Buck Showalter is interviewing for the Mets’ managerial vacancy on Wednesday, per Joel Sherman of the New York Post.
He’ll do so virtually on Zoom. There are at least six known candidates for the managerial opening in Queens, and Sherman hears that the plan is to whittle the list down to two or three names ahead of face-to-face interviews -- and perhaps a final decision -- next week. Showalter, 65, has served as the manager for four different major league teams (Yankees, Diamondbacks, Rangers, and Orioles) over parts of 20 seasons. He’s been working in baseball broadcasting the last couple of years.

Reds transferred RHP Carson Spiers from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.
It’s a procedural move that creates room on the 40-man roster for Garrett Hampson after Hampson signed Friday. The 27-year-old will be eligible to come off the injured list June 20, but there’s no timetable for when the right-hander will be ready after suffering a shoulder impingement late in April.
Williams has 'taken off' for Guardians
Eric Samulski breaks down Gavin Williams' recent stretch of strong starts, explaining why the Cleveland Guardians pitcher needs to be picked up in all fantasy baseball leagues.
  • CIN Right Fielder #57
Reds optioned INF Rece Hinds to Triple-A Louisville.
Hinds gets sent down after the Reds signed Garrett Hampson to a one-year deal prior to Friday’s game against the Cubs. The 24-year-old struck out 10 times in his 19 at-bats with the Reds, and picked up only three hits in that timeframe.
  • CIN 2nd Baseman #8
Red signed INF/OF Garrett Hampson to a one-year contract.
Hampson was released Tuesday by the Diamondbacks, and it didn’t take him long to find a new home. The 30-year-old will provide versatility for the Cincinnati bench, but he won’t provide that same type of value for fantasy teams.
  • CIN Starting Pitcher #21
Reds activated RHP Hunter Greene off the 15-day injured list.
Greene will make the start Friday against the Cubs. The hard-throwing 25-year-old has missed a little over two weeks with a Grade 1 groin strain, and while he may have a limited pitch count since he didn’t go on a rehab assignment, he’s still worthy of consideration because of his ability to miss bats. He’s obviously someone you have to have in fantasy lineups in the coming weeks.
  • SEA Relief Pitcher #41
Mariners sent RHP Casey Lawrence outright to Triple-A Tacoma.
Lawrence usually gets claimed by the Blue Jays after he’s designated for assignment, but they don’t have the roster room right now. The 37-year-old could elect free agency but likely heads back to Tacoma with the hope of rejoining the Mariners’ pitching staff at some point.
  • CWS Relief Pitcher #94
White Sox sent RHP Yoendrys Gomez outright to Triple-A Charlotte.
Gomez was unclaimed after being designated for assignment by the White Sox on Tuesday. The right-hander will hang around the Chicago organization, and he’ll need to be added back to the 40-man roster in order to pitch in the majors again.
  • KC Right Fielder #16
Royals designated OF Hunter Renfroe for assignment.
Renfroe’s contract calls for him to make $7.5 million in 2025, and even with that figure now prorated, it’d be a surprise if anyone had interest in claiming him. The 33-year-old was awful in 2025 with a 182/.241/.242 slash over 108 plate appearances. He’ll likely become a free agent, and someone should have interest in him as a reclamation project.
  • KC Shortstop #12
Royals recalled INF Nick Loftin from Triple-A Omaha.
Loftin has been excellent in Triple-A with a slash of .295/.451/.468. The former first-round pick will head to Kansas City as a utility player, but could see a decent amount of playing time for the playoff-contending Royals. Hunter Renfroe was designated for assignment as the corresponding move.
  • ATL Shortstop #11
Braves designated INF Orlando Arcia for assignment
Arcia opened the 2025 campaign as Atlanta’s starting shortstop, but the 30-year-old was usurped by Nick Allen and was hitting just .218/.271/.354 before being removed from the roster. It’s very likely that Arcia sees interest on the waiver wire via either claim or trade, but he’ll be hard to trust as a fantasy option with whatever organization he lands with.
  • ATL Right Fielder #13
Braves activated OF Ronald Acuña Jr. off the 10-day injured list.
Acuña is set to make his 2025 debut after missing the first two months — and three-quarters of 2024 — with a torn ACL. The 27-year-old hit 417/.632/.833 over his five games with Gwinnett. There may be some ups-and-downs for Acuña in his first MLB action in well over a year, but he’s absolutely someone who must be activated by fantasy managers. There are few players in baseball who match his upside.
