  • ATH Starting Pitcher #53

Blue Jays signed first-round pick RHP Gunnar Hoglund.
Carlos Collazo of Baseball America says that Hoglund’s signing bonus will be $3.2475 million, which is a little more than $100,000 under slot for the No. 19 overall pick. Hoglund is recovering from Tommy John surgery but was viewed as a likely top-10 pick before the operation.

  • TEX Relief Pitcher #46

Rangers signed RHP Craig Kimbrel to a minor league contract.
Kimbrel will get an opportunity to keep his career going after being cut loose earlier this week by Atlanta after just one outing back in the big leagues. The 37-year-old veteran stopper is unlikely to factor into Texas’ closing mix, especially considering he was averaging 92 mph on his fastball in his return to the big leagues. We’re not willing to rule out the possibility that he makes it to the club’s relief mix at some point.
Fantasy expectations for Red Sox's Anthony
Primed to hit in the middle of Boston's lineup, top prospect Roman Anthony appears set to deliver raw power and a selective approach for the Red Sox and fantasy managers moving forward.
  • ARI Catcher #14
Gabriel Moreno (hand) is back in the lineup for Tuesday’s showdown against the Mariners.
Moreno is back handling the catching duties and batting eighth following a three-game absence with hand inflammation after taking a wild pitch off his throwing hand during Friday’s game against the Reds.
  • LAD Designated Hitter #17
Shohei Ohtani (elbow) faced hitters on Tuesday in a 44-pitch, three-inning live batting practice session at Petco Park.
It was Ohtani’s third time facing hitters this season as he continues to ramp up his throwing program from a workload and stamina perspective. The 30-year-old two-way sensation, who is also tied with Yankees icon Aaron Judge for second place on the home run leaderboard with 23 round-trippers this season, remains without a definitive timetable to pitch in game action for the Dodgers, but it’s theoretically possible that he’ll be ready at some point in the second half.
  • SF 3rd Baseman #26
Matt Chapman has been diagnosed with a right hand sprain and will visit specialist Dr. Steve Shin in Los Angeles on Friday to undergo further evaluation.
Chapman will undergo further testing and evaluation later this week to determine his exact recovery timetable after landing on the injured list ahead of Tuesday’s series opener against the Rockies. The 32-year-old defensive wizard suffered the injury during Sunday’s game against Atlanta when he dove back into first base on a pickoff attempt. There should be an update on his status and long-term outlook at some point later this week.
  • LAA Right Fielder #12
Jorge Soler (groin) is back in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Athletics.
Soler is back in right field and batting fifth on Tuesday night at Angel Stadium following a brief two-game absence recovering from a lingering groin issue. It doesn’t appear to be a serious concern moving forward, but the Angels are likely to be cautious with his workload to avoid a setback.
  • SF Starting Pitcher #35
Justin Verlander (pectoral) will throw a bullpen session on Wednesday.
Verlander faced hitters on Friday in a roughly 35-pitch simulated game and appears on track to rejoin San Francisco’s rotation at some point soon. The club has had the luxury to avoid rushing him back with lefty Kyle Harrison pitching well, but they’ll likely have a tough decision to make in the coming days.
  • SF Relief Pitcher #12
Jordan Hicks (toe) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Tuesday.
Hicks doesn’t appear to be facing a lengthy absence after landing on the shelf last week with right toe inflammation. It’s possible he’ll be ready to rejoin San Francisco’s bullpen mix without a rehab assignment.
  • CWS Catcher #8
Kyle Teel is at catcher and batting sixth on Tuesday against the Astros.
Teel is hitting .375 (3-for-8) through three games since being called up last week from Triple-A Charlotte. The 23-year-old top prospect figures to play virtually everyday for the rebuilding White Sox, spending time at DH in addition to splitting the catching duties with fellow rookie Edgar Quero.
  • HOU Starting Pitcher #41
Spencer Arrighetti (thumb) will progress to throwing a bullpen session next week.
Arrighetti suffered a fractured thumb during a freak accident during on-field batting practice back in early April and could return to Houston’s injury-ravaged rotation at some point in the next few weeks. The 25-year-old righty is going to need a handful of rehab outings to build up his pitch count and stamina, but there’s a chance he’s back at some point in July.
  • BAL 3rd Baseman #11
Jordan Westburg is at third base and batting sixth on Tuesday against the Tigers in his return to the lineup.
Westburg is back in Baltimore’s lineup for the first time since late April when he suffered a left hamstring strain. Cedric Mullins is at DH and batting ninth in his return to the lineup on Tuesday night. The versatile 26-year-old infielder is expected to serve as the Orioles’ primary option at the hot corner moving forward with top prospect Coby Mayo shifting over to first base permanently.
