Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports that the Red Sox and Dustin Pedroia are scheduled to meet soon to “talk about a mutual understanding that would end his playing career”.
Pedroia missed the entire 2020 campaign due to a knee injury and has appeared in just nine games total since the end of the 2017 season. He’s still owed $12.125 million for the 2021 season, but it sounds like there will be some sort of settlement instead as Pedroia will likely hang up his cleats for good. That would give the Red Sox the benefit of freeing up a spot on the 40-man roster.

  • LAD Second Baseman #25

Tommy Edman is now hitting eighth against the Tigers on Saturday.
In the original lineup, Edman was slated to hit second after Shohei Ohtani. Instead, it’ll be Teoscar Hernandez hitting second between Ohtani and Freddie Freeman. Carry on.
  • PHI Second Baseman #5
Bryson Stott went 2-for-3 with a home run, three runs scored, two RBI, and two walks to lead the Phillies to a 11-6 win over the Nationals on Saturday.
Stott had an incredible day at the plate, starting with a double in the second inning. He then put the Phillies on the board with a two-run blast off Jake Irvin in the fourth. He later drew a walk and scored in the sixth and seventh innings to reach four times on the day.
  • PHI Left Fielder #12
Kyle Schwarber went 2-for-5 with a three-run homer against the Nationals on Saturday.
Schwarber drew the leadoff spot against a right-handed starter on Saturday. He knocked a single in the first inning, then took Lucas Sims deep in the sixth for a three-run blast to extend the Phillies’ lead. It was the second home run in the young season for the 32-year-old slugger.
  • WSH Catcher #20
Keibert Ruiz went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer against the Phillies on Saturday.
Ruiz went yard for the second time in as many games to start the season, taking Jesus Luzardo deep for a two-run shot in the second inning. He added another extra-base hit with a double in the sixth. The 26-year-old struggled to get going last season after starting the year recovering from an illness and could be in store for a bounce-back season.
  • PHI Starting Pitcher #44
Jesús Luzardo gave up two runs with 11 strikeouts over five innings in a win over the Nationals on Saturday.
Luzardo dazzled against the Nats on Saturday, generating 18 whiffs to strike out 11 batters through five frames. The one mistake came in the second inning with Keibert Ruiz taking him deep for a two-run shot. The 27-year-old left-hander had his fastball up by nearly two miles per hour over last season. He’ll look to follow up the strong outing in a tough matchup against the Dodgers in Philadelphia on Friday.
  • WSH Starting Pitcher #27
Jake Irvin allowed two runs with two strikeouts over five innings in a no-decision against the Phillies on Saturday.
Irvin stranded baserunners in each of the first three innings before Bryson Stott got to him for a two-run homer in the fourth. He’s end his day after five with just the two runs allowed with striking out two batters. The 28-year-old right-hander should probably be avoided for fantasy purposes when he takes on the Diamondbacks at home on Friday.
  • ATL Starting Pitcher #99
Spencer Strider (elbow) allowed one run in three innings with six strikeouts Saturday in a rehab start for Triple-A Gwinnett.
Strider threw 41-of-60 pitches for strikes and reportedly topped out at 97.4 mph during the rehab appearance. The right-hander will assuredly make at least one more rehab outing, but then could be ready to join the Atlanta rotation. The fantasy upside for Strider is massive, and it should be on display in the majors relatively soon.
  • COL Right Fielder #15
Hunter Goodman went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored in the Rockies’ 2-1 win over the Rays on Saturday.
Goodman doubled off Garrett Cleavinger in the seventh inning and scored what would turn out to be the winning run on a single by Kyle Farmer. The 25-year-old has started both games at catcher for the Rockies, picking up where he left off after an impressive spring. It might be time to check your waiver wire if in need of a backstop.
  • TB Third Baseman #24
Christopher Morel went 2-for-2 with two walks and a run scored against the Rockies on Saturday.
Morel got the start in left field and was a bright spot in the lineup after the team was held to one run against the Rockies. He singled to lead off the eighth inning to reach base for a fourth time on the day and finally crossed the plate on a base hit by Taylor Walls to score Tampa Bay’s only run. The versatile 25-year-old is looking to bounce back from a disappointing season in his first full year with the Rays.
  • COL Relief Pitcher #54
Seth Halvorsen recorded a four-out save with one strikeout against the Rays on Saturday.
Halvorsen was called on with two outs and two runners on in the eighth to protect a one-run lead. He induced a groundout then pitched a clean ninth inning for his first save of the season. The 25-year-old right-hander could make his case to secure the closer role for the Rockies.
