Robert Gsellman haș signed a contract with the Yokohama BayStars of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball.
Gsellman was released by the Cubs last month after making eight relief appearances this season in the majors. The 29-year-old former top prospect will aim to rebuild his value overseas in Japan for the remainder of the 2022 season.

  • KC Starting Pitcher #30

Kyle Wright (shoulder) threw two innings earlier this week in an extended spring training game in Arizona.
Strong early-season performances by Kris Bubic and Michael Lorenzen have reduced the urgency for Kansas City to get Wright back up to full speed quickly. The 29-year-old righty will continue ramping up in Arizona and should be an option for Kansas City’s pitching staff at some point next month, if not sooner.
  • NYM Center Fielder #19
Jose Siri was removed from Saturday’s game against the Athletics with a left shin contusion.
Siri is day-to-day, according to a team statement. We’re assuming he underwent precautionary X-rays after fouling a ball off his lower left leg during the early stages of Saturday’s contest in Sacramento. It’s an encouraging initial diagnosis and there’s a chance he’ll avoid a trip to the injured list.
  • COL Center Fielder #9
Brenton Doyle is not in the lineup for Saturday’s showdown against the Padres.
This is highly unusual. Doyle will take a seat for the second straight contest with Tyler Freeman patrolling center field and Ezequiel Tovar occupying the leadoff spot. It’s unclear at the moment whether he’s dealing with an injury or lingering physical issue. He’s arguably been the club’s best hitter this season, batting .321 (17-for-53) with three homers, 12 RBI and one steal through 12 contests, and the Padres are throwing lefty Kyle Hart. It’s a developing situation fantasy managers should monitor closely.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #21
Earning him win No. 1 as a major leaguer, Jackson Jobe pitched two-hit ball for six innings in the Tigers’ 4-0 shutout of the Twins on Saturday.
Jobe’s best start to date still featured just two strikeouts, eight missed swings and a 24% CWS. However, he was never really threated by the Twins while allowing just two singles. It’d definitely be nice to see him miss more bats, but the talent remains obvious, and in such a good situation for pitchers in Detroit, he probably won’t need to fan a batter an inning in order to offer some mixed-league value.
  • MIN Starting Pitcher #20
Chris Paddack allowed two runs — one earned — over five innings Saturday in a loss to the Tigers.
It was easily Paddack’s best effort in three starts, but it didn’t prevent him from falling to 0-2 with a 9.49 ERA. Even with Pablo López on the IL, Paddack is hanging on to a rotation spot by a thread. It doesn’t help that the Twins are 4-11 overall and seemingly in need of some sort of shakeup. If that fails to come, Paddack should start against the Braves next weekend.
  • DET 1st Baseman #20
Spencer Torkelson went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and a sac fly against the Twins on Saturday.
As the lone righty sandwiched in between four lefties, Torkelson got to face the newly recalled Kody Funderburk in the sixth inning today and homered off him. It was his fourth long ball in 62 plate appearances this season. He’s definitely not going to keep on hitting .314 — this is a guy with a .236 average in 133 career Triple-A games — but the nice power numbers seem likely to stick around.
  • MIN 3rd Baseman #64
Jose Miranda singled in his lone at-bat off the bench Saturday, only to be erased on a baserunning blunder afterwards.
As much as the Twins are struggling at the moment, the blunder will likely be remembered. After Miranda’s single, Christian Vázquez hit an easy grounder to first that Spencer Torkelson handled and threw to second on. Miranda should have been retired easily, except that Colt Keith was in front of the bag and failed to find it with his back foot. The umpire correctly called Miranda safe, but Miranda assumed he was out and started to return to the dugout, allowing Keith to tag him. It probably didn’t decide the outcome in a 4-0 loss, but it was a bad look from a player hitting just .167/.167/.250 in 36 plate appearances. Miranda, who has started only one of the last four games, is a candidate to be sent down when Brooks Lee returns.
  • LAD 1st Baseman #5
Freddie Freeman is at first base and batting third on Saturday against the Cubs.
Freeman went 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts on Friday in his return to Los Angeles’ lineup following a nearly two-week absence recovering from a right ankle sprain. It’s an encouraging sign for the Dodgers, and fantasy managers, that the veteran first baseman is feeling well enough physically to play back-to-back contests right out of the gate.
  • LAA Shortstop #9
Angels manager Ron Washington told reporters Zach Neto (shoulder) will play nine innings at shortstop next week at Triple-A Salt Lake.
Neto is batting .313 (10-for-32) with three homers and one steal through 10 games on his minor league rehab assignment as he completes his rehabilitation from last year’s shoulder surgery. The 24-year-old continues to make steady progress from a defensive standpoint, gradually ramping up his workload at shortstop, and doesn’t appear too far off from making his season debut at some point in mid-to-late April.
  • NYM Center Fielder #19
Jose Siri left Saturday’s game against the Athletics after fouling a ball off his lower left leg.
Siri remained on the ground for several minutes before limping off the field. He’ll presumably head for precautionary X-rays to rule out any fractures. There should be an update on his status shortly. His absence would be problematic for New York since he’s been one of their primary center field options along with Tyrone Taylor.
