He’s now off the 40-man roster. Fields, who the White Sox claimed off waivers back in February, is hitting only .216/.311/.267 at Charlotte this season.

The 27-year-old outfielder appeared in four big league contests with the Twins during the 2024 season, going 2-for-6 (.333) with a pair of RBI. Last season at the Triple-A level he played all four infield positions, right field and even pitched an inning, so he adds plenty of depth and versatility at the Triple-A level for the Mets.

Heyward opened the scoring in the contest with his bases-clearing three-run triple off of Adrian Houser in the second inning. He then trotted home as Elias Diaz singled into center field. He struck out in each of his other two plate appearances in the contest, finishing the night 1-for-3. Heyward is off to a slow start this spring, hitting just .143 (4-for-28) with zero homers and six RBI.

Pivetta allowed just one hit — a third inning single to Jake Burger — while walking a pair of batters. He generated nine swings and misses on 76 pitches in the contest — five of those on his heater — while registering a CSW of 24 percent. Pivetta has alternated terrific and disaster starts so far this preseason, combining for a strong 3.38 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and a 17/7 K/BB ratio across 13 1/3 innings.

Burger was the only expected starter for the Rangers who made the trip in this one, and he contributed one of just six total hits with his two-out single in the third inning. The 28-year-old slugger has had a rough spring overall in his first camp with the Rangers, hitting just .188 (9-for-48) with a pair of homers, six RBI and a stolen base.

On the plus side, Houser did rack up six strikeouts on the evening while allowing only one base on balls. Against what will presumably be the Padres’ Opening Day lineup, Houser gave up four runs in the second inning — keyed by a bases-clearing three-run triple off the bat of Jason Heyward. Houser got 10 swings and misses on 66 pitches on the night, posting a strong CSW of 35 percent. He’ll open the season as additional rotation depth for the Rangers, most likely at the Triple-A level.

Beck drew a walk to leadoff the second inning, then swiped second base and scored on Sam Hilliard’s two-run blast. He then singled in the third inning and again thieved second base before being stranded there. The 23-year-old outfielder then swatted a 420-foot (106.0 mph EV) solo shot off of Dane Dunning in the fifth inning that made it a 5-2 ballgame. With the two-hit attack, Beck is now hitting .235 (12-for-51) with three homers, seven RBI and six stolen bases on the spring.

Márquez walked one and struck out three in the ballgame. The big blow against him came in the opening inning on a two-out, two-run blast by Joc Pederson. The 30-year-old hurler settled in afterwards and kept the Rangers off the board until Corey Seager got him for a solo shot with two outs in the fifth. He now holds a 5.73 ERA, 1.82 WHIP and a 9/7 K/BB ratio over 11 innings through his first four Cactus League starts.

Pederson tagged Rockies’ right-hander German Marquez for a two-run blast in the opening inning that gave the Rangers an early 2-0 edge. The 32-year-old slugger also lined out to left field and drew a walk in the contest, finishing the evening 1-for-2. He’s now hitting .250 (8-for-32) with four homers and 12 RBI in his first spring with the Rangers.

The 25-year-old right-hander allowed six hits on the night while allowing one base on balls. While there was a parade of baserunners against him, the only damage came in the second inning on a two-run blast by Sam Hilliard. Rocker had looked like he would secure a spot in the club’s Opening Day rotation, but that picture is a bit cloudier after they brought in Patrick Corbin earlier in the week. Through four Cactus League starts, the 25-year-old right-hander holds an uninspiring 13.00 ERA, 2.33 WHIP and a 12/6 K/BB ratio across nine innings.

The dynamic 27-year-old infielder got the Yankees on the board in the opening inning with a two-run double off of right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano. He then demolished a three-run homer in the third that extended the Bombers’ lead to 5-1. He’s hitting just .214 (9-for-42) in Grapefruit League action this spring, though that has come with three homers, 11 RBI and a stolen base.
