Suarez didn’t give the Pirates any sort of hope in the ninth inning as he got Endy Rodriguez on a fly ball to right and then struck out Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Oneil Cruz in succession to end the ballgame. He has been among the most dependable closers in all of baseball this season, converting 19 of his 21 save chances while posting a minuscule 2.13 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and a 28/8 K/BB ratio across 25 1/3 innings of work.

The 26-year-old hurler also walked three batters while striking out three in the unimpressive outing. Most of the damage done against him came via the long ball, as Andrew McCutchen crushed a two-run homer as part of a three-run uprising in the third inning and Adam Frazier added a solo shot in the fourth. Vásquez got six swings and misses on 78 pitches on the afternoon, posting a CSW of 26 percent. He’ll bring a deceptive 3.99 ERA, troublesome 1.47 WHIP and a miserable 35/30 K/BB ratio (58 2/3 innings) into Friday’s showdown against the Brewers in Milwaukee.

McCutchen victimized Padres’ starter Randy Vásquez for a 365-foot (104.7 mph EV) two-run shot after an eight-pitch battle in the third inning, giving the Pirates a 2-1 lead. That would be his only hit on the afternoon. The 38-year-old has done a decent job for the Pirates this season, slashing .264/.368/.402 with five long balls and 18 RBI in 205 plate appearances.

Heaney struck out three batters on the day and didn’t allow a base on balls. He served up a solo homer to Manny Machado in the opening inning and then kept the Padres off the board until the sixth where Jackson Merrill chased him with a run-scoring double. Heaney generated four swings and misses on 87 pitches in the ballgame, posting a CSW of 30 percent. He’ll carry an impressive 3.39 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and a 47/24 K/BB ratio (66 1/3 innings) into Saturday’s matchup against the Phillies.

The 28-year-old hurler will take the place of the injured Luis Garcia (adductor) in the Dodgers’ bullpen. Davis has made three appearances out of the Dodgers’ bullpen this season, posting a 10.13 ERA, 1.88 WHIP and a 3/2 K/BB ratio across 2 2/3 innings. He can continue to be ignored for fantasy purposes.

The 38-year-old hurler has made 26 appearances out of the Dodgers’ bullpen this season, registering a 4.50 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and a 23/15 K/BB ratio across 26 innings of work. No word yet on how long the Dodgers expect him to be sidelined for. Noah Davis was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City in a corresponding move prior to Sunday night’s battle against the Yankees.

The Diamondbacks jumped on Mitchell Parker in the first inning of this one, as Lourdes Gurriel Jr. smacked a run-scoring double and Suárez followed with a mammoth 466-foot (111.7 mph EV) two-run shot that proved to be the difference in the ballgame. It was his only hit in four trips to the plate on the afternoon. On the season, the 33-year-old slugger is now slashing .231/.311/.509 with 16 long balls and 44 RBI.

Gurriel got the Diamondbacks on the board first in this one with an RBI double off of Mitchell Parker in the opening inning. He then rode home on a two-run blast off the bat of Eugenio Suarez. As a team, the Diamondbacks had just three hits in the contest, but that’s all the offense they would need. On the season, the 31-year-old outfielder is now hitting .251/.291/.436 with eight homers, 33 RBI and three stolen bases.
