him to mostly play at designated hitter to begin his time back, but then will move back to the outfield. Trout was hitting just .179 before the injury, but the power was there, and he should be able to contribute in a few categories as long as he can stay on the field.
  • KC Relief Pitcher #60
Royals placed RHP Lucas Erceg on the 15-day injured list with a lower back sprain.
Erceg has been unavailable for the past couple of days, and the Royals won’t place short-handed. He’ll be out of commission until June, and in the meantime the Royals will have Seth Lugo (finger) back in the rotation.
  • KC Relief Pitcher #67
Royals activated RHP Seth Lugo off the 15-day injured list.
Lugo is up to make a start against the Tigers after missing a couple of weeks with a finger sprain. The 35-year-old should remain a solid — if unspectacular — fantasy option, and returns to a 3.02 ERA and 1.09 WHIP over his 56 2/3 innings over nine starts.
  • PHI 1st Baseman #3
Bryce Harper (elbow) told reporters Friday he was “unsure” when he would play again.
Harper has been sidelined because of of selling his elbow, and he told reporters that it still feels “super sore.” A trip to the injured list appears to be a last resort, but it can’t be completely ruled out. Fantasy managers should be prepared to replace Harper on their roster in the coming days, just in case.
  • MIN Right Fielder #38
Matt Wallner (hamstring) is expected to return to the Twins on Saturday.
Wallner is on the injured list since the middle of April with his hamstring strain, but the 27-year-old has been performing well in his rehab assignment, and will be a power-hitting option in the Minnesota outfield upon his return.
