  • MLB Relief Pitcher #69
Diamondbacks designated RHP Ryan Weiss for assignment.
Weiss was waived to make space for Dallas Keuchel on the 40-man roster. The 25-year-old right-hander has yet to make his major league debut. He recorded a 7.45 ERA, 2.17 WHIP, and ten strikeouts over 9 2/3 innings in Triple-A.

  • HOU Starting Pitcher #41
The Astros will have Spencer Arrighetti available out of the bullpen this weekend against the Guardians.
Arrighetti is lined up to start Sunday, but the Astros want to treat him as a reliever instead and line him up to be used that way in the postseason. They’re likely looking at Framber Valdez, Yusei Kikuchi, Ronel Blanco and Hunter Brown as their postseason starters.
  • WAS Starting Pitcher #79
Nationals recalled RHP Jackson Rutledge from Triple-A Rochester.
Rutledge finished strong for the Red Wings, pitching 13 scoreless innings in his final two starts. Overall, though, he had a 6.40 ERA and walked 77 over 122 1/3 innings in Triple-A. One imagines he’ll be in some danger of getting DFA’d or non-tendered this winter. First, though, he’ll get to spend the final weekend in the bullpen.
  • WAS Starting Pitcher #74
Nationals optioned LHP DJ Herz to the FCL Nationals.
The Nats want an extra arm, so Herz, who made his final start Wednesday, won’t get to finish his rookie season on the active roster.
  • TOR Second Baseman #36
David Schneider is on the Blue Jays bench Friday for the fourth time in five games.
The Jays are taking a look at Nathan Lukes in the outfield, leaving no room in left for Schneider of late. Schneider started seven straight games from Sept. 14-21, including four games in left, but he’s played just once, that at second base, this week.
  • NYY Right Fielder #99
Even though he’s homered in five straight games, Aaron Judge is getting a rest day Friday against the Pirates.
The Yankees are also sitting Giancarlo Stanton and letting Juan Soto DH tonight, giving them an outfield of Jasson Domínguez, Trent Grisham and Alex Verdugo. It’s just Grisham’s second start of the month.
  • MIN Relief Pitcher #55
Twins activated LHP Koby Funderburk from the 60-day injured list.
Funderburk had been out since July 21 with a strained oblique. He pitched in four rehab games before the Triple-A season ended, giving up eight runs in 5 1/3 innings. He’ll probably serve as the last man in the pen these final three days.
  • MIN Catcher #85
Twins optioned C Jair Camargo to Triple-A St. Paul.
For the second time this month, Camargo is getting sent down without appearing in a game during a brief stint with the Twins. He has four callups and seven plate appearances (0-for-6 with a walk) over the course of the year.
  • MIN Right Fielder #26
Twins transferred OF Max Kepler from the 15-day to the 60-day injured list.
Kepler’s knee just hasn’t responded the way the Twins hoped, and he’s going to enter free agency off a season in which he hit a modest .253/.302/.380 in 105 games. With his defense also seemingly on the decline, he’ll likely be viewed as a fallback option by most teams.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #51
Marlins placed RHP Declan Cronin on the 15-day injured list with left knee tendinitis.
The knee has been bothering for quite some time. Cronin finishes the year with a 4.35 ERA, but an ugly July weighs heavily there, and the fact that he allowed just one homer while posting a 72/25 K/BB in 70 1/3 innings is pretty encouraging. He should keep his spot and open next year back in the Marlins pen.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #55
Marlins activated RHP Mike Baumann from the paternity list.
Baumann has a 7.30 ERA in 10 relief appearances since the Marlins picked him up on waivers from the Angels. He’ll likely be dropped from the 40-man once the season is over.
