Nationals sent OF Donovan Casey outright to Triple-A Rochester.
Casey was designated for assignment on Tuesday and passed through waivers unclaimed. He’ll return right back to Rochester, where he’s slashed .219/.283/.364 with six homers and six steals in 67 games this year.

Padres selected the contract of RHP Logan Gillaspie from Triple-A El Paso.
  • MIA Catcher #4
Nick Fortes is again out of the Marlins lineup Sunday due to neck stiffness.
Fortes hasn’t played since Tuesday, though Saturday was the first time an injury was noted. Liam Hicks is making his fourth straight start today.
  • PHI Third Baseman #28
Alec Bohm is sitting for the first time this season Sunday against the Dodgers.
Bohm is off to a cold start with his torpedo bat, but Statcast thinks he’s been extremely unlucky, giving him a .318 xBA and a .516 xSLG with his three barrels and 57% hard-hit rate. His actual line is .200/.222/.229 with no homers in 36 plate appearances. Edmundo Sosa is filling in at third today.
  • TOR Right Fielder #4
George Springer (back) is out of the Blue Jays’ lineup on Sunday.
Springer did some pre-game work and appeared to be in good spirits, according to MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson. The 35-year-old outfielder left Saturday’s game with back spasms after hitting the right field wall trying to chase down a fly ball. While Springer isn’t in the lineup Sunday, he should be able to avoid a stint on the injured list and return to the lineup soon.
  • LAD Third Baseman #13
Max Muncy is in Sunday’s lineup against the Phillies’ Cristopher Sánchez after sitting the previous two times the Dodgers faced lefties.
That means Miguel Rojas is out of the lineup against a lefty for the first time this year. Muncy offers very little ability to hit for average versus southpaws at this stage of his career, but he still gets his walks and homers. The bigger factor in sitting him is that Rojas is the better defender at third base. He’s not a strict platoon guy just yet, though.
  • BOS Right Fielder #52
Wilyer Abreu is out of Boston’s lineup for Game 1 of the doubleheader, but he will start the second game Sunday night.
The Red Sox still haven’t said what’s wrong with Abreu, who was scratched from Saturday’s lineup before the game was postponed. Rob Refsnyder is in right field for the first game today.
  • STL Left Fielder #33
Brendan Donovan is out of the Cardinals lineup for the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader against the Red Sox.
It’s the first time this season that he’s sat. He’ll surely be back in there for the nightcap, but the recently recalled Thomas Saggese will get the nod against a lefty this afternoon.
  • MIL Relief Pitcher #73
Brewers recalled LHP Grant Wolfram from Triple-A Nashville.
Wolfram is set to make his MLB debut if he appears in a game on this stint. The 28-year-old left-hander will serve as bullpen depth. He takes the spot of starter Nestor Cortes, who was placed on the 15-day injured list with an elbow injury. The Brewers will need another starting pitcher at some point soon and Wolfram could be headed back to the minors then.
  • WSH Center Fielder #17
Alex Call is starting over Jacob Young for a second straight day Sunday.
Call didn’t get an at-bat in the Nationals’ first four games, but he started three of the last four and went 4-for-8 with two RBI and two walks. Dylan Crews is good enough in center that it seems the Nationals have decided they can go with the hot hand here and take Young out of the lineup, with Call starting in right.
  • ARI Center Fielder #31
Jake McCarthy is on the bench again Sunday for the third time in four days.
That’s even though the D-backs are facing a righty. Alek Thomas seems to have overtaken McCarthy as the team’s preferred option in center. He’s the better defender and probably also the superior hitter when healthy. McCarthy’s speed gives him mixed-league value when he’s playing regularly, but he seems droppable right now.
