Josh Reddick has signed a one-year deal with the Perth Heat of the Australian Baseball League.
Reddick reached a deal in February with Acereros de Monclova of the Mexican League and has since batted .225 with a .642 OPS in 51 plate appearances. He’ll now eventually head over to Australia, though the ABL season does not begin until November. The 35-year-old outfielder is probably done in MLB-affiliated ball.

Astros manager Joe Espada told reporters on Sunday that Yordan Alvarez (hand) is continuing to make progress, but isn’t ready to be activated from the injured list.
Alvarez remains in a bit of a holding pattern, which is frustrating for fantasy managers eagerly awaiting his return. The 27-year-old fantasy superstar would be back in Houston’s lineup if he were feeling 100 percent, but that’s clearly not the case. At this juncture, it’s unclear how close he is to making it back, especially after he told reporters earlier this week that he was still dealing with some right hand soreness while swinging a bat. Hopefully there is some additional clarity on his status at some point in the coming days.
Top prospect Clarke to be called up by Athletics
Following the Atheltics' announcement that they are calling up prized outfield Denzel Clarke, James Schiano discusses what the toolsy prospect with "blazing speed" will bring to the pro level.
  • LAA Relief Pitcher #39
Angels recalled LHP Jake Eder from Triple-A Salt Lake.
Eder gives the Angels a fresh arm heading into Sunday’s series finale against the Athletics in Sacramento. The 26-year-old lefty has made three relief appearances this season for Los Angeles after being acquired from the White Sox back in late March.
  • LAA Starting Pitcher #36
Angels optioned RHP Caden Dana to Triple-A Salt Lake.
Dana was a highly-regarded pitching prospect for Los Angeles in the recent past, so it’s surprising to see him pitching in what amounts to mop-up duty. The 21-year-old righty returns to the minors after a one-day stint with the big-league club.
  • LAA Catcher #14
Logan O’Hoppe and Zach Neto are not in the lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Athletics.
It’s a routine off day for both O’Hoppe and Neto to close out a series in Sacramento. O’Hoppe has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball over the past week, batting .370 (10-for-27) with four homers over his last seven games. It’ll be Travis d’Arnaud handling the catching duties with Kevin Newman at shortstop.
  • KC 2nd Baseman #6
Jonathan India was scratched from Sunday’s lineup due to illness.
India becomes the latest player under the weather as an illness makes its way through Kansas City’s clubhouse. It’ll be Nick Loftin taking over in left field on Sunday afternoon.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #29
Tarik Skubal struck out 13 and pitched a shutout for his first career complete game Sunday in a 5-0 defeat of the Guardians.
Skubal needed just 94 pitches, the last of which was clocked at 102.6 mph and was his hardest of the game. He walked none and allowed only two hits: a double to Will Wilson in the sixth and a single to José Ramírez in the seventh. He generated 26 whiffs on 58 swings, including 14 on his changeup. The 13 strikeouts matched his career high. He had pitched more than seven innings just once before, when he completed eight against the Red Sox last August. He’s 5-2 with a 2.49 ERA ahead of a start next weekend against the Royals.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #26
Logan Allen surrendered five runs — four earned — and four walks over 3 2/3 innings Sunday in a loss to the Tigers.
Just an all-around hideous day from Allen, who twice made throwing errors on comebackers from Riley Greene. He’s now failed to complete five innings five times in 10 starts (one of those was due to a rain delay, though since he’d allowed two runs in three innings, he might not have finished five anyway). His 4.31 ERA isn’t so bad, but it’d certainly be worse if not for the quick hooks. His rotation spot would be in jeopardy if the Guardians decide Parker Messick is ready for a shot.
  • DET 2nd Baseman #39
Zack McKinstry hit a two-run homer off left-hander Logan Allen and walked in Sunday’s game against the Guardians.
The homer was just his second in 202 career plate appearances against lefties. McKinstry was a .205 hitter versus southpaws coming into the season, but he’s at .361 (17-for-47) right now. Righties, on the other hand, have been a problem for him lately; he came into the day with a .214/.263/.315 line overall in his previous 20 games and 76 plate appearances.
  • CLE Shortstop #13
Gabriel Arias went 0-for-4 and struck out three times against the Tigers’ Tarik Skubal on Sunday.
Arias had plenty of company in struggling against Skubal today, but this makes five straight hitless games for him. After a fine April in which he posted a .775 OPS, he’s 13-for-64 with no homers this month, dropping his OPS to .647. He might start losing some playing time against righties if this keeps up.
  • PIT Center Fielder #10
Bryan Reynolds is not in the lineup for Sunday’ game against the Brewers.
Reynolds is going to get some extra rest during Sunday’s series finale as he deals with some minor physical issues. The 30-year-old got off to an abysmal start this season at the plate, but he’s hitting .280 (7-for-25) with five RBI over his last seven games. It’ll be rookie Alexander Canario in right field in his absence.
