    Angels released RHP Alex Meyer.
Meyer missed all of last season following labrum surgery on his throwing shoulder and had a setback earlier this offseason. The former top prospect should get another opportunity somewhere, but it’s possible his shoulder is toast.

Nestor Cortes (elbow) threw three scoreless innings for Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.
The left-hander struck out four, walked nobody, and gave up just one hit, which was a bunt single. He threw 25 of his 37 pitches for strikes in what was an extremely efficient outing. Cortes will obviously need a few more starts to build up his pitch count, but the bigger question is where he fits. With Brandon Woodruff coming off the IL on Sunday, the Brewers have six starters in their big league rotation right now, and Logan Henderson is also at Triple-A. That could mean that Cortes is used in a trade if he continues to show good health and form.
How Carpenter's injury impacts Tigers' DH spot
Eric Samulski breaks down the impacts of Kerry Carpenter's injury for the Detroit Tigers, highlighting which players fan can expect to step up and how the team will rotate its DH spot.
  • NYY Center Fielder #78
Yankees OF prospect Spencer Jones went 2-for-3 with two walks, a home run, and two runs scored for Triple-A Scranton Wilkes/Barre on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old has gotten off to a strong start at Triple-A, going 6-for-16 with three home runs and three RBI. He also has seven strikeouts in four games and remains a major swing-and-miss risk after posting an 18.5 percent swinging strike rate at Double-A as a 24-year-old. With no obvious spot in the outfield, you wonder if the Yankees would use this hot streak by Jones to try and move him at the deadline for an infield bat that could help the Yankees this season.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #35
Vince Velasquez threw 5 2/3 shutout innings for Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday.
Velasquez allowed three hits while striking out eight and walking two. He now has a 2.66 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, and 73/38 K/BB ratio in 64 1/3 innings in Triple-A this season. The Guardians haven’t needed much rotation depth this year, but Velasquez is certainly on the radar if they need another starter.
  • CLE 1st Baseman #72
Guardians 1B/OF prospect C.J. Kayfus went 1-for-5 with a home run and three RBI for Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday. The 2023 third-round pick is now up to 11 home runs in his 52 games at Triple-A this season with 36 RBI and a .295/.384/.565 slash line. At this point, he might be forcing the Guardians’ hand to give him a shot against MLB pitching.
  • PIT 2nd Baseman #38
Pirates INF/OF prospect Nick Yorke went 1-for-3 with a walk, a home run, and two RBI for Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday.
Yorke has now homered in two straight games with hits in five straight and seven of his last eight. The 23-year-old hit .279/.347/.372 in June with one home run, 14 RBI, and two steals. The Pirates could move on from veterans like Tommy Pham and Adam Frazier at the deadline, which could finally open up some MLB at-bats for Yorke.
  • BOS Left Fielder #7
Masataka Yoshida (shoulder) has been doing pre-game work at first base during his rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester.
MassLive’s Chris Cotillo reported that the “Red Sox are planning to get Yoshida some ‘light work’ pregame at first base during his rehab assignment.” The team is not switching his position and still views Yoshida as an outfielder or designated hitter. Still, while he’s with Worcester, they are seeing how he responds to the new position to see if it gives him added versatility. Considering Yoshida is just 5'8" and has not played first base before, we would imagine it’s a long shot that he’d get into a game at the position.
  • ARI Relief Pitcher #18
Shelby Miller allowed an unearned run to pick up a loss to the Giants on Wednesday.
The run is unearned because it came in the 10th inning and it was the “zombie” runner who crossed the plate. It came on a sac fly from Andrew Bailey, and he didn’t allow a hit. It’s a loss for Miller — the third of the season — but at least it’s not a blown save and it didn’t hurt his ERA at all. We always look for positives. Miller has provided a good number of them thus far in 2025 to the surprise of most.
  • SF Relief Pitcher #75
Camilo Doval worked two innings and allowed two runs while blowing a save and picking up a win against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.
Doval gave up a two-run homer in the ninth inning to blow his fourth save on the season. The good news is that he worked a scoreless 10th to get the win, but fantasy managers would have preferred he just get the job done an inning earlier. Even after allowing the two runs, Doval has a 3.03 ERA and doesn’t seem likely to be giving up his closing gig just yet.
  • ARI Starting Pitcher #29
Merrill Kelly didn’t pick up a decision after allowing three runs Wednesday over six innings against the Giants on Wednesday.
Kelly gave up two runs in the first, but settled down nicely after while giving up just one more in the fifth. The 36-year-old was not good during Friday’s start against Miami, but he bounced back the way he usually does after a clunker. Kelly will take on the Padres on Monday in what likely be his penultimate start before the All-Star break.
  • SF Relief Pitcher #65
Landen Rupp worked four innings and struck out four while allowing two runs against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.
Roupp had command issues for the majority of the contest, and ended up issuing four free passes. The stuff was decent, the ability to locate it? Not so much. Roupp now has a 3.48 ERA and will look to hit his spots on a more consistent basis against the Phillies on Monday.
