Brian McCann told reporters on Wednesday night that he is retiring from baseball.
McCann was pinch-hit for in the ninth inning of the Braves’ 13-1 blowout loss to the Cardinals in Game 5 of the NLDS on Wednesday. He finished the night 1-for-3. The 35-year-old backstop spent most of his 15-year career with the Braves -- with stops with the Astros and Yankees in between -- and he goes out with a career .789 OPS, 1,590 hits, and 282 homers along with seven All-Star appearances. The Braves will likely look for a platoon catcher to go with Tyler Flowers in the offseason -- assuming they pick up Flowers’ club option for $6 million in 2020 -- with prospect Alex Jackson also a potential option.
  • INT Relief Pitcher #34

The Nippon Ham Fighters in Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball announced that they have re-signed right-hander Drew VerHagen to a one-year contract.
The 34-year-old hurler signed on with the Ham Fighters prior to the 2024 campaign and went on to post a 3.09 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and an 82/22 K/BB ratio over 96 innings in his 20 appearances. He then declined his player option and explored the open market before deciding that a return there was in his best interests.
  • COL Relief Pitcher #62
Rockies signed RHP Diego Castillo to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
The 30-year-old hurler made just seven appearances with the Twins during the 2024 season, registering a 2.70 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and a 6/8 K/BB ratio over 10 innings of work. From 2018-2022 though he was one of the most reliable setup men in the game for the Rays and Mariners. Given the current state of their bullpen, this seems like a very worthwhile gamble for the Rockies to make.
  • PIT First Baseman #24
Pirates signed 1B Darick Hall to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Hall provides Pittsburgh with some extra cold corner depth at Triple-A Indianapolis entering next season behind newly acquired starter Spencer Horwitz. The 29-year-old slugger has put up some big-time numbers in the upper minors but hasn’t been able to establish himself at the highest level, getting into 59 contests for the Phillies from 2022-2023. He spent all of last year at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, batting .236/.320/.387 with 16 round-trippers and two steals in 488 plate appearances.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #75
Tigers signed LHP Dietrich Enns to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Enns returns stateside after spending the last three years pitching overseas in Japan and Korea. The 33-year-old southpaw made 11 appearances (one start) in the majors between the Twins and Rays from 2017-2021 before heading overseas. He’ll have an opportunity in spring training to compete for a spot in Detroit’s pitching mix, most likely as a versatile swingman.
  • PHI Relief Pitcher #67
Phillies signed RHP Joel Kuhnel to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Kuhnel hit free agency last month following his removal from Tampa Bay’s 40-man roster. The 29-year-old righty made six big-league relief appearances last year between the Rays and Astros. He’ll bolster Philadelphia’s organizational depth heading into spring training.
  • NYY Left Fielder
Yankees signed OF Ismael Munguia to a minor league contract.
Munguia posted decent numbers last year in the upper minors for San Francisco, batting .286/.387/.418 with seven homers and 18 thefts in 372 plate appearances between Double-A Richmond and Triple-A Sacramento. The 26-year-old outfielder represents extra organizational depth for San Diego.
  • SD Center Fielder #97
Padres signed OF Cole Roederer to a minor league contact.
Roederer was a second-round pick of the Cubs back in 2018 and never wound up making it to the majors. The 25-year-old outfielder batted .186/.306/.311 with six homers and seven steals in 369 plate appearances last year between Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa.
  • FA Left Fielder #69
    Reds released OF Peyton Burdick.
Burdick got into 46 contests for the Marlins from 2022-2023, batting .200/.281/.368 with five homers and two steals in 139 plate appearances. The 27-year-old outfielder, who spent all of last season at the Triple-A level between the Reds and Orioles, has likely been cut loose to pursue an opportunity overseas.
  • BOS Relief Pitcher #63
Red Sox signed RHP Noah Davis to a minor league contract.
Davis fortifies Boston’s organizational relief depth heading into next season after posting a bloated 7.71 ERA, 1.95 WHIP and 43/23 K/BB ratio across 51 1/3 innings (18 appearances, six starts) over the last three years for the Rockies. The 27-year-old righty will most likely open next year at Triple-A Worcester.
  • FA Third Baseman #13
Ehire Adrianza announced his retirement from professional baseball.
Adrianza hangs up his spikes after a dozen years in the majors that includes stints with the Giants, Twins, Braves, Nationals and Angels. The 35-year-old, who made the announcement on his Instagram account, carved out a decade-plus career as a versatile utility infielder, finishing with a .237/.307/.352 triple-slash line with 187 runs scored, 22 homers, 151 RBI and 19 steals in 624 games since 2013.
