Bartolo Colon told Hector Gomez of Z Deportes that he wants to play one more year in the majors and retire as a Met.
Colon said the same thing prior to last season before signing with a Mexican League team. He will turn 48 next May and hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2018 and with any level of effectiveness since 2016. So, as fun as it would be, it’s highly unlikely to happen. The odds are good that “Big Sexy” has thrown his last pitch in the big leagues.

Nathan Eovaldi left Tuesday’s game after two innings with an unknown injury.
Jacob Latz replaced him against the Blue Jays. Eovaldi had thrown 39 pitches over two scoreless innings. His velocity was down slightly from his norm, but not by a worrisome margin.
Mayer joins Red Sox after Bregman lands on IL
The Boston Red Sox called up top prospect Marcelo Mayer to replace injured third baseman Alex Bregman, and Eric Samulski discusses why you should still stash Bregman if your fantasy league has multiple IL spots.
  • ARI 2nd Baseman #12
Diamondbacks signed INF Nicky Lopez to a minor league contract.
Lopez provides Arizona with some emergency infield depth after both Garrett Hampson and Ildemaro Vargas left the organization in recent days. The 30-year-old defensive wizard got into 18 games earlier this season between the Angels and Cubs.
  • PHI 1st Baseman #3
Bryce Harper has been diagnosed with a right elbow contusion after X-rays came back negative for any fractures.
It’s a massive relief for the Phillies, and fantasy managers, after Harper was drilled in his surgically-repaired right elbow by a 95.3-mph heater from Atlanta ace Spencer Strider. The 32-year-old generational talent is day-to-day for now. It’s possible he’ll need some time off for the pain and swelling to subside, but he appears to have avoided serious injury. Exhale.
  • SEA Center Fielder #20
Luke Raley (oblique) is likely to begin a minor league rehab assignment next week.
Raley is set to ramp up baseball activities this week with the goal of heading out next week on a rehab assignment. The 30-year-old corner outfielder has been out since late April with a right oblique strain. He should make it back to Seattle’s lineup by mid-June.
  • PHI 1st Baseman #3
Bryce Harper made an early exit from Tuesday’s game against Atlanta after being hit by a pitch on the right elbow.
This didn’t look good at all. Harper appeared to be in a great deal of pain after being struck by a 95.3-mph fastball from Atlanta ace Spencer Strider near his surgically-repaired right elbow. The 32-year-old superstar will head for imaging to determine whether he suffered any fractures or structural damage. We’ll have updates on the developing situation as it unfolds.
  • ARI 2nd Baseman #4
Ketel Marte is absent from the lineup for Tuesday’s game agains the Pirates due to illness.
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo told reporters Marte is dealing with the flu. The 31-year-old fantasy superstar might need a couple days off before he’s feeling better. His absence breaks up a streak of 13 consecutive starts dating back to May 12. It’ll be top prospect Jordan Lawlar getting an opportunity to start for just the fifth time since being called up earlier this month.
  • NYY Left Fielder #24
Jasson Domínguez is not in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Angels.
Domínguez is in the midst of a recent dip at the plate, hitting .182 (4-for-22) with one homer and two steals over his last seven games. To his credit, the home run was a walk-off blast last Wednesday against the Rangers. It’ll be Cody Bellinger getting a turn in left field on Tuesday night.
  • KC Relief Pitcher #67
Seth Lugo (finger) is likely to return from the injured list to start later this week against the Tigers.
Lugo hit the injured list back in mid-May with a right finger sprain. It sounds like he’ll be ready to rejoin Kansas City’s rotation without a minor league rehab assignment. He’ll likely take the ball at some point during a three-game series against Detroit that gets underway on Friday.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #31
Max Scherzer (thumb) is scheduled to face hitters later this week in a live batting practice session.
Scherzer threw a 45-pitch bullpen session on Monday and will progress to facing hitters later this week. The 40-year-old future Hall of Famer is working his way back from a thumb issue that has derailed his Toronto debut. There’s a chance he’s ready to rejoin the Blue Jays’ rotation in late June.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #36
Logan Gilbert (elbow) will begin a minor league rehab assignment this week.
Gilbert is going to need at least one minor league tune-up since he hasn’t pitched in game action in nearly a month since hitting the shelf back in late April with a flexor strain in his right elbow. The 28-year-old fantasy ace should return to Seattle’s rotation in early June.
