White Sox released OF Dwight Smith Jr.
Smith Jr. signed a minor league contract back in February and has been released after hitting .236/.300/.327 with one homer in 60 plate appearances at Triple-A Charlotte. The 29-year-old former top prospect last appeared in the majors with the Orioles during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.

Austin Hays believes he’s close to returning from his left foot contusion.
Hays thinks he’ll be back before the end of the current series against the Guardians. Connor Joe could be sent down to make room for him. Will Benson and Spencer Steer might both be in line to lose some playing time.
Harper lands on 10-day IL with wrist inflammation
Eric Samulski details the fantasy implications of Bryce Harper landing on the 10-day IL, and with no timetable for his return, managers in deeper formats could look to take a "gamble" on prospect Otto Kemp.
  • CIN Starting Pitcher #21
Hunter Greene has traveled to Los Angeles for a second opinion on his groin and back issues.
This seems like cause for concern. It’is definitely going to be a longer IL stay for Greene this time than when he missed two turns last month for the original groin injury.
  • COL Left Fielder #12
Rockies optioned OF Sean Bouchard to Triple-A Albuquerque.
Mickey Moniak will be activated from the bereavement list on Tuesday, so it’s back to Triple-A for Bouchard. He had one at-bat and grounded out in his two days with the Rockies.
  • CIN 1st Baseman #7
Spencer Steer is on the bench for Monday’s game against the Guardians.
Two days is the longest Terry Francona can go without playing Santiago Espinal, so Espinal is at third and Christian Encarnacion-Strand is at first tonight. Steer still hasn’t gotten hot any point, but he did reach five times and knock in two runs during the three-game series against the Diamondbacks over the weekend. Espinal is 1-for-29 in his last nine games.
  • PHI Relief Pitcher #48
Phillies optioned RHP Daniel Robert to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Robert didn’t get into a game during a two-day stint in the Phillies pen.
  • PHI Starting Pitcher #45
Phillies activated RHP Zack Wheeler from the paternity list.
After missing one full turn through the rotation, Wheeler is starting against the Cubs tonight.
  • STL Starting Pitcher #55
Cardinals recalled RHP Riley O’Brien from Triple-A Memphis.
O’Brien has been plenty effective in Triple-A this year, posting a 2.79 ERA and a 32/8 K/BB in 19 1/3 innings out of the Memphis bullpen, but he’s struggled to establish himself in the Cardinals pen. Since debuting last year, he has a 9.20 ERA with five homers allowed in 14 2/3 innings.
  • STL Relief Pitcher #58
Cardinals recalled RHP Chris Roycroft from Triple-A Memphis.
Roycroft will get another shot in the Cardinals pen in spite of his 8.49 ERA in 11 2/3 innings in Triple-A and 7.20 ERA in 10 innings in the majors this year.
  • STL Starting Pitcher #36
Cardinals optioned RHP Michael McGreevy to Triple-A Memphis.
McGreevy lost to the Dodgers after giving up four runs over six innings in his spot start Sunday. He’ll likely be back next time the Cardinals need a starter.
  • STL Relief Pitcher #49
Cardinals optioned RHP Matt Svanson to Triple-A Memphis.
This is Svanson’s reward for throwing 52 pitches and saving the rest of the Cardinals pen on Sunday. The 26-year-old had a 3.95 ERA in 13 2/3 innings in the majors.
