  • FA Relief Pitcher #62
    Dodgers released LHP Darien Núñez.
Núñez was designated for assignment last weekend and has been officially cut loose by the Dodgers. The 29-year-old left-hander, who is scheduled to undergo Tommy John elbow reconstructive surgery, made six relief appearances last year at the major-league level. He’s expected to miss the remainder of the 2022 campaign and be sidelined for a portion of the 2023 season as well.

  • HOU Relief Pitcher #66
Astros optioned RHP Shawn Dubin to Triple-A Sugar Land.
Dubin’s reward for collecting a save Saturday is an option to the minors. The 29-year-old could be a part of Astros pitching plans during the postseason, but it seems doubtful. Ryan Gusto was recalled in a corresponding transaction
  • PHI Second Baseman #19
Phillies recalled INF Buddy Kennedy from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Kennedy has played in seven games for the Phillies this season, going 2-for-10 with two RBI.
  • PHI Relief Pitcher #40
Phillies optioned LHP Tyler Gilbert to the FCL Phillies.
Gilbert made six appearances for the Phillies this season, allowing three runs in 8 1/3 innings.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #98
Padres optioned RHP Randy Vásquez to Triple-A El Paso.
Vásquez is getting bumped from the roster after throwing six scoreless innings against the Diamondbacks on Saturday to finish the season 4-7 with a 4.87 ERA in 20 starts.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #61
Padres recalled RHP Matt Waldron from Triple-A El Paso.
Even though everyone aside from Bryan Hoeing should be available in relief of Martín Pérez, the Padres felt they needed one more arm for Sunday’s game. Waldron had a 4.58 ERA in four starts after being demoted to El Paso. He isn’t likely to factor into the Padres’ postseason plans.
  • MIN Relief Pitcher #68
Twins selected the contract of RHP Randy Dobnak from Triple-A St. Paul.
Dobnak was DFA’d on Sept. 16 after allowing five runs in 7 2/3 innings for the Twins. He’ll be DFA’d again in the offseason, but since he’s still owed $3 million next year, he’ll remain with the organization.
  • MIN Relief Pitcher #62
Twins designated RHP Diego Castillo for assignment.
Castillo was recalled Saturday and allowed one run over two innings in the loss to the Orioles. He wound up with a 2.70 ERA in 10 innings for the Twins on the season.
  • NYY Relief Pitcher #38
Yankees activated RHP Mark Leiter Jr. from the paternity list.
Leiter takes the roster spot of Will Warren, who was sent down after Saturday’s game.
  • KC Starting Pitcher #55
The Royals will go with Cole Ragans, Seth Lugo and Michael Wacha as their Wild Card rotation.
They’ll be facing the Astros unless they win and the Tigers lose today, in which case they’d instead travel to Baltimore as the No. 5 seed. Ragans was originally scheduled to start today, but there’s no need for that with a spot clinched. Lugo threw just two innings Saturday to keep himself in line for the Game 2 start.
  • ARI Starting Pitcher #23
The Diamondbacks will have Zac Gallen available in relief of Brandon Pfaadt on Sunday, manager Torey Lovullo said.
Lovullo has worked his top relievers hard the last two days, so there will likely be need of Gallen on three days’ rest following his 11-strikeout gem against the Giants. The Diamondbacks pretty much have to win Sunday to have a chance of reaching the postseason. They technically could with a loss, but the Mets would have to lose three in a row in that case.
