Peña was removed from the Angels’ 40-man roster back in May and has spent nearly all of the season at Triple-A Salt Lake, struggling both there (8.03 ERA) and during his brief time with the Angels (37.80 ERA).

With just a .690 OPS over his past 30 games, Ramírez has struggled a bit after a blazing hot start to his major league career, but perhaps tonight’s game could help him get off the schneid. He went down and got a low fastball from Mitchell Parker in the first inning that he crushed deep over the fence in left center field. Then, in the third, he attacked a splitter that sat in the heart of the zone and obliterated it 447 feet to that same spot in left-center. His tools are undeniable and give him the chance to be a top-10 catcher for the rest of the season.

Faucher gave up a single with one out in the ninth, but he was able to retire Robert Hassell III and CJ Abrams afterwards to leave James Wood on deck at game’s end. He appears to have emerged as the clear favorite for saves in Miami, having earned four in his last seven appearances.

Parker never had a moment of peace in this game. Agustín Ramírez greeted him with a 408-foot home run in the second at-bat of the game, and Parker wound up allowing more base runners than outs he recorded. While his command has been good over his last few starts, it was awful here. The bulk of both his fastballs and curveballs sat in the heart of the plate and it felt like the Marlins jumped on each one. He’ll have a golden opportunity to right the ship in his next scheduled start at home against the Rockies.

The 11-9 loss for the Nationals tonight had five balls hit at least 108 mph. Wood was responsible for three, while Agustín Ramírez had the other two. Wood’s homer was crushed 451 feet to dead center. He also had a flyout to left that would have been a homer in 10 ballparks. It truly would be nice if he pulled the ball more frequently, but with a .287/.377/.548 line and 17 homers, he’s been one of the NL’s best players anyway.

Morton has excelled in three out of four turns since rejoining the Orioles rotation, and while that doesn’t make him a great play in mixed leagues, it’s certainly a fun story. With tonight’s performance, he joined Steve Carlton, Roger Clemens, Rich Hill, Randy Johnson, Johnny Niggeling, Gaylord Perry, Nolan Ryan and Dazzy Vance as the only pitchers to have multiple 10-strikeout games after turning 41. Morton is slated to face the Rays next time out.

Bautista has stepped it up nicely in the strikeout department, fanning 13 of the 29 batters he’s faced in his last seven outings. His ERA is back down to 3.18 after five straight scoreless appearances.

A big-time groundball pitcher with a poor 50/33 K/BB in 71 2/3 innings, Kochanowicz absolutely has to avoid the home run ball in order to be a useful starter. Alas, he surrendered two tonight, bringing his season total to 13. He dropped to 3-8 with a 5.53 ERA, and it’d really seem to be time for the Angels to try someone else at the back of their rotation. Since Caden Dana has struggled of late, Jake Eder is one possibility.

There were three extra-base hits in the 2-0 game, and O’Hearn was responsible for two of them, though he did have a GIDP in between. He’s up to 10 homers, and he currently ranks eighth in the AL with his .893 OPS.

The Angels were shutout, so Moore had plenty of company tonight. Still, it made for a quiet debut for the 2024 first-round pick. He struck out in his first at-bat and grounded out in his second against Charlie Morton. He then hit a soft lineout against Gregory Soto in the seventh, and he didn’t get up again.

Kwan extended the Guardians’ lead to 2-0 with a homer off Luis Castillo. He’s now gone deep six times in 2025, and it’s his first homer in the month of June. Kwan has been a solid option at the top of the lineup for the Guardians with a slash of .308/.370/.435 over 253 at-bats.
