Jonathan Lucroy has elected free agency.
Lucroy will hit the free agent market once again after rejecting an outright assignment to Triple-A Gwinnett last week. The 35-year-old veteran backstop has appeared in seven games at the major-league level this season as an emergency stopgap for the Nationals and Braves.

Félix Bautista took his first blown save after giving up a run in the ninth Wednesday against the Brewers.
Choosing to get Bautista some work in Tuesday’s loss might have cost the Orioles today, though they did go on to win in 11 innings. Bautista ended up throwing 26 pitches in a sloppy outing yesterday, and he walked two before giving up a game-tying single today. He’ll surely be unavailable Thursday, perhaps putting Yennier Cano in line for a save.
What Crews' MRI means for Hassell III's outlook
With Dylan Crews set to undergo an MRI after exiting Tuesday's game, Eric Samulski assesses whether fantasy managers should rush to roster former top prospect Robert Hassell III after his promotion.
  • MIL Starting Pitcher #39
Chad Patrick struck out seven while allowing one run in 4 2/3 innings Wednesday against the Orioles.
Patrick ought to have been NL Rookie of the Month for posting a 2.45 ERA in five starts and one relief appearance in April, but since voters favor the hitters, Luisangel Acuña got the nod instead. Patrick hasn’t been quite as good in May, but he’s still keeping the Brewers in games with his 3.95 ERA in 27 1/3 innings. He’ll likely face the Red Sox next time out.
  • MIL Relief Pitcher #29
Trevor Megill allowed the automatic runner to score in the 10th but was uninvolved in the decision as the Brewers lost to the Orioles on Wednesday.
Both teams allowed lone runs in the 10th before the Orioles won the game in the 11th. Megill’s appearance today was his third in four days, so he might be unavailable on Thursday. He already lost a save chance last night because of the workload. Abner Uribe picked up that one, and since he was spared today, he might get another save chance Thursday.
  • BAL 1st Baseman #32
Ryan O’Hearn finished 4-for-6 with a double and two RBI against the Brewers on Wednesday.
O’Hearn put the ball in play and good things happened; his hits came on balls with exit velocities of 79, 82, 99 and 92 mph. He is batting .306/.396/.507, and he’s started against enough lefties that he qualifies for the batting title, so he’s 10th in the majors in OBP, 16th in average and 17th in OPS.
  • MIL Right Fielder #22
Christian Yelich grounded out four times and struck out once against the Orioles in Wednesday’s loss.
A 64% groundball rate and a 28% strikeout rate are making it impossible for Yelich to be a productive DH, though he has at least managed to homer on seven of the 26 flyballs he’s hit this season. The Brewers and fantasy leaguers alike have to stick with him and hope things turn around, but everything here is pretty discouraging.
  • DET 1st Baseman #20
Spencer Torkelson went 2-for-2 with an RBI double and two walks Wednesday as the Tigers took down the Cardinals 5-1.
He was retired on the bases twice, but it didn’t make much of a difference today. Torkelson hit .289/.391/.658 over his first 21 games this season and then .187/.279/.360 over his second 21 games, but he seems to be bouncing back again now, having gone 7-for-22 with two homers, two doubles and a 4/6 K/BB ratio in his last seven contests. His 381-foot double today would have been a homer in 16 ballparks, according to Statcast.
  • DET Relief Pitcher #48
Brant Hurter threw three scoreless innings in his spot start against the Cardinals on Wednesday.
It was Hurter’s first start of the year. He routinely went 4-5 innings as a bulk guy for the Tigers last season, but he’s yet to throw more than three innings in 14 appearances this season. The left-hander has a 2.08 ERA in 26 innings during 2025, and he’s come in at 2.40 in 71 1/3 innings since debuting last summer. He’d be just fine in an expanded role if the Tigers ever have the need.
  • DET Relief Pitcher #4
Beau Brieske finished up a 5-1 win with two perfect innings against the Cardinals on Wednesday.
Brieske would have come in with the score 3-1 if the Tigers hadn’t scored twice in the top of the eighth, though it’s hard to say whether he still would have been given a chance to complete the save in that event. He does have one save in eight appearances since coming off the IL earlier this month. He struck out two in finishing off the Cardinals today.
  • STL Starting Pitcher #53
Andrew Pallante lost to the Tigers after allowing three runs in 5 2/3 innings on Wednesday.
Pallante was lifted one out shy of his third straight quality start and fifth overall. He had really good velocity today, averaging 95.3 mph with his fastball and topping out at 97.4 mph, but four walks hurt him. Two of those came just before he was pulled in the sixth. Pallante will take a 4-3 record and a 4.18 ERA into his next start in Baltimore.
  • WSH Starting Pitcher #32
Wednesday’s game between Atlanta and the Nationals has been postponed due to inclement weather.
It’ll be made up as a split doubleheader on September 16. Wednesday’s original starting pitchers — AJ Smith-Shawver and Trevor Williams — will presumably be pushed back to take the ball during Thursday’s series finale.
