The Marlins have added left-hander Daniel Castano to their roster for the NLDS against the Braves.
The Marlins have also added right-hander Nick Vincent and infielder Sean Rodriguez while outfielder Starling Marte, left-hander Stephen Tarpley, first baseman Lewin Diaz, and right-hander Edward Cabrera are officially off. Castano, 26, posted a 3.03 ERA and 12/11 K/BB ratio over 29 2/3 innings during the regular season and will give the Marlins a long relief option.

Diamondbacks signed RHP Sean Reid-Foley to a minor league contract.
Reid-Foley, 29, was let go by the Mets last week after a poor two months in Triple-A. He has a 4.10 ERA in 131 2/3 innings as a major leaguer dating back to 2018, but he’s struggled with injuries for much of his career.
Doval named Giants closer moving forward
Eric Samulski evaluates what to expect from Camilo Doval after the San Francisco Giants named the former National League saves leader their closer moving forward.
  • BAL Center Fielder #31
Orioles placed OF Cedric Mullins on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 29, with a strained right hamstring.
This means all three Orioles starting outfielders are currently on the IL, though Colton Cowser, at least, should be back early next week. Mullins, the team’s best player over the first four weeks of the season, had come in at just .184/.227/.340 in his last 27 games. The Orioles will likely have Dylan Carlson and Jorge Mateo split time in center for now. Cowser can take over there next week.
  • BAL Left Fielder #67
Orioles signed OF Cooper Hummel to a one-year contract.
Hummel’s second stint with the Orioles will last a little longer than the first — he was added Sunday and DFA’d the next day — but he’s still a temp. The 30-year-old has hit .159/.255/.275 in 235 career plate appearances in the majors.
  • BAL Starting Pitcher #53
Orioles transferred RHP Cody Poteet from the 15-day to the 60-day injured list.
Poteet has already missed more than five weeks with shoulder inflammation. This means he’ll miss at least three more.
  • TB Center Fielder #28
Rays activated OF Jake Mangum from the 10-day injured list.
Mangum, who had been out with a groin strain, is a poor bet to keep hitting like he did before going on the IL last month (.338/.384/.397 in 73 PA), but the Rays will let him try; he’ll likely step in as the left fielder against right-handers with Chandler Simpson getting demoted. We’d suggest leaving him on the waiver wire in mixed leagues.
  • TB Center Fielder #14
Rays optioned OF Chandler Simpson to Triple-A Durham.
The Rays are picking Jake Mangum over Simpson now that he’s ready to return from the IL. Simpson hit .285 in 133 plate appearances and stole 19 bases in 35 games, but he had just four extra-base hits and six walks and his defense wasn’t great. This is a big disappointment for fantasy leaguers, but it’s easy to understand why the Rays made the move. It’s still encouraging that Simpson wasn’t overmatched in the majors, but given his extreme lack of power, it’s imperative that he become a better defender if he’s going to truly help the Rays.
  • CWS Relief Pitcher #45
White Sox agreed to terms with RHP Dan Altavilla on a one-year, $1-million contract.
Altavilla had just opted out of his minor league deal with the White Sox, but now he’s back with the organization and in the majors as a result of Miguel Castro’s unfortunate knee injury. Altavilla, 32, had a 2.49 ERA and an 18/10 K/BB in 21 2/3 innings for Charlotte. He’ll join the late-game mix for the White Sox if he gets off to a good start.
  • CWS Relief Pitcher #60
White Sox placed RHP Miguel Castro on the 15-day injured list with a patellar tendon tear in his right knee.
Castro is out for the year after slipping on first base while retiring Juan Soto on Wednesday.
  • ATL Left Fielder #28
Braves selected the contract of OF José Azócar.
Azócar opted for free agency Wednesday after the Mets DFA’d him and he cleared waivers. The 29-year-old went 5-for-20 in 12 appearances for the Mets. He’ll take over as the Braves’ fifth outfielder with Stuart Fairchild injured and get the occasional at-bat against a lefty.
  • ATL Left Fielder #17
Braves placed OF Stuart Fairchild on the 10-day injured list with a dislocated pinkie finger.
The lightly used Fairchild was 6-for-33 in 21 appearances for the Braves. Eli White had overtaken him as a platoon option against lefties, so he was going to see even less time now with Ronald Acuña Jr. back.
