Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said Wednesday that there are no current plans for Felix Hernandez (elbow) to undergo an MRI or any other exam.
King Felix exited Tuesday’s Grapefruit League outing with a sore pitching elbow, but the O’s are considering it a day-to-day situation for now. Hernandez is still a bit sore and he underwent treatment Wednesday. There’s no timetable for his return. The veteran right-hander is in camp as a non-roster invitee.

Dodgers’ manager Dave Roberts told reporters on Friday night that right-hander Evan Phillips will undergo season-ending Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery.
It sounded ominous when the Dodgers moved him to the 60-day injured list on Thursday and didn’t provide an update and now we have clarity on exactly what’s going on there. Phillips tried playing catch a couple of days ago and it did not go well, prompting another examination and the ultimate diagnosis of the torn UCL. He’ll miss the remainder of the 2025 season and a large chunk of the 2026 campaign as well while recovering.
Palencia 'asserts himself' as Cubs closer
Daniel Palencia has four saves in his last four appearances, and James Schiano examines how the 25-year-old flamethrower has officially asserted himself as the Chicago Cubs closer moving forward.
  • LAD Right Fielder #50
Mookie Betts is absent from the lineup for Friday’s game against the Yankees due to a toe injury.
According to Jon Heyman of The New York Post, Betts may undergo X-rays to see exactly what’s going on there. It sounds like it’s an issue that has been nagging him for a while, so it’s probably best to get it looked at to be on the safe side. Miguel Rojas will start in his place at shortstop on Friday night and could be in line for increased action if the dynamic 32-year-old is forced to miss any time.
  • MIN Center Fielder #12
Harrison Bader was held out of the Twins’ starting lineup once again on Friday night against the Mariners.
Bader has now missed four consecutive games due to inflammation in his right ring finger after breaking his bat on a swing over the weekend. If this continues to linger, the Twins may ultimately be forced to use a backdated stint on the injured list. Byron Buxton returned to the Twins’ lineup on Friday night and will cover center field while Willi Castro starts in left against Bryan Woo and the Mariners.
  • ATH 1st Baseman #16
Nick Kurtz (hip) is tentatively scheduled to run the bases next weekend as he works his way back from a hip flexor strain.
If all goes well with that, then he’ll be cleared to head out on a brief minor league rehab assignment. He’s only expected to require a couple of games there to get his timing back before he’s cleared to rejoin the Athletics. It sounds like he’s trending toward a return in mid-June.
  • ATH 2nd Baseman #20
Zack Gelof (ribs) is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment before the end of next week.
The 25-year-old second baseman had been making progress in his recovery from surgery to repair a hamate fracture in his right hand before he was shut down due to a stress reaction in his ribs. He’s probably going to require at least a handful of games on that rehab assignment before becoming an option to rejoin the A’s.
  • BAL 1st Baseman #6
Ryan Mountcastle was removed from Friday’s battle against the White Sox due to right hamstring discomfort.
It seems as though Mountcastle suffered the injury while stealing home on a double steal during the sixth inning. He’ll head for further evaluation to determine the extent of the injury. Expect the O’s to provide an update on his status as soon as more information becomes available.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #68
Padres optioned LHP Kyle Hart to Triple-A El Paso.
Hart came up to make a spot start against the Marlins on Wednesday and wound up allowing five runs over 4 2/3 frames in a no-decision. He’ll continue to refine his craft at the Triple-A level for the time being. Bradgley Rodriguez was promoted from Double-A San Antonio to take his place on the active roster.
  • SD Relief Pitcher
Padres selected the contract of RHP Bradgley Rodriguez from Double-A San Antonio.
The 21-year-old phenom didn’t have much left to prove in the minor leagues after registering a 3.22 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and a 31/5 K/BB ratio over 22 1/3 innings in 18 appearances at Double-A San Antonio. He could wind up being a major weapon out of the Padres’ bullpen, though he’ll probably have to work his way up into a high leverage role. Kyle Hart was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move on Friday.
  • ARI Relief Pitcher #35
Diamondbacks designated LHP Joe Mantply for assignment.
It wasn’t enough that the Diamondbacks optioned the struggling southpaw back to Triple-A Reno in mid-May, he has now been stripped of his place on the team’s 40-man roster as well. Mantiply has posted a 15.83 ERA, 3.00 WHIP and an 8/3 K/BB ratio over 9 2/3 innings with the D’Backs this season. He has proven to be a viable contributor to big league bullpens in the past though, which could be enough for another team to take a chance on him on waivers.
  • ARI Relief Pitcher #37
Diamondbacks optioned RHP Kevin Ginkel to Triple-A Reno.
The 31-year-old hurler has been obliterated in 13 appearances out of the Diamondbacks’ bullpen this season, compiling a dreadful 12.60 ERA, 2.10 WHIP and a 15/7 K/BB ratio over 10 innings of work. He’ll work through his issues at the Triple-A level for the time being.
