Astros designated INF Robel García for assignment.
The 28-year-old was back and forth between the major and Triple-A Round Rock this season, posting a .151 average with one home run over 106 at-bats with Houston. García is likely to clear waivers and end up back with the Astros organization.

Guardians selected the contract of RHP Zak Kent from Triple-A Columbus.
It’s the first major league promotion for Kent, who spent five years in the Rangers system before the Guardians acquired him for internation bonus pool money a year ago. The 27-year-old had allowed two runs and amassed a 10/4 K/BB in 7 2/3 innings out of the pen for Columbus.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #24
Guardians designated RHP Triston McKenzie for assignment.
McKenzie reached back for some extra velocity this spring and lost his command in the process. Demoted to the pen prior to Opening Day, he ended up with an 11.12 WRA and a 4/7 K/BB in 5 2/3 innings. It’ll be interesting to see if someone takes a chance on him here. He’s making just $1.95 million, and he’s not eligible for free agency until after 2027, so getting him turned around could provide quite a payoff.
  • DET Right Fielder #30
Kerry Carpenter tested his hamstring in outfield drills prior to Monday’s game.
Chris McCosky of the Detroit News said Carpenter didn’t seem to be in too bad of shape after the jogging and stretching session. Carpenter left Sunday’s game with what was described as right hamstring soreness.
  • DET 3rd Baseman #17
Jace Jung has joined the Tigers in Detroit, though he hasn’t yet been added to the major league roster.
It’s unclear if the Tigers are looking to make a change or if they’re weighing putting someone (Kerry Carpenter?) on the IL. Jung has hit .239/.409/.463 for Triple-A Toledo. He stared off considerably better than that, but he’s in a 3-for-27 slump.
  • BOS Starting Pitcher #0
Walker Buehler limited the White Sox to one run in seven innings and struck out nine in Boston’s 4-2 win Monday.
It certainly didn’t look like this was coming when Buehler walked the first two batters of the third inning to go over 50 pitches for the day. However, he faced just one over the minimum the rest of the way and wound up getting through seven in 100 pitches. Phil Cuzzi’s generous strike zone helped; Buehler got 23 called strikes to go along with his 11 whiffs, giving him a 34% CSW. The nine strikeouts match his high since he returned from Tommy John. Buehler improved to 3-1 with a 4.23 ERA on the season. He still seems like a mediocre play in mixed leagues, though. He’ll face the Guardians next.
  • BOS Relief Pitcher #63
Justin Slaten turned in a scoreless ninth with a two-run lead against the White Sox to pick up his third save Monday.
Manager Alex Cora had Aroldis Chapman face the top of the order in the eighth. Chapman gave up a homer to Andrew Benintendi and had another guy reach when Jarren Duran dropped a flyball for an error, but he retired the other three batters he faced. Slaten then made quick work of the bottom of the order. Chapman remains the favorite for saves in Boston, but Cora is showing flexibility in how he uses his lefty, making Slaten and Garrett Whitlock roster options in deep leagues.
  • CWS Starting Pitcher #48
Jonathan Cannon gave up four runs over six innings Monday in a loss to the White Sox.
10 hard-hit balls, including a homer, and four walks, could have resulted in a worse day for Cannon, but the Red Sox didn’t cash in outside of the third inning. Cannon dropped to 0-3 with a 4.81 ERA. He’ll face the A’s next.
  • BOS 2nd Baseman #28
Kristian Campbell went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a walk against the White Sox on Monday.
He also didn’t deserve the one out he made, but umpire Phil Cuzzi decided to ring him up on a pitch below the strike zone. With three homers, 11 runs scored, eight RBI and one steal in 22 games, Campbell hasn’t rated as a fantasy superstar to date as a rookie. However, he seems like a 10-year veteran in the box, and he’s hitting .316/.418/.500 through 91 plate appearances.
  • CWS 3rd Baseman #20
Miguel Vargas went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts on Monday, lowering his average to .139.
Vargas has a 26% strikeout rate, which is worse than his career mark of 22%, even though his contact numbers are a little better than usual. He also has a 41% hard-hit rate, which is a little above average overall and far better than his career mark of 30%. Still, he’s slugging .203. Since he’s out of options, the White Sox figure to stick with him for now. Their patience might eventually run out, though. After all, he hit just .104/.217/.170 in 157 PA after arriving from the Dodgers last summer.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #62
Marlins recalled RHP George Soriano from Triple-A Jacksonville.
Because Rob Brantly is going on the IL, Soriano gets to be recalled after just two days. He had a 6.94 ERA in 11 2/3 innings of relief work before being optioned out Saturday.
