Jon Heyman of MLB Network confirms that the Blue Jays have “checked in on” free agent outfielder Brett Gardner.
It would be weird to see Gardner playing anywhere outside of the Bronx, but the Yankees have seemingly moved on from the 38-year-old as he aims to log a 15th season in the majors. He slashed just .222/.327/.362 with 10 home runs and four stolen bases over 140 games (461 plate appearances) last summer for New York.

Logan Gilbert (elbow) is scheduled to throw a simulated game on Friday in Houston.
Fellow rehabbing rotation-mate Bryce Miller (shoulder) will join him in the session as well. The M’s rotation got a boost on Thursday as George Kirby made his season debut and it sounds like more reinforcements should be on the way soon. Barring any setbacks, it looks like Gilbert is on track to return at some point in early June.
Williams has 'taken off' for Guardians
Eric Samulski breaks down Gavin Williams' recent stretch of strong starts, explaining why the Cleveland Guardians pitcher needs to be picked up in all fantasy baseball leagues.
  • HOU Shortstop #3
Jeremy Peña tripled and drove in two runs in a win over the Mariners on Thursday.
Peña was also hit twice, both times by George Kirby. His two-run triple gave the Astros a 5-2 lead in a game that eventually became a blowout for Houston in the first game of the four-game set. Peña has driven in 25 runs even while hitting at the top of the lineup for the Astros, and he’s slashing a very respectable .298/.362/.447 to go with them.
  • SEA Shortstop #25
Dylan Moore homered in a blowout loss to the Astros on Thursday.
The man they call D-Mo gave Seattle a 2-0 lead in the second inning with a solo shot off Lance McCullers. That’d be the last run of the game for Seattle, but it did give Moore his eighth homer of the season. He’s been a very strong performer — particularly against left-handed pitchers — in 2025 with a .279 average, .852 OPS and eight stolen bases over 37 games. It doesn’t hurt that he can play multiple positions in a fantasy lineup, either.
  • HOU 2nd Baseman #27
Jose Altuve homered twice and drove in four runs in a 9-5 win over the Mariners on Thursday.
Altuve droe in his first run of May with a sac fly in the third inning off George Kirby. The party was just getting started from the former MVP, however. He blasted a solo homer off Eduard Bazardo, and then took Jesse Hahn deep with a runner on to make it an 8-2 lead for the Astros. Even with the pair of homers he’s still forged just a .666 OPS, but it’s certainly possible this is the beginning of a hot streak. Can’t guarantee it, but certainly possible.
  • HOU Starting Pitcher #43
Lance McCuller Jr. allowed two runs over 4 1/3 innings with eight strikeouts in a no-decision against the Mariners on Thursday.
McCullers left with a 5-2 lead, and there was visible frustration that he wasn’t able to get the final two outs in the fifth to get his first victory. He gave up runs in the first two innings, but he settled down nicely while generating an impressive 14 swings and misses over 91 pitches — 52 of those for strikes. There was plenty of hard contact to go with it, but this was progress. He’ll look to build on it and get that first win since 2022 against the Rays on Thursday.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #22
Bryan Woo (knee) is still expected to start on Saturday against the Astros after he was hit by a foul ball in the dugout during Thursday’s game.
It sounds like the initial injury scare was more severe than the actual diagnosis, as Woo was merely clipped by the ball in his lower leg around the knee. As long as he wakes up feeling fine on Friday and is able to go through his normal routine, there’s no reason to expect him not to take the ball against the Astros on Saturday.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #68
George Kirby went 3 2/3 innings and allowed five runs in a loss to the Astros on Thursday.
Kirby was making his first start of 2025 after missing the first two months with elbow inflammation, and he plunked Jeremy Peña to open the game. He was able to get through the first two innings scoreless, but he fell apart in his next two frames, giving up two in the third and three more in the fourth before exiting. That’s not ideal, but there were encouraging signs. He struck out four, and he generated a solid nine swings-and-misses over his 72 pitches. Kirby will try and get on track against the Nationals on Wednesday.
  • ATH Center Fielder #16
Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that the Athletics plan to promote top outfield prospect Denzel Clarke from Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday.
The Athletics are mired in a nine-game losing streak and looking to boost their offensive production, so they’ll give Clarke a shot to see what he can do. The 25-year-old was hitting .286/.436/.419 with zero homers, 21 RBI, seven stolen bases and a 29/23 K/BB ratio over 133 plate appearances at Triple-A Las Vegas. Clarke has played center field exclusively in 2025 which could wind up costing JJ Bleday some playing time. Expect this to be the corresponding move for Gio Urshela landing on the injured list on Friday.
  • SEA Center Fielder #44
Julio Rodríguez was scratched from the Mariners’ starting lineup on Thursday due to tightness in his back.
The 24-year-old superstar had his back tighten up on him during batting practice before Thursday’s battle against the Astros, so the Mariners took a cautious approach and held him out of the lineup. Mariners’ manager Dan Wilson told reporters after the game that Rodríguez is considered day-to-day. Still not sure why they couldn’t have said that before the game on Thursday, but fantasy managers can now breathe a major sigh of relief.
  • MIL Right Fielder #22
Christian Yelich went 2-for-3 with a pair of homers and four RBI on Thursday night, powering the Brewers to an 8-5 victory over the Pirates in Pittsburgh.
Yelich got the Brewers started in a hurry in this one, clubbing a 356-foot (101.4 mph EV) three-run shot off of Pirates’ rookie right-hander Mike Burrows in the opening inning, giving the Brewers a 3-0 lead that they would never relinquish. He added to that lead in the sixth inning with a monstrous 415-foot (110.7 mph EV) solo shot off of Isaac Mattson that made it a 5-2 ballgame. He was also walked intentionally in the eighth inning and scored on a two-out two-run single by Sal Frelick. He has started to pick up the pace after a painfully slow start to the season, slashing .192/.285/.363 with nine homers, 30 RBI and eight stolen bases.
