Angels signed RHP Jonathan Aro to a minor league contract.
Aro last appeared in the big leagues back in 2016 with the Mariners. The 31-year-old righty hasn’t pitched in the minors since the 2019 season. He spent the 2021 season with a pair of teams in the Mexican League. He’ll get a shot at Triple-A Salt Lake with the Angels this season.

Julio Rodríguez blasted a go-ahead two-run homer in the sixth inning on Sunday, powering the Mariners to a 2-1 victory over the visiting Athletics.
The Mariners couldn’t get anything done against JP Sears through the first five innings until Victor Robles legged out an infield single with one out in the sixth inning. That’s when Rodríguez strolled to the dish and clobbered a first-pitch slider for a gargantuan 438-foot (113.3 mph EV) two-run blast that put the M’s ahead for good. The 24-year-old superstar finished the afternoon 1-for-3 and is hitting .167 (2-for-12) with a homer, two RBI and a pair of stolen bases through his first four games.

Victor Robles went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and a run scored as the Mariners eked out a victory over the Athletics on Sunday.
Robles legged out an infield single off of JP Sears in the sixth inning and then rode home on a go-ahead two-run blast by Julio Rodriguez. The 27-year-old speedster is now 3-for-15 (.200) with a run scored and an RBI through his first four games. He has yet to attempt a stolen base.

Andres Muñoz slammed the door on the Athletics in the ninth inning on Sunday, protecting a one-run lead to earn his second save of the season.
It wasn’t quite automatic, as Muñoz did allow a one-out single to Tyler Soderstrom, he rallied though to get Jacob Wilson to bounce into a fielder’s choice and then punched out Gio Urshela to end it. With all of the instability in bullpens around the league, it’s nice to see Muñoz convert each of his first two save chances with a pair of scoreless frames and three strikeouts.
  • TOR Right Fielder #4
George Springer went 2-for-4 with a two-run single on Sunday, propelling the Blue Jays to a 3-1 win over the Orioles.
Springer struggled through an abysmal spring training at the dish, so it’s a positive development to see some signs of life in the early stages of the regular season. The 35-year-old veteran outfielder put Toronto ahead for good during Sunday’s low-scoring affair with a two-run single to right-center field against Orioles starter Tomoyuki Sugano, which wound up being enough run support for Chris Bassitt and the Blue Jays’ relief corps.
  • BAL Left Fielder #17
Colton Cowser went 1-for-4 on Sunday in a loss to the Blue Jays.
There’s no reason for fantasy managers to panic, but Cowser finishes Baltimore’s season-opening series hitting .125 (2-for-16) with one homer in three games. It’s not quite a buy-low opportunity or anything close to that yet, but we’re expecting the 25-year-old outfielder to turn things around shortly. He’s certainly set up for success as the Orioles’ primary table-setter atop a loaded lineup.
  • TOR Relief Pitcher #23
Jeff Hoffman tossed a perfect ninth inning on Sunday against the Orioles, protecting a two-run lead for his first save of the season.
Hoffman was summoned to guard a two-run lead in the final frame and required only 18 pitches (12 strikes) to extinguish any hope of an Orioles comeback. The 32-year-old righty appears locked in as Toronto’s closer and might end up being one of the better values at the position when the year is over.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #40
Chris Bassitt struck out seven and allowed one run over six innings on Sunday in a win over the Orioles.
Bassitt uncorked a wild pitch in the opening frame, which allowed an early run to cross the plate, but he was masterful from that point onwards, limiting the Orioles to just seven hits and a pair of walks over five shutout frames. The 36-year-old veteran offers a ton of appeal for fantasy managers as a back-end rotation stabilizer. He’ll face off against the Mets on Saturday in his next outing.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #22
Bryan Woo was terrific in Sunday afternoon’s victory over the Athletics, allowing just one run on three hits across his six innings of work.
The 25-year-old right-hander punched out five batters on the afternoon while issuing a pair of free passes. The lone tally against him came on a solo shot off the bat of Tyler Soderstrom in the fourth inning. Woo generated 10 swings and misses on just 76 pitches in the contest — seven of those on his fastball which averaged 95.1 mph — while registering a CSW of 24 percent. He’ll attempt to keep the good times rolling when he squares off against the Giants in San Francisco on Saturday.
  • ATH First Baseman #21
Tyler Soderstrom blasted his third home run of the season on Sunday afternoon, but it wasn’t enough to lead the Athletics to victory over the Mariners.
The 23-year-old slugger opened the scoring in Sunday’s game with a 366-foot (99.2 mph EV) solo shot off of Mariners’ right-hander Bryan Woo in the fourth inning. That would wind up being the extent of the A’s offense in the ballgame. Soderstrom also drew a walk and singled in the contest, finishing the afternoon 1-for-3. He has been red hot to start the 2025 season, hitting .467 with three homers and four RBI through his first four games.
  • ATH Starting Pitcher #38
JP Sears logged a quality start in Sunday’s loss to the Mariners, racking up seven strikeouts across 6 2/3 innings of two-run baseball.
Sears scattered four hits on the afternoon and didn’t allow a base on balls. In what turned out to be a tremendous pitcher’s duel between Sears and Mariners’ right-hander Bryan Woo, the M’s finally broke through as Julio Rodriguez clubbed a go-ahead two-run homer with one out in the sixth inning. That was all the damage done against Sears, but it was enough to stick him with the loss. The 29-year-old southpaw got 11 whiffs on 79 pitches on the day, posting a strong CSW of 35 percent. He’ll draw a difficult assignment his next time out, taking on the Rockies in Colorado on Saturday.
