Mets sent RHP Jeff Walters outright to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Walters cleared waivers after being designated for assignment. He holds a 9.27 ERA through 22 1/3 innings this season at Las Vegas this season.

Kyle Finnegan (shoulder) is unlikely to be available for Sunday’s series finale against the Giants.
The Nationals will do their best to stay away from Finnegan in the coming days as he deals with shoulder fatigue. The 33-year-old veteran stopper was able to play catch on Sunday without any issues and appears likely to avoid a trip to the injured list. Jorge López picked up a save on Saturday night in his absence and is the most likely candidate to fill the void. Jose A. Ferrer is the other high-leverage name to know for fantasy purposes in Washington for those desperately chasing saves.
Top prospect Clarke to be called up by Athletics
Following the Atheltics' announcement that they are calling up prized outfield Denzel Clarke, James Schiano discusses what the toolsy prospect with "blazing speed" will bring to the pro level.
  • SF Right Fielder #59
Jerar Encarnacion (hand) is expected to continue his minor league rehab assignment this week at Triple-A Sacramento.
Encarnacion, who is currently playing in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League, is expected to face some higher level minor-league competition this week before potentially rejoining San Francisco’s DH mix. The 27-year-old all-or-nothing slugger has been on the shelf since spring training working his way back from surgery to repair a left hand fracture.
  • ATH 1st Baseman #16
Nick Kurtz (hip) is absent from the lineup for Sunday’s showdown against the Phillies.
Kurtz will sit out Sunday’s series finale after suffering a left hip flexor during Saturday’s extra-inning affair with the Phillies. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. The 22-year-old top prospect has caught fire recently, hitting .280 (7-for-25) with four homers and nine RBI over his last seven games, after an ice-cold stretch to begin his major-league career. It’ll be Logan Davidson making his first-ever start to face Phillies southpaw Jesús Luzardo.

Padres recalled LHP Omar Cruz from Triple-A El Paso.
Cruz has been summoned to fortify San Diego’s bullpen ahead of Sunday’s game against Atlanta. The 26-year-old lefty has made two relief appearances this season in the majors.
  • SD Relief Pitcher #37
Padres optioned RHP Alek Jacob to Triple-A El Paso.
Jacob heads back to the minors after San Diego burned through their bullpen on Saturday after Michael King was scratched for precautionary reasons due to shoulder soreness. The 26-year-old righty holds a lackluster 6.94 ERA across 23 1/3 innings (22 appearances) this season in the majors.
  • MIN Right Fielder #38
Matt Wallner (hamstring) will not travel with the Twins this week for the start of a 10-game road trip.
Wallner will require a few additional rehab contests at Triple-A St. Paul to get back up to speed from a defensive standpoint in right field before returning to Minnesota’s lineup. The 27-year-old slugger figures to make it back at some point later next week, but he’ll continue building up his stamina in the minors for now.
  • MIN Center Fielder #25
Byron Buxton (concussion) remains in concussion protocol.
Buxton, who remains on the concussion injured list, has not been officially cleared by the league to return to Minnesota’s lineup. However, he’s expected to travel with the club this week for the start of a 10-game road trip. Concussions are serious matters and there’s no definitive timetable for his return, but it sounds like he’s feeling better and getting closer to making it back to the Twins’ lineup, which is encouraging news.
  • CHC Catcher #15
Carson Kelly was scratched from Sunday’s lineup with an illness.
Reese McGuire, who was just called up from Triple-A Iowa, will handle the catching duties on Sunday afternoon in his place. Kelly has been an unexpected revelation this season in his Cubs debut and he’ll take on a larger share of the workload in the coming weeks with Miguel Amaya out with an oblique strain.
  • SF Starting Pitcher #35
Justin Verlander (pectoral) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Tuesday.
It’s an encouraging development that Verlander has resumed throwing and will progress to a bullpen session after hitting the injured list earlier this week with pectoral discomfort. The 42-year-old veteran doesn’t appear to be a facing an extended absence and could make it back to San Francisco’s rotation at some point in early June.
  • TOR Center Fielder #5
Daulton Varsho is not in the lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Rays.
It’s a rare day off for Varsho, who has started 18 of a possible 23 games since making his season debut back on April 29. It’ll be Myles Straw taking over in center field on Sunday afternoon.
