  • DET Relief Pitcher #31
Alex Wilson has announced his retirement.
The 33-year-old Wilson is set to join Ballengee Group, which is described as a “Dallas-based athlete representation agency, to recruit and advise players.” He’ll finish his career with a 3.44 ERA over 303 appearances in the majors, the great majority of them coming with the Tigers. He had a brief stint with the Brewers last year before being released in August.

  • SD Left Fielder #10
Jurickson Profar homered and doubled while going 4-for-4 in a win over the Astros on Monday.
Profar’s homer gave the Padres a little extra wiggle room in the eighth inning by increasing the lead to 3-1. The former top-overall prospect had a rough August with a .196 average and .689 OPS, but September has been much kinder with a slash of .326/.434/.535 with two homers in 43 at-bats. It’s nice to see the 31-year-old living up to his potential.
  • SD Center Fielder #3
Jackson Merrill went 2-for-3 with a homer in a win over the Astros on Monday.
The excellent rookie campaign for Merrill continues. He took Spencer Arrighetti deep to double the Padres lead to 2-0, and improve his homer total to 24. The 21-year-old has now gone deep four times in September, and he’s slugging .680 for the month. Some more patience at the plate would be nice, but it’d be silly to nitpick what has been an outstanding first season at the dish — and in the field — for Merrill in 2024.
  • SD Relief Pitcher #75
Robert Suarez picked up a save with a scoreless ninth inning against the Astros on Monday.
Suarez bounced back from his blown save against the Giants on Sunday. He didn’t have to work too hard, throwing just eight pitches and not allowing a hit. The right-hander is now 33-for-38 in save chances in 2024 with a solid 2.55 ERA.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #11
Yu Darvish fired six scoreless innings to get a win over the Astros on Monday.
Darvish only struck out three, but he also only gave up three hits in another efficient outing for the right-hander. He’s looked the part over his last two starts after his shaky return from the restricted list, even if he hasn’t piled up the strikeouts with eight in 13 innings. Darvish is a must-start over the weekend when the Padres take on the White Sox.
  • HOU Starting Pitcher #41
Spencer Arrighetti allowed two runs over five innings while picking up a loss to the Padres on Monday.
Arrighetti walked one and struck out three. The right-hander was a bit fortunate to only give up the two runs, as he gave up eight hits in the contest. Three of those were for extra bases, including a solo homer by Jackson Merrill. It’s not a horrible result, it just wasn’t the effective effort from the 24-year-old. Arrighetti is expected back on the bump Sunday against the Angels.
  • SD Second Baseman #4
Luis Arraez had a sore knee after sliding into home plate Monday, but he’s hopeful he can play Tuesday.
Arraez was more upset about striking out for the first time since Aug. 10 than he was about the knee. He’ll probably DH if he is in the lineup Tuesday, but that’s been his spot for the most part lately anyway.
  • CWS Left Fielder #23
Andrew Benintendi delivered his 18th and 19th homers and walked twice as the White Sox topped the Angels 8-4 on Monday.
Incredibly enough, Benintendi is now just one homer away from matching his career high from his first full season in 2017. He has 11 homers since the beginning of August after totaling just eight over the first four months. He has eight career two-homer games: three in 2017, two in 2021 and now three this year.
  • CWS Starting Pitcher #48
Jonathan Cannon won Monday despite allowing four runs in 6 2/3 innings against the Angels.
It’s not only the first time this year that a White Sox pitcher has allowed four runs and won, but it’s the first time a White Sox pitcher has allowed three runs and won. That had happened about 250 times across the league this year, but never with the Chris Getz’s club. Cannon had allowed a total of two runs in his previous three wins. This moves him to 4-10 with a 4.61 ERA ahead of his next start against the Padres.
  • LAA Starting Pitcher #48
Reid Detmers was lit up for seven runs in 5 1/3 innings by the White Sox in a loss Monday.
Lol. Detmers gave the Angels quality starts against the Twins and Dodgers after being recalled at the beginning of the month, yet he completely fell apart against MLB’s worst team, giving up three homers to a club that had averaged 0.79 per game. We’ll probably peg Detmers as a 2025 sleeper if the Angels opt to move him this winter, but it’s pretty easy to see why his current team has been so frustrated with him.
  • LAA First Baseman #34
Eric Wagaman hit his first big-league homer Monday in the loss to the White Sox.
Wagaman was primary a first baseman in the minors, but the Angels have him playing third in Anthony Rendon’s absence, and he came through tonight. The 27-year-old is now 4-for-20 as a big leaguer. It’s imperative that he finish strong if he expects to stick on the Angels’ 40-man this winter.
