  • MLB Outfield #37

    Phillies released OF Odúbel Herrera.
It’s surprising Herrera lasted as long as he did in Philadelphia, especially this season. The 30-year-old outfielder holds a pedestrian career .271/.326/.419 triple-slash line with 78 homers and 68 steals in 817 games since 2015.

  • HOU Shortstop #28

Brice Matthews is at second base and batting ninth on Saturday against the Rangers.
Matthews went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts on Friday in his major-league debut. The 23-year-old shortstop was Houston’s first-round pick in the 2023 MLB Draft and does offer some power/speed combo potential in deeper mixed leagues. He’s going to face an adjustment period as he acclimates to everyday life in the big leagues, but he’s going to get some runway with Jeremy Peña (rib) on the shelf in addition to injuries to Luis Guillorme (hamstring) and Brendan Rodgers (oblique).
Players to watch in MLB All-Star Futures Game
James Schiano spotlights the rising stars to watch in this weekend's 2025 All-Star Futures Game in Atlanta.
  • SD Relief Pitcher #37
Padres recalled RHP Alek Jacob from Triple-A El Paso.
Jacob gets the call to rejoin San Diego’s relief mix ahead of Saturday evening’s contest against the Phillies. The 27-year-old righty posted an underwhelming 6.94 ERA across 23 1/3 innings (22 appearances) earlier this season in the big leagues.
  • SD Relief Pitcher #38
Padres optioned RHP Ryan Bergert to Triple-A El Paso.
Bergert struck out seven and allowed two runs over 4 2/3 innings on Friday against the Phillies in his return from the injured list. San Diego isn’t going to need a fifth start coming out of the All-Star break, so they’ll use his roster spot to fortify their bullpen mix.
  • WSH Right Fielder #3
Dylan Crews (oblique) took on-field batting practice for the second straight day on Saturday at Nationals Park.
There isn’t an official return timetable from the Nationals. However, Crews appears to be progressing towards kicking off a minor league rehab assignment in the near future and figures to be ready to rejoin Washington’s lineup by the end of July. The 23-year-old top prospect hit the injured list back in mid-May with a left oblique strain.
  • HOU Starting Pitcher #53
Cristian Javier (elbow) began a minor league rehab assignment on Saturday in the Rookie-level Florida Complex League.
Javier is aiming to rejoin Houston’s rotation at some point in the second half, most likely in mid-August, after undergoing Tommy John surgery last year. The 28-year-old righty will need several weeks in the minors to continue building up his pitch count and stamina before making his season debut.
  • TB Starting Pitcher #57
Rays manager Kevin Cash told reporters Drew Rasmussen will start the fifth game coming out of the All-Star break.
Cash added that Rasmussen will be back to a five-inning workload in that outing against the White Sox. Tampa Bay is building in some extra rest for the 29-year-old, who was limited to just two innings in his previous start back on July 6, in an effort to limit his innings total during his return from the third elbow surgery of his career. It sounds like Joe Boyle will continue operating in a bulk relief role while Rasmussen has a governor on his workload.
  • NYM Relief Pitcher #72
Dedniel Núñez will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery.
Núñez will undergo his second career Tommy John surgery after hitting the shelf last week with a right elbow sprain. Given the timing of the procedure, the hard-throwing 29-year-old could wind up missing the entire 2026 season.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #54
Max Fried was removed from Saturday’s start against the Cubs with a blister on his left index finger.
Fried was lifted from his final first-half start after allowing four runs — three earned — on 73 pitches (39 strikes) over three innings. He struck out two and also issued three walks. The 31-year-old fantasy ace will certainly benefit from next week’s All-Star break, but blister issues tend to be complicated matters and usually require rest before they can be truly resolved. The hope here for the Yankees and fantasy managers is that they managed to catch it before the issue became a greater concern. He’s made four trips to the injured list over the last eight years due to blister issues. There should be a definitive update on his status and outlook at some point later this weekend. We’ll have updates on the developing situation as it unfolds.
  • ATL Right Fielder #13
Ronald Acuña Jr. is batting third on Saturday against the Cardinals.
It’s the first time Acuña has been moved out of the leadoff spot since making his season debut back in late May. The move might lead to a decrease in stolen base opportunities, if it becomes permanent, but that would be offset by an uptick in RBI chances over the final two-plus months. It’ll be Jurickson Profar leading off on Saturday afternoon at Busch Stadium.
  • BAL 1st Baseman #6
Ryan Mountcastle (hamstring) will begin a minor league rehab assignment later this month.
Mountcastle won’t come off the 60-day injured list until late July, but he’s going to get back into game action starting on July 22. The 28-year-old first baseman is working his way back from a hamstring strain that put him on the shelf back in late May.
