Pirates sent OF Dustin Fowler outright to their alternate training site.
Fowler was designated for assignment by the Bucs last week and passed through waivers unclaimed. The 26-year-old outfielder had batted just .171/.239/.195 through 46 plate appearances this season.

Red Sox SS prospect Marcelo Mayer is not in Saturday’s lineup for Triple-A Worcester.
Mayer, who went 2-for-4 with his ninth home run of the season on Friday night, is out of the lineup for precautionary reasons, according to Triple-A manager Chad Tracey, in case he’s needed in Boston at some point this weekend with veteran Alex Bregman potentially hitting the injured list with a quad issue. The 22-year-old top prospect is worthy of a speculative roster spot in deeper mixed leagues, even if he doesn’t possess stratospheric offensive upside.
Top prospect Clarke to be called up by Athletics
Following the Atheltics' announcement that they are calling up prized outfield Denzel Clarke, James Schiano discusses what the toolsy prospect with "blazing speed" will bring to the pro level.
  • CHC 3rd Baseman #6
Matt Shaw is at third base and batting ninth on Saturday for the fifth consecutive contest.
Shaw has collected at least one hit in three of the four games he’s started since returning to the majors earlier this week. The Cubs are going to let him continue to figure things out towards the bottom of the order for now. It’s an encouraging development that he’s looking a bit more comfortable at the dish in his second go-around in the big leagues.
  • TEX 2nd Baseman #2
Marcus Semien is batting ninth on Saturday for the second consecutive game against the White Sox.
Semien has been mired in one of the worst prolonged stretches of his entire career, hitting .177/.267/.232 with three homers and two steals through 51 games this season. There are no easy answers here since virtually every underlying metric suggests he’s not close to turning things around and he’s striking out at a career-worst 22.3 percent clip. It’s possible his days as a fantasy-relevant contributor are over especially since he’ll turn 35 years old in September.
  • NYY Center Fielder #35
Cody Bellinger is back in the lineup for Saturday’s showdown against the Rockies.
Bellinger is back after sitting out Friday’s series opener in Colorado. The 29-year-old center fielder has been on an absolute tear recently, hitting .361 (22-for-61) with five homers and 13 RBI over his last 15 games.
  • ATL Catcher #30
Drake Baldwin is at catcher and batting second on Saturday against the Padres.
This certainly qualifies as a shakeup. Baldwin has been on fire in recent weeks, hitting .442 (19-for-43) with three homers over his last 15 games, and Atlanta is going to give him a shot hitting behind top-of-the-order igniter Ronald Acuña Jr. and move Austin Riley, who is hitting .233 (14-for-60) with zero homers over his last 15 games, down to the fifth spot in the order. We’ll see if it’s a temporary move or more of a permanent decision in the coming days.
  • WSH Shortstop #13
Amed Rosario is at third base and batting second on Saturday against the Giants.
It’s a different look on Saturday for the Nationals as they square off against San Francisco lefty Kyle Harrison. Rosario has been bumped up to the second spot, behind table-setter CJ Abrams to break up the trio of left-handers in Abrams, James Wood and Nathaniel Lowe. Luis García Jr. has been dropped to the seventh spot for this one.
  • CIN Starting Pitcher #25
Rhett Lowder (elbow) has been shut down from throwing after suffering an oblique strain.
It’s a significant development for the top pitching prospect in Cincinnati’s organization as he was just starting to make his way back from right elbow discomfort that derailed his spring training ramp-up process. The 23-year-old top pitching prospect is going to be shut down for the next few weeks and will have to re-start his throwing program from scratch. It’s unlikely he’ll make it back to the majors until some point in the second half.
  • BAL Starting Pitcher #28
Trevor Rogers will serve as the 27th man for Saturday’s doubleheader against the Red Sox.
It’s official. Rogers will presumably take the ball for the nightcap affair on Saturday evening at a rain-soaked Fenway Park. The 27-year-old lefty is not a recommended option for fantasy purposes at the moment since he’s been getting hit hard at the Triple-A level in recent weeks.
  • BAL Shortstop #54
Orioles selected the contract of INF/OF Terrin Vavra from Triple-A Norfolk.
Vavra returns to Baltimore’s bench mix ahead of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Red Sox at Fenway Park. The 28-year-old former prospect didn’t appear in the majors last year after getting into 67 games the previous two seasons for the Orioles. His defensive versatility gives him some appeal in a reserve role, but he can be safely ignored for fantasy purposes.
  • BAL Center Fielder #12
Orioles placed OF Ramón Laureano on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 21, with a left ankle sprain.
Laureano heads to the injured list for some extra time off after missing a couple games earlier this week due to a left ankle issue. It’s probably the right move since the Orioles don’t want to continue playing with a shortened bench, especially during Saturday’s doubleheader.
